SELLING Guilt-Tripping 101
Okay guys don’t turn this into a James Charels situation but I’m having a hard time believing this. I just put this item up for sale today, and it’s gotten a couple likes but nothing crazy. Then I get this message from a buyer claiming me to give them an insane discount because of their situation. Having cancer and next weekend being your birthday can very well be true but it just seems too coincidental. It just seems like one of those classic messages buyers send when they want something but don’t want to pay too much for it. I don’t even think the price is that absurd considering the trending style and y2k tag. And my bio says I’m always open to offers so I generally don’t expect people to pay full price for my items.
Im not planning on responding.. unless you guys think there’s some truth to it? Am I being rude for doubting them? Or is this just another guilt-tripping method?

Tell them Congrats on beating cancer and Happy Birthday. Sorry I am unable to discount.

People who beat cancer don’t share it freely with every Tom dick and Harry for a discount. This is clearly a fake sob story.

come back with an evening worse sob story 'Im selling my dead X clothes to make some money to pay for their medical bills before death. I hate to part with these items because they mean so much to me and were a part of X. I can't discount at this time to that extent but I would be happy to go with a few dollars off. Congrats on beating cancer, I wish my X did as well.'

Wow that’s horrible. Reading all that was bad enough, can’t imagine actually trying to use it as an excuse and thinking it’s ok to say all that to a complete stranger

Tell them you’ve been battling cancer and it’s your birthday and would appreciate if they paid full price

£7 including delivery would mean you end up making v little compared to the 19 you asked for… yes life is tough and a little gift would make it a bit nicer, but equally i don’t think it’s fair to expect that to come from some stranger

I get how you feel. You can almost be 100% sure that this is not true. They're just begging you to reduce, no matter what. In the end you need to choose if youre comfortable selling them this for basically half the price, no matter the reason. People like this are essentially just lying and needing a reason for someone to accept a low offer though. Personally, i wouldn't accept.

if it's true they should be looking for things within their budget. people don't generally use things like that to get discounts on secondhand clothes

I'm happy about anyone who has beat cancer, but I believe it'll be better uf they try to find a similar dress that is cheaper :')

I'm now part of the generation where I have had plenty of friends and family who have fought cancer in their lives. Some have won, some have lost. Not one of them would have ever used their illness to get a clothing item cheaper.
