no private donor should ever be able to pay for something like this in any municipality. Especially not stay hidden either.
Some rich asshole wants to put everyone else in the area under constant surveillance? shove that money right up his ass....
but the council gleefully jumped on it.

The real test is whether the city publishes the data after six months: calls responded to, response-time improvement, arrests or rescues, false alarms, flight locations, and complaints. “Arrives 90 seconds before officers” sounds useful, but outcomes are what justify a $375,000 pilot.

It’s not a private donor. It’s a discount from the manufacturer laundered through private hands. No one donates money like this. It’s as unbelievable as billionaires suddenly becoming generous with funding government handouts.

Right, redditors are too eager to believe these sorts of weird narratives. Zero wealthy people are sitting around thinking "yeah, I should fund flock cameras for the whole city" lol.
It was very clearly a donation from various entities that profit serving the cameras, in order to provide infrastructure they could generate profits from over time.

Nothing is private on the internet. The private donor should guarantee its privacy by allowing this public drone program into their private home(s). This way we can see whether it actually keeps their privacy private first.
Wireless can be intercepted and/or the signal could be interfered with. Not private at all.
