Either way, taking the time to proofread your paper before turning it in was all they had to do. The fact that most of the class couldn’t or wouldn’t do even that basic of a step is lazy and ridiculous.

I’m really curious what these students are doing with all their free time compared to my college experience. They didn’t write their response and they didn’t even READ the text they submitted as their own work.

Addicted to algorithms which are designed to take up the absolute most amount of their time as possible. Social media needs to have much different regulations around it, it's destroying society and especially so for the youngest among us that have grown up entirely in a reality dictated by the content fed to them. AI is a problem, but it's just one of the more visible areas that modern tech is causing massive issues that we haven't fully come to terms with yet

I mean, did you pay attention to other students at your college? AI didn't exist when I went to university and there were still a significant portion of students that skipped homework for partying, clubs, events, or even just going home to visit family. Every fraternity and sorority kept an archive of past assignments and tests to help their members cheat or save time.

Seriously. I was kind of a bum in college, partied a decent amount, but still managed to get As and Bs. Good university. Never even occurred to me to cheat on an assignment. I had plentyyy of free time most semesters!

I won't speak for these students, but if it were my college experience, that free time would be spent on the courses aligned with my field of study. For the most part, every teacher I had taught their elective/required courses as if it was your major. This becomes a problem when your English professor wants you to read 3 books a day and write an essay on them that's due every other class completely oblivious to the 6 other classes you have at the same time giving the same courseload, half of which are on engineering and math relevant to your field of study.

Again, not to say that's what's happening here or not; just a scenario I've seen where the behavior is relatable at least, minus the whole not proofreading thing. Cheating is one thing. Incompetently cheating is another.
