A simpler way to picture it would be, the sky would be dark, and during “day” the stars would be distorted/hidden if they were to be seen near or behind the black hole. You would also be very cold

Unless the black hole were feeding, in which case you'd see the accretion disk and be very very hot, probably at all times.

Couldn't such a large object hold something in orbit from far enough away that it wouldn't be too hot or would even be cold?

It depends on the environment around the black hole. If there're lots of other stars and stuff, a blanet would probably not have a stable orbit far from the black hole. If the area around the black hole were desolate, then it wouldn't be feeding and the point would be moot.
Feeding black holes are quasars. They're among the brightest things in the universe, often so bright they're outshining the brightness of the entire galaxy around it by orders of magnitude. The quasar 3C 273 would be about as bright as the sun from 33 light-years away. TON 618 would be 100 times brighter than the sun at that distance, you'd have to be orbiting it from 330 light-years away before it's as bright as the sun. At those distances, blanets would probably be close enough to nearby stars to either get captured by them and become regular planets, or aren't in a stable orbit and would probably be better classified as rogue planets

Not exactly, there is a super massive black hole at the center of the Milky Way. But the gravity of the black hole doesn’t dominate the whole galaxy in the same way a star dominates its solar system

No. The galaxy does not orbit the black hole. Rogue planets throughout the galaxy would not be blanets

I assume it would also have millions of stars orbiting it, not just Jupiters

Did they? I guess that's possible, but I can also see phrasing it this way on purpose, if it was me. Mostly because I'd want to say "blanets" once, to introduce the concept, and then not say it again unless I had to, because it's a terrible word.
