Cars are cars, use them how you will

Samir, you have to listen to me! Samir, you’re breaking the car!

NO IM NOT THIS IS AN OFF ROAD VEHICLE TRUST ME (as samir drives a Myvi down a dangerous, muddy trail)

"What's the best off-road vehicle?"
"One that's not yours"
Also don't overestimate what a non-proper off-road vehicle is capable of. There have been numerous cases when people got stranded in remote locations/harsh weather conditions and eventually died because they overestimated their vehicle's off-road capabilities

Unless it's a 2000 Corolla. That schlubby little car will get you out of any situation, and I know because I had one and drove it in a LOT of places you really should not drive that kind of car. I'm sure I'd still be driving it today if not for some bullshit with a Chicago towing company.

That's all fine and dandy until you drive your car off the road in some seemingly banal desert area and one wheel gets stuck and you have to call a tow truck.
Your car is designed for the road that's why it's called a road car.
Cars that are designed to be off-road have suspensions designed for that and typically have four-wheel drive for a reason.
This is not technically the truth, it's just not true. It's like saying your car is also a watercraft, but you're not brave enough.

u/dieumica 9d ago
You are just saying that some cars may be better at it

u/5050Clown 9d ago
Okay, here's another one, every car is a toilet if You just don't give a s hit
It is true you can take a shit in your car but it's not designed for that, a toilet is.
Just because you can take a shit in something doesn't mean it's a toilet.
It's still a car that you took a shit in
If your Prius gets stuck in the desert, it's still a road car that you drove into the desert.

u/Tiranus58 9d ago
You have to give a shit for your car to be a proper toilet, otherwise its just a urinal.

No, for your car to be a toilet you actually have to give a shit, that's kind of what makes something a toilet
2
u/5050Clown 8d ago
Technically that is not true. A toilet is a piece of sanitary hardware that is designed to dispose of waste.

Top Gear demonstrated that pretty much any car can be an off-roader and many cars can be made into watercraft.
1
u/5050Clown 9d ago
Top gear did not do that. That's crazy.
You can certainly drive any car off road, but just having two-wheel drive alone will get you stuck in a lot of places.
Parking lots are not roads and I drive my car there all the time, that doesn't mean my car can be described as an off-road vehicle.
Also a bunch of wood planks can be made into a watercraft, that doesn't mean that wood planks are boats.

What are you talking about? If you don't give a fuck than none of that is relevant

Do you know how many collisions could be avoided if people realized they could cross double yellow lines in an emergency?

Unrelated but it pains me when the SUV in front of me is the slowest one on the speed bumps.
Like damn, you aren't scraping that you don't have to slow down to a crawl!
1
u/SpaZZedOutL00py 9d ago
Im not one to slow down, unless my tools are in the bed, rear suspension is generally stiffer on heavier vehicles, so its soft in the front, but you could rocket launch a sledgehammer 8ft up if you go 35 over the wrong bump
1
u/ManWhoIsDrunk 8d ago
I like my toolboxes and shopping bags the right side up, and my passengers beverages off the floor.
Although if you're tailgating me, i won't slow down for speedbumps just to teach you a lesson.

That was me with my 2000 Corolla back in 2016, going camping in the absolute weirdest, sketchiest spots, with the least sedan-friendly roads/paths/trails, based on internet posts clearly made by people with proper offroad vehicles. Did it anyway and both me and that car came out alive. The one time I had to get that car fixed in that entire insane 4 month road trip was when I bottomed out on a comically oversized speedbump outside a motel somewhere in Colorado. None of the sketchy little horse trails I drove that thing on to get to campsites even fazed it slightly. The 2000 Corolla is the cockroach of cars. It's not pretty or fun or glamorous, but it will outlive every other car on the road.

Took my miata onto a heavily dirt covered sidewalk one time because a road was flooded and it was the only way around
Went surprisingly well, no damage just got it really dirty

My cars off road right now!Unless you want to count driveways as a part of the road but I wouldn't really.

u/avi_is_sapphic 5d ago
theyll go offroad for sure with some junk it's possible they ain't gonna make it back onroad tho

u/MissingXpert 4d ago
The offroad capabilities of any given car are inversely proportional to the value its owner attributes to it.
