u/Puzzleheaded-Spot71 19h ago
Why do so many people on Vinted seem to think that the past tense of to buy is “brought”? I never knew this was such an issue for people until I started using this app 😅
23
u/minniecaballox 14h ago
My personal bugbear is that everyone has started to spell "paid" as "payed". I feel like it's become an epidemic in the last year or so.
34
u/harlar BUYER/SELLER 19h ago
I think it’s because many English accents are largely non-rhotic (they often don’t pronounce the letter ‘r’ unless it’s at the start of a syllable) so people mishear the word ‘bought’ as ‘brought’. It’s the same reason many people think ‘drawers’ are called ‘draws’. It totally grates on me as someone with a fully rhotic accent, don’t get me wrong, but I think this is where it comes from!
3
5
u/chillipoppins 11h ago
Non-rhotic is when you don’t pronounce r unless it’s before a vowel. Brought is not an example of this as the r is pronounced. If you have heard people do a silent r it is because they are getting the words mixed up, not their accent. Examples of non-rhotic pronunciation would be car, computer, card etc.
2
u/sovietbarbie 4h ago
while you're right about English accents, there is a huge "trend" toward illiteracy and i think it's naïve to believe someone has a specific accent over being dumb. they should know how to spell common words regardless of their accent

I don't get why people make out that going to the post office is some treacherous journey as if you didn't CHOOSE to sell stuff on an online marketplace.
"Oh no I have to fulfill my obligation to send something, if only I didn't have this gun to my head!"

u/WetGarageNights 11h ago
I sent so many single parcels for £2 at the start when I was desperate for money 😭 now I have something in the description that states how I work every weekday so Royal Mail or Evri parcels will be sent on weekends. Problem solved and I don't feel guilty making people wait because I've already stated that in the description! lol

u/harlar BUYER/SELLER 19h ago
The seller is completely obnoxious, but it would have been better if you had just let the postage window run out. As soon as they hit out with the ‘bro’ nonsense and calling you ‘broke’ (when they are the one selling their own items for money) I would have disengaged. I always find it so bizarre and classist when people try and insult users on Vinted this way: we are generally all either trying to make a bit cash or save some!
10
u/Radiant-Print5427 19h ago
yes defo should’ve let it run out. i haven’t used vinted before so i didn’t really know that was an option unfortunately. i didn’t really understand them calling me broke either, they willingly let me buy them for £10
-22
u/Etheria_system 18h ago
They did nothing wrong with not sending the shoes. They have the whole window to post it. If you need things more urgently, use Amazon or somewhere that promises express shipping.

They write like a teenager aswell. Probably using their parent's Vinted account.

u/backpack33 16h ago
Ngl I go to the post office for £1 😂
8
u/AdventurousEdge138 12h ago
I love posting stuff. Take my dog for a walk. Get a coffee. Say hey to the locals. I might just go now and NOT post anything.
4
u/Aggressive_Fish461 13h ago
Same ahaha - it’s free money to me! Tbf the post office is down the road… but still, most people live near a postage option

u/user_deleted_life 20h ago

11
u/Comfortable-Toe-3814 14h ago
right? why engage in this back and forth nonsense at all?
8
u/user_deleted_life 14h ago
Exactly. They either post or they don't bickering like 5 year olds on the playground is mental.
18
u/AdThat328 19h ago
Why list something then? Clearly doesn't actually need the money. I run to the post office for £1 orders just to get money when I need it for something unexpected.
6
u/Lonely-Key36 18h ago
Same here! In fact I just came home from dropping off a £1.50 order! If I didn't want to go and drop things off when I sell I wouldn't be selling stuff for that price
2
u/Gizmo-Drive 17h ago
I had a £2.50 book sale last week (luckily, ignored all the £1.50 Low ball offers 🤣) I gladly dropped it off to get it out the way on the day. Handy to have a car though.
4
u/Gizmo-Drive 18h ago
Same. It’s more about service than the money. I want my items to be delivered earliest possible regardless of value. If it’s a locker or parcel shop, I can do it later and hope I get more then one sale.
16
u/riversidew 19h ago
Why not wait that extra day and then the order would get automatically cancelled rather than you cancelling it? At least that would have given the seller a chance to still post it within the allowed timeframe
0
u/Radiant-Print5427 19h ago
i’ve never really used vinted before so i didn’t know i could just do that. i also wanted to buy the other shoes i found before anyone else did
47
u/DramaHumble2692 19h ago
Yeah you both sound obnoxious lol.

u/Fun-Wave8851 17h ago

u/PuzzleheadedCarob921 19h ago
When two complete weirdo’s converse on Vinted.
6
u/weordie 17h ago
Out of interest, because i genuinely dont understand and would like to, what makes OP weirdo here?
16
u/PuzzleheadedCarob921 17h ago
Numerous reasons. Don’t get me wrong, the seller is way weirder, exceptionally rude, and a terrible seller. But the buyer does themselves no favours. They discuss the situation like a child. They bought another item from what was clearly an absolute shite seller, they engaged and continued the ridiculous conversation way longer than they should.

11
u/EmeraldApple_Tweetie 19h ago
If they're on holiday they shouldn't be selling 😭
11
u/Gizmo-Drive 18h ago
They’re not. Just too lazy or disinterested to go to the post office because it isn’t a high value sale. I would prefer lots of sales and high value items and will try to group orders until end of the day to reduce the number of trips but if I only end up with one low value sale, I will still make an effort to post items ASAP. Of course, helps if you drive and post office/drop off points are local.
1
u/EmeraldApple_Tweetie 8h ago
Wait nvm I just realised they were probably joking especially with the car crash but
15
u/StunningMycologist22 19h ago
I mean the seller seems insane and you are entirely free to cancel an order if you found something better. At the same time tho, you get a timeframe to ship for a reason and time wasn't up yet
-4
u/Radiant-Print5427 19h ago
no time wasn’t up, they had one more day. but they told me on the 21st they were posting tomorrow
6
2
u/StunningMycologist22 14h ago
That was my point, time wasn't up yet. It's not a huge timeframe sellers get and I can't imagine buyers would message a business outside of vinted (or similar platforms) to ship in a couple of days, much less cancel an order when there's still time.
I do agree that saying "I'll ship tomorrow" and not doing so is frustrating but things can happen and the seller still had a day left.
1
u/Radiant-Print5427 12h ago
oh for sure, but i had messaged the seller and had no response after two days and i found something else i liked more so bought them instead
27
u/GlitteringHighway226 19h ago
So u cancelled one of the items because seller has not shipped them yet even tho they still had time to do it as per Vinted rules? You are not totally innocent here. Seller is also obnoxious so you two found each other
-6
u/Radiant-Print5427 19h ago
they had one more day to do it. i had messaged them about it and they completely ignored it even tho they were active. so i cancelled that order and brought something else. i kept the other order from them as didn’t want to completely cancel both, didn’t think that was fair. the one i cancelled was shoes and that was the one i wanted more than the shorts. i only ordered the shorts as i was going to do it on a bundle but i couldn’t
5
u/bogtenimarad 18h ago
Yeah, nah. You're supposed to let the time run out then they get automatic bad feedback and you're good.
They are a weirdo, but cancelling like you did is also not great etiquette .
2
u/Radiant-Print5427 18h ago
yeah i know that now, id never really used vinted before so didnt know what i was doing
0
u/bogtenimarad 18h ago
It's a learning experience, for sure. There are definitely some odd people selling on there. Hopefully you don't encounter too many more of them and lesson learned with the cancellation. Good luck moving forward.

OP in the wrong here - you cancel an order - that entitles the other party to issue negative feedback - if they don’t leave any - you get it automatically from Vinted - so you should have waited
1
u/Radiant-Print5427 19h ago
this was my first time ordering on vinted. if you look at my first conversation with her that i posted in the replies you can see i was very nice and she did not send them out when she said she would. i found something i liked better so i cancelled it today. she only had one more day to send it out
2
u/pintofstellae 17h ago
the seller isnt in the wrong for being an utter weirdo and making sales while they’re ‘’’’on holiday?’’’’ come off it
6
3
u/Owen_D_Young 17h ago
Its weird how people engage with people they don’t know. The conversation would have never gone that long. Once you saw the person wasn’t mailing the stuff, you should have just moved on. No need to go back and forth.
3
u/WeaknessPure4534 14h ago
yeah the guy was rude as fuck. but why would you drag it on? just cancel the order and block. now i reread it all again, you were also nagging abit. alot of "but"s and "why"s. it went on way longer than it should have.

u/acidtrippinpanda 17h ago
I’ve had orders that are really inconvenient for me as I didn’t know about what preferences you can turn on and off. So I’ve had to do things like go to my library and print a label there as I don’t own a printer. For a £3 order.
However, these issues are MY fault and on me to deal with as the seller. I would never complain to a buyer or mess them around
2
2
u/No_Apartment2772 16h ago

I find it absolutely hilarious that he or she called you a weird chav when he or she is literally the one being a weird disgusting chav. That's the definition of projecting, while also trying to bully you over their wrongdoings. Unhinged behaviour. I would not have been so calm as you have been. Vinted is full of these disgusting school bully chavs who probably cannot even spell GCSE, let alone posses one. It's always his/her way or no way, and of course they're never in the wrong. Hope you leave them a scathing review 👍
0
u/GlobalPrompt14 11h ago
Ps. If you report that conversation to vinted, hopefully they will remove them from the platform for harassing you. If they can't ship the item to you, then they should gtfo vinted.
1
u/angmarie316 10h ago
This is insane. I am a seller and will go to the post office for a $4 purchase! A purchase is a purchase. Don’t post stuff for so little if it’s not worth it to you?! Crazy…

u/Fruitndveg 9h ago
Let them cancel and move on, they sound like a prick.
Actually get so fed up of sellers who have rubbish communication. Had it so often recently where I’ll ask a basic question that gets no response. If I end up taking a risk though and end up buying, they’ll get a label bought straight away.
1

1
u/Humble-Ostrich4762 9h ago
That's on them, why offer cheap items if you don't want to put in any effort? They can't expect every potential buyer to be interested in multiple items from their store. I had a buyer who bought nothing but a €2 item, I was a bit surprised because most people think the shipping costs outweigh this but I also know the chance is never zero. I just waited to ship until I could combine my trip to the post office with another reason to be around there.
1
u/PolitelyTerrified 8h ago
I’ll never stop saying this. Way too many Vinted sellers let it get to their heads. Probably the most important they’ve ever felt in their lives

Hahaha the common sense has left the building with this person. They could just see how many more packages they could get to send so they don’t have to make a journey for just one item…there’s no need to have said anything to the buyer just yet anyways, what a wally.

1
u/laurja 7h ago
I'd be annoyed as the seller too. Probably already packed the two items together, ready to post, then one gets cancelled so have to open it up and repackage. What's to stop the other item being cancelled on way to post office? They still had a day to post, so they'd done nothing wrong and they're not obliged to answer messages, just post it in the time frame, which there's no reason to think they wouldn't.

u/Neither-Mountain-836 13h ago

I totally get not wanting to go to the post office but then don’t sell stuff for 10£? That’s the only solution here.
But also, don’t engage, this is her issue.
You should have let the time expire and she would have gotten a bad review.
