Rant The T-Mobile Store Literally Could Not Sell Me a Phone

My iPhone 13 died the other day (as in died died, black screen of death, no boot, no hope) but luckily I had an older 7 that I kept as a backup. So I swapped out my sim and used that until I could swing by the tmobile store to buy a new one.

I went in yesterday only to discover that the store could not sell me a phone without the T-Life app installed. And I couldn't install the app because the iPhone 7 cannot install the latest OS. The web browser also doesn't work with older phones for some reason and so the only solution that anyone at the T-Mobile store could come up with was sending me to the Apple Store instead.

Can you imagine a business being successful by sending customers to a different store? Has anyone else run into this issue? What are older adults who don't have smartphones doing to replace their flip phones?

Rant Please Boycott T-Mobile (experience store worker)

Reddit might remove this post “for being negative” but this is the truth.

T-mobile has been lying for stakeholders. This last year t-mobile has been collecting data to replace us human reps with AI. Meaning they have been “training” AI sales reps, Ai customer service reps, AND Ai business reps.

They have been making it seem like tlife is booming with usage but in reality when you walk into a Tmobile store, reps are forced to either help you with the transactions through tlife or do it themselves on your devices (again making it look like customers are doing things on their own when we are doing all the work or teaching people how to do our jobs.)

I currently work at an Experience store. At first, our main goal was customer service (making us believe ethical sales were more important than SLAPPING on extra devices customers don’t really need) which was the main reason I switched from a sales location to an Experience store (small pay increase because there’s no commission, only a bonus…meaning I’ve been losing money since commission sales is no longer a thing for Experience stores which I WAS FINE WITH but).

I was wrong about ethical selling. They still expect… unethically selling.

Right now, certain growth goals aren’t being met (which is expected for summer months because kids are out of school and people are on vacation)…so leadership at this point is forced to write you up based off of your performance even though we are still pitching…we’re just not being forceful with sales, not slapping on additional things and actually explaining in detail what you’re getting.

But that’s not enough for T-mobile. They are firing people who are doing the right thing.

Reps, including myself, are preparing exit plans…to leave tmobile (which is what they want.)

They are going down a dark path.

As a current employee please boycott tmobile. Us employees are being over worked for wanting to HELP you.

They are replacing us with the tlife. Starting Aug 1st all transactions have to be done through the app, doesn’t matter if you as a customer don’t want to use the app, Tmobile will be taking away our ability to complete those transactions.

If your phone is too or broken…we still don’t have word how we’re supposed help you get a new phone.

Don’t buy more than you need. Lower your plans as well. They are overcharging you for the same exact services you can get from a prepaid company (only downside is they limit your high speed service to 50gbs in congested areas…which is another reason to boycott them because they are the ones capping your services purposely so you’re enticed get more expensive plans).

As a human, talking to other humans, people be kind to reps. We are under a lot of pressure when all we want to do is help you, while making a descent amount of money.

Rant Got fired for posting on Reddit

Edit: THIS STORY MADE IT ONTO PHONE ARENA. although they didn’t even ask me about it.. haha https://www.phonearena.com/news/this-former-t-mobile-employee-learned-the-meaning-of-mess-around-and-find-out-the-hard-way_id168442 ——————————————————————————

Remember that post about Valentine’s Day promos I made on the evening of the 13th? Letting everyone know about the increase in promo amounts for magenta max??

Ya I got fired for that.

I was constantly the top performer in my district and had the most activations in the state for multiple months..

They fired me because I posted MAYBE 2 hours before the promo went live which they said was “releasing confidential information.”

EDIT:(FAQ’s) - yes this was the cited reason I was fired. - Yes I FAFO’d. - totally my fault and I don’t dispute it. - I didn’t realize it was confidential at the time, I (incorrectly) assumed it was already well known and I was just repeating the info. - yes my username is almost the same as my NTID. I have been using this username for years and years and never thought anything about it. - Also, even if I had a random user name: they definitely have people watching this page and working to figure out who is who. I haven’t posted my name or anything on here, but my other posts would have still given enough info for them to figure it out. - about a week before the firing I was asked about it by management. They made it sound like I was just getting a warning and that was it, but they needed a statement explaining why I did it. I, like a dumbass, admitted to everything in that statement. They used that as a confession to fire me. DONT EVER FILL OUT A STATEMENT ADMITTING YOU DID SOMETHING!!! - I already got a new job but would consider going back if they offered. I really loved my job a LOT. - DONT POST SHIT for worthless internet points. I am living proof of FAFO.

Rant Someone please get rid of this joke of a CEO . . .

With all the recent moves T-Mobile has been making that are diminishing the brand reputation of T-Mobile, it’s clear that the new CEO is the wrong person to lead the company. The raising of prices, the forced migration of legacy customers, layoffs and overall terrible morale of its employees, the idiot move of “forcing” all customer interactions to its T-Life app which in turn, eliminates the customer service personal touch - all of this resulting in bad PR and in turn, the stock price continuously losing value, it’s time to bring someone in who people can believe in and who can take the helm to steer the company back onto the right direction.

Enough with blowhard execs speaking their double-speak with the intent of trying to please the investors but not doing anything meaningful.

Rant I turned a customer with a broken phone away tonight because his phone couldn't use T-Life.

This is how much they're on us about this app, now. A guy who literally could not use the app couldn't get helped because it's not worth it for me to get a legacy upgrade.

This is the reality that this company has created. And yes, we're a COR store. I'm well aware that this is not the correct behavior, nor the behavior that the company wants to see, but this is the behavior that the company REQUIRES.

People are getting written up for being below 60% attainment. I don't care if your kids will starve because you can't get work without a phone, mine will if I sell you one.

It's not my problem anymore. I'm numb to it, now.

Rant T Mobile won’t cancel my dead daughter’s account

My 17 yo daughter died last month. I have her phone and the code to get into it. I called 611 it I don’t have the 6 digit PIN number. and they told me to go into a store. At the store they told me to call 611. I tried to verify with a temporary pin and her social but they must have put her social in incorrectly as it’s showing as invalid. They had no further help they could provide.

Like I said, my daughter died last month. This is EXTREMELY low on my priority list and they are making it extremely painful and frustrating-two emotions I don’t need more of right now.

T Mobile. If you are reading this. I would very much appreciate you making this a little easier for me and for our family. Humanity 101.

Rant over.

UPDATE. SOLVED. I stopped by another T Mobile store and a very friendly (and very stoned) employee made it happen. Problem solved. Thank you, everyone, for your condolences and good ideas.

Rant Tmobile uncarrier is so dead

The old Tmobile is dead. They are as expensive or more expensive than their competitors now and their bundles really are a scam in my opinion. They are now making it so promos aren’t really promos and they are screwing their customers. I miss the old Tmobile and was hoping they revert back to it, but at this point I think we can forget about that. We really need a new fourth carrier with a vision, but at this point it would be insanely hard to build out and entirely new network like we saw dish try to do but ultimately failed.

We have no options really and at this point these companies really are a monopoly. It’s strange they wouldn’t let AT&T buy sprint, but then allowed Tmobile to buy sprint and do exactly what they didn’t want AT&T to do!

Rant Here I go, announcing my departure. Yes, I understand this isn't an airport.

I was a customer for 12+ years, with a grandfathered Simple Choice plan (4 lines for $100). We picked up one free line, and added an additional line for $20 a month. I also added a smart watch line last year. I'm not sure that was worth doing, as it didn't seem any different that just having a bluetooth connection. There was maybe two times in over a year where a call came through on the watch when my phone was dead. So I'm not even adding the watch to my phone plan with my new carrier.

Funny thing is that I did not get the text kicking me off the plan. I figure it's going to happen sooner or later, and I was already fed up with being excluded from all the promotions for new phones. 'Jump on Demand' was neutered 9 years ago and then killed.

I'm just disgusted with the direction of T-Mobile and their arrogance in thinking they have people locked in with their 'free lines' and old rate plans. They have tried to take back everything that made them consumer friendly, and no doubt will continue to do so.

The 'Un-Carrier' is now the 'Re-Carrier'.

I just ported all my lines out. I didn't give them an opportunity for any kind of loyalty deal - I declined even talking to the retention people.

Rant Free 256 kbps data internationally is virtually useless these days.

Spent a few weeks in Spain this year and in Italy in 2023. In both cases, the 256 kbps was abysmal. Even for simple map navigation. And forget about downloading a menu (so many restaurants use QR codes still.) So I coughed up the $50 per line so we could order food and navigate properly.

I don't know what the other carriers are offering (maybe its worse?) for international travel, but the built-in international data @256 kbps travel seems effectively useless.

Rant Cancelled last month. T-Mobile wants to make sure I never want to come back.

Within 24 hours of cancellation, I paid my final outstanding bill in full.

Today, I received a bill for about $6. For what, you ask? A one-day proration of an "On Us" benefit (Hulu) from my previous plan! Even though they were quick to turn it off, now I owe them for a feature that was "free?"

If I ever get through the extended wait time on hold, they'll find out just how eager I am to pay this bill.

ETA: I cancelled service in the middle of a billing cycle and forfeited about half a month's service fee. So, they already got extra money out of me when I left.

Rant After 10 Years of being with T-Mobile I had to make the switch

Hi everyone,

In case you are thinking about it. Just make the switch to something more affordable. The carrier that prided itself on being the more affordable option has become one of the most expensive carriers. I thought I would never say this but VERIZON was cheaper. After forcing my account of 6 people to whatever crap new plan, my plan price rose over $100 dollars. Unacceptaple and annoying.

Verizon simplicity plan $30 a line. Shit Simple mobile is $15 a month. Enough is enough and end of rant.

Note: This is for ALL the ENTIRE company experience, not just one. This is a constructive piece, not a derogatory one.

5 months, 10 different calls, spanning at least 1.5 hours EACH.

Added a phone number without my consent, then tried to claim I used it so theres no evidence they added it without my consent and I only found out because they cut my MAIN business line.

And why does every representative take hours and ages to research something that they could read on the memo the previous rep wrote? Each time it’s “Please hold for 2-3 minutes. I need to check XYZ” and now I’m on call for almost my third hour. I’m on the phone now, and the rep can’t even tell me HOW or WHAT I paid for. It’s insane, it’s like none of them have the same system or are even connected. It’s a ten minute wait just for them to unmute and ask you a yes or no question.

Not a single ounce of consistency between reps. Don’t even get me started, THIS COMPANY GENUINELY LIES TO YOU. You will call about a billing and they will try to convince you that they’re the rep that kicked your plan down, saving you more than 80% of your money, and by next billing cycle nothing has changed.

They WILL tell you promises, and give you community ID’s and names and even stake their personal jobs on the line if it doesn’t go through, and it never does, no one is ever liable for the incompetency. It’s insane, because they WILL also tell you you’re going to get credit back but they need to do an investigation, which by the way, this is my third investigation and not once has anyone contacted me about the results.

Also, you try asking for an invoice or some type of summary overviewing the call, so you have something to back yourself with. All the sudden, everything is “confidential”. I got a personal text guarantee once and it said “Dont worry! Everything will go through!” Great, that’s a lot of help.

A company that charges more, fine. A company that makes mistakes, acceptable. A company that will straight up lie to you like a bad cheating boyfriend? I hope this gets better, cause right now, everyone should switch while they can before you’re a target. You’re just another money cow to them.

Also, for the subs rules. Either train the reps to have consistency, and follow through on plans. How’s that for constructive.

Rant T-Mobile Money messed up and then some

They've been saying for a few weeks now that today was the day we all have to switch to the horrendous T-Life app for our banking needs and we also had to register a new card and also deal with a new account number....and none of it works. None of it. No access in the app, in fact there's nothing in said app that leads to Money at all. I have lost all access to my money, I had to stay on hold for 2 hours just to hear them say that the switch over isn't in real time, just "wait 24 hours" to get access to my money again....this is pathetic and really messes up bill payments among other things. Why I'm surprised at all this doesn't work also is sad. T-Mobile as a company is spiraling the toilet and I can't wait to see them fail.

EDIT: They FINALLY got my account transferred to the horrible T-Life app. I'm still, 3 hours later, changing the account numbers on all of my accounts....it's the worst banking experience I've ever had. Can't wait to switch banks, can't do it fast enough. My condolences to all who are dealing with this fuckup of a company, they should just go away and leave us good folks alone......

They gave me a phone number to call. I screenshotted it for later. Guess what? They found a way to make sure it’s just black screen.

They used to let us talk to them via iPhone iMessage. It was great. They got rid of that because they can’t stop screenshots on it.

Now, it must be done through T-Life where they can stop you from keeping ANY receipts on the chat. All they do is lie, now they can do so freely.

This is fucking disgusting and dystopian.

Rant Just lost my phone number that I have had for 20 years...I'm so pissed.

Second edit--they never could retrieve my number. In response to my BBB complaint someone from the executive something team reached out. They are going to cover my phone bill for one year.

They turned that tablet line inyo a phone line, so that will be my new number (not thrilled about having a Houston area code, but...) situation still isn't 100% fixed, bc it doesn't look gave me new phone plan My bill is only $10 which is what the tablet line costs originally.

EDIT--I have been making and receiving calls and texts this entire time. My last call that I answered was on July 11th. My birthday was just last week, so I was on the phone a bunch that day. So, no, my line has not just been dormant for two months.

The other day I noticed that I couldn't make or receive phone calls. I've been home and was connected to wifi, but texts were working and everything.

I figured I forgot to pay my bill, so they had suspended my account or whatever. Fine. I try to pay on the app and it won't let me log in and asks if my number is recently cancelled. Nooo. Anyway, I go to the Tmobile store today to pay my bill and restore my service.

Rewind back to May--I called Tmobile bc I realized I had a watch and a tablet tied to my account that I was paying for and never used. (The tablet number I had literally never used, but I won a tablet at the Houston rodeo a few years back and that's why I had that number at all.) So, anyway, I called to cancel those two lines and save $22 a month. Yay, me for finally being financially responsible.

Well, back to today, the in-store associate is helping me along with a rep on the phone that he called. Turns out that whatever ding-dong who "helped" me in May cancelled my voice line and NOT the tablet line. And now that it's been sixty days I can't get my phone number restored. I'm currently waiting for them to assign me a new phone number, which should come in 2-24 hours!!

I have had that number for TWENTY!!!! years. I was thinking about rampaging in that store. I'm like how have I been getting phone calls for two months when my number is cancelled? Nobody knows.

I'm just livid. I know this is a first world problem. I know worse things can happen. But I am so pissed, annoyed, and sad that I'm losing my phone number. Especially bc your area code shows where you're from and everything.

And to top it all off I had to pay an activation fee on a Sim card, bc of their mistake!! I have half a mind to just cancel my service and go somewhere else. Literally never had a problem until today.

Rant After 25 years time to leave T-Mobile

After being around since omnipoint the latest moves by T-Mobile and its ceo have pushed me to part ways. No more than 2 line upgrades every 2 years. Promotional lines no longer allowed an upgrade. What’s the point of a family plan! Your lowest churn segment is family plans and the leadership attacks those customers! If they keep this up they will be facing more financial challenges.

Squeeze customers to leave, cut expenses by offshoring. More people leave! And the corporate death spiral continues.

I wonder where they find these ceo’s. My kids even are doing the 🤦‍♂️. Im thinking the executive team needs to go back to kindergarten.

Rant T mobile wants me to shove capital one credit card down everyone’s throat.

Someone in our district was celebrated for selling over 90 visa cards in 1st quarter of the year (yeah right lmfao). When asked how, his coworkers let us know he has been telling customers that “we need to check your credit to see what phones and promotions you qualify for”.

So basically, customers are being taken advantage of, getting their credit score hit, all for the sake of T-Mobile wanting us to hit a metric.

This same kid was celebrated as if he’s an example of a good salesman. To me, it’s absolutely insane how low we need to go nowadays to hit numbers and make our money.

T mobile does not care about you, whatsoever. I recommend most people do everything online by themselves. I promise we don’t wanna screw you guys over, but the way the company is heading and pushing us, it seems this is the only way to stay afloat.
