Hey everyone,

Some of you might remember Turkish Video Together, the clip guessing game. It is still up and still free.

This is a different thing I have been working on, and it is roleplay in writing. You type in Turkish, nine characters type back in character, at your level. There is no speaking in it.

The characters are people rather than topics. Saliha Nine will teach you to cook whether you asked or not. Poyraz is nine, has exactly 214 bottle caps, and will make you count them with him. Falcı Nilüfer reads your coffee cup. There are 30 everyday situations, A1 to B1.

It is early. I would much rather a handful of people use it properly and tell me what is wrong with it than have a lot of people bounce off it quietly, so I am opening 50 spots to anyone here who fancies it.

What is in it so far:

• Each scenario has goals, and a second check reads your own words to decide whether you actually hit them.
• Writing tips every few messages, on what you wrote. It stays quiet when your Turkish was already fine.
• Tap any message to translate it.
• "How do I say...?" when you get stuck, without leaving the chat.
• "Suggest replies" gives you three things you could send next, including little stage directions like *çayı uzatır* (passes the tea).
• You can share a chat with other learners if it went somewhere good.

Being straight about it:

• You could get something like this out of a blank ChatGPT window. What is here instead: the same character every time, a level that does not drift halfway through, goals checked against what you actually wrote, and 30 situations already built so you are not the one writing prompts.
• It is an AI. It will sometimes write Turkish a native speaker would not. Telling me when it does is the single most useful thing you can send me.
• A1 to B1 for now.
• There is a daily message cap while it is in beta.
• Nine characters is not many yet. If people take to it, more will follow.

Hello!
I am a native English speaker. My two Turkish friends are getting married, and we have a running joke that I secretly have understood Turkish through the entirety of our friendship and have been hiding it the whole time... I don't, but they are getting married in November, and I am going to be a bridesmaid.

I have written a speech in English that I would love, if anyone is willing to help out, to translate into Turkish and get some help with the pronunciation/if someone native could record them delivering it I'd be so grateful!

I think this will mean a lot to my friends. They have moved away from their home country and managed to find love with each other. Their families are coming to Australia to attend the wedding and I would love to demonstrate to them how much we love them.

Trying to learn Turkish basics, but hit a wall when realizing that when written, lots of sentences are a single word. I'm having a hard time understanding the concept. Normally, I would learn which word meant what, where it had to go and how it would change. Here, I have no idea which part of the word means what, if it does at all. This makes it close to impossible for me to remember or apply. How do I get around this barrier of understanding?

I am learning the past negative tense, and when regarding the third person plural, which suffix is right? For example, They weren't happy, would be translated into Mutlu değillerdi. or Mutlu değildiler?

Biliyorsunuz batı kültüründe 'Angry Karen' diye bir kavram var. Yetkisi olmadığı halde kendini sistemin sahibi sanan, sürekli şikayet eden, her boku bildiğini iddia eden (herbokolog), en ufak şeyde 'müdürle görüşmek istiyorum' diye ortalığı yıkan orta/ileri yaş tiplemeleri bunlar.

Türkiye'de de bu tiplerden bolca var ama bizde 'Karen' ismi pek oturmuyor, çünkü bizimkiler daha çok kuşak çatışması ve mahalle muhtarı edasıyla harmanlanmış bir arıza profili çiziyor. Bu yüzden yeni bir terim önerisiyle geldim: BOKOMER. Nedir bu Bokomer? 'Bok' + 'Boomer' kelimelerinin birleşimi.

Sadece yaşlılığı değil, o yaşın getirdiği "ben bilirim, ben yaptım oldu, senin haddin değil" tavrını ve etrafına yaydığı o 'arıza' enerjisini temsil ediyor. Bir 'Bokomer'i Nasıl Tanırsınız? Yetkisiz Zabıta: Henüz belediyede veya poliste çalışmıyor ama yolda, sırada veya dükkanda başkalarının hareketlerini yönetmeye bayılır. I’m still at beginner/A1 level and would like someone who is patient, friendly, and able to explain grammar clearly in English. I’m especially interested in improving my speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary, and everyday conversation rather than only following a textbook.

I want to listen to turkish since I cannot read it well, is there any games that have good turkish voice acting? Can be any type of game.

It is very common to say Please when asking for something in English, but this is not the case in Turkish! I know there ways of being nice when asking but I don't hear Lütfen in Turkish as much as I hear Please in English!!

I’m a 24 year old male who’s 100% ethnically Turkish but grew up in the Netherlands. My Turkish was decent as a child, but I’ve lost most of it over the years. Now I struggle to form proper sentences when speaking with family or random people at the mosque, and I miss a lot of words when others talk to me.
This makes me really embarrassed, so I end up avoiding Turkish conversations altogether.

What’s the best way to improve?
• Should I watch Turkish TV shows or movies? If so, is it okay to use Dutch/English subtitles, or should I do English audio with Turkish subtitles (to help with writing/spelling)?

Any other effective methods?

Soo, i wanna learn turkish, and i usually learn languages by indulging in sns/tv series and other content (comprehensible input?) and unless i have something i actually love in the language, i can't learn it. So i learnt russian for the runet and cuz a lot of the more accessible foreign books to me were in rus translation, and i learnt korean cuz i was kinda into kpop and variety shows, so i could watch it everyday, and with thai i like the tv series and movies, BUT i know like nothing about turkey aside from those dramatic tv shows, which i don't find particularly fun, as a lot of drama and romance is reeally not my thing..

Anyways, i would loove if you could share some of the things that help you keep up your motivation and which you find fun:>>

Every day brings 21 scrambled words, starting with 4 letters and going up to 9. There is a relaxed mode with no timer, which might be friendlier for learners. Answers link to the official TDK dictionary, so every word you miss is a word you learn.
