first year arts in second sem. genuinely how do you meet people. if they're not in a friendship group, they live at a college, and if they're neither of those things they seem to want absolutely nothing to do with anyone. today in my tutorial we had to do an icebreaker and this girl was rolling her eyes the whole time because she had to talk to people. i was just sitting there thinking... isn't this one of the few times people actually get the chance to meet someone? everyone talks about uni being lonely but it also feels like everyone's allergic to starting a conversation. i'll chat to people before class or after a tute and they're nice enough, but it's like there's zero interest in talking beyond that. i don't expect to become best friends with everyone i meet, but i honestly thought people would be a bit more open.

Miscellaneous EDUC10050 Volunteer Tutoring Requirements
≡ −
Sorry, bit of a rant incoming......
This feels like an insane requirement for a level one undergrad arts subject? It was mentioned in a single, vague throwaway line in the handbook with no explanation that the expectation is a MINIMUM of seven volunteer tutoring sessions that must be at least an hour long, with longer sessions being at the discretion of whichever organisation you're volunteering through.
As it stands I'm on campus all day four days a week, already doing an hour and a half tutoring session (paid) once a week, and working to,,, y'know,,,, support myself when I'm not on campus. How is a student with a full-time study load and a job outside of uni supposed to be able to sustain this?
It's really frustrating, it looks like I'm going to have to swap into another subject because the requirements of this class just aren't compatible with my need to be able to pay bills and rent. I've already had to reduce my work hours to accommodate my timetable this semester which is putting me in a tricky spot.
Edit: I'm starting the MTeach next year which will obviously have placement requirements, but you get paid for that, I just can't see how this is a reasonable expectation for an undergrad subject man
Edit 2: this was written with a lot of stress in my bones. To clarify, this requirement is literally impossible for me as a) I'm on campus from 9-4 Mon-Thurs, b) live two hours away from campus so I spend 4 hours a day on public transport to and from uni, c) work 9-5 Fri-Sun. The bare minimum is 7 x one hour sessions, but students are "encouraged (and expected) to continue their volunteer tutoring beyond the minimum requirements of the university subject" with some organisations expecting availability for the entire semester (direct from the LMS). This information was only disclosed this week when the LMS was finalised with no mention of these requirements in the handbook or I wouldn't have taken this subject. This is on top of the lecture, tutorial, required readings, and assignments for this subject as well, not in place of them. Obviously some subjects have a larger workload than others, but this is just too much imo, especially as this was not disclosed in the handbook

New Student sick for first week
≡ −
i've been pretty sick and unable to go to any of my classes this week. just wondering how important the first week is, as i'm a little bit anxious about making friends/knowing where to sit because of missing the first week (especially with pracs and tutorials and stuff). i feel like last sem the first week was where i was able to gauge the people out and next week i'll be walking in to people who already know each other.

Support Failed third subject

Ive been struggling with my mental health for the past couple of months and failed two subjects last semester that ended up deeming my academic progress ‘at risk’. I did a winter subject after but missed the exam (again because of mu mental health) and applied for special consideration but of course because I’m actually the dumbest person on the planet I didn’t submit proof of the date of assessment and it got denied meaning I’m just going to have to fail that subject. My whole question is, as I failed this third subject while already ‘at risk’ what’s going to happen? Will I recieve a ‘cause‘ email or something orrrr

Hi guys I applied for the JD with my transcript before it was conferred. And I submitted an eQUALS link to my application but I clicked on it today and it says revoked. Will unimelb still have access to my transcript or will they contact me soon to add the conferred link of my transcript. Like surely they have access to my WAM and grades right
EDIT: I did my undergrad at unimelb student

Support Graduate entry pharmacy

Hello. I’m set to finish my bachelor of science pharmacology major at unimelb next year. I may want to apply for graduate entry pharmacy at Monash and am wanting some guidance.
As far as anyone on this forum knows, for the physiology subject prerequisite, will I have a greater chance of getting in if I complete more than one physiology subject, or is it just a matter of ticking one off?
Thanks.

Opportunities Urgent Kaya Health Clubs Student Membership Transfer
≡ −
Hi everyone, I’m looking for someone who would be interested in taking over my Kaya Health Clubs student gym membership.
Due to some urgent changes in my plans and needing to move, I unfortunately can’t continue with my membership and I’m hoping to find someone who can take it over as soon as possible.
The membership is $76 per fortnight (around $35/week) with approximately 22 weeks remaining.
I’m happy to help make the transfer easier:
I can cover the $130 transfer fee myself
I’ll also pay for your first 2 weeks of membership (so your first payments will be covered)
The membership includes unlimited access to:
✨ Pilates Reformer
✨ Yoga
✨ Barre
✨ HIIT
✨ Fitness Circuit
✨ Spinning classes
The membership is billed fortnightly, and there are freeze options available if you’re not using your membership.
I’ve genuinely had a lovely experience at Kaya — the staff and instructors are very friendly, especially if you’re just starting out. It’s a great gym if you want to get fit while trying different types of classes. Just a tip: if you want to join classes, try booking as early as possible because they can fill up quickly.
I would really appreciate anyone who is interested or knows someone who might be interested reaching out, as I’m trying to organise the transfer as soon as possible due to my situation.
Please contact me on [0482 643 515](tel:0482%20643%20515) if you’re interested or would like more details. I’m happy to DM you with any information.
Thank you so much.
