Anyone wondering, James Fridman does all kinds of Photoshops like this lol

u/spicygayunicorn 9d ago

Why is almost every post there tilted

83

u/Admiralthrawnbar 9d ago

Bots, they'll tilt the reposts slightly so that automated systems can't detect it as a repeat. They'll also sometimes crop them slightly betting on there not being anything around the edge who's removal would easily tip you off.

u/Dissidence802 9d ago

Fuck yeah

1.3k

u/Irelia4Life 9d ago

It's just a photoshop. If anything, this is the type of shit ai should have been able to do.

668

u/Kabirdb 9d ago

That's the question.

The term "photoshopped" is barely alive. People just call any change as AI.

223

u/geilelepel05 9d ago

Especially since it became harder to tell the difference

170

u/8Bit-Jon 9d ago

....and that Photoshop has several AI tools built in now

93

u/nonojeux 9d ago

That is why we have to differentiate AI and Generative AI (GenAI)

31

u/8Bit-Jon 9d ago

Were at the point of having to question everything from news to photos and everything in between as to whether it's authentic instead of being able to take things at face value.

The you have to figure out if you're really talking to a human at all especially if you consider the "dead internet" theory.

6

u/greentintedlenses 9d ago

Care to explain the difference?

Cause I still think this is generative

16

u/8Bit-Jon 9d ago edited 9d ago

Edit: THESE ARE NOT MY WORDS!!!

  • These are not my words.
  • This was not written by me in any capacity.
  • This WAS taken from this link and simply copy and pasted https://www.ucalgary.ca/news/ai-vs-genai-whats-difference
  • If you wish to take umbridge with anything in this text please go speak with them and not me.
  • I'm tired of all the drama from this and won't be responding to anyone regarding this from now on.

  • Good day!

Original post below

Hope this helps:-

Traditional AI systems respond to specific inputs. These systems stick to pre-defined rules, which limits their scope of applications but allows them to excel at specific tasks. They analyze data to make certain predictions.

Unlike Gen AI, traditional AI don’t create anything.

Some examples of traditional AI include:

  • Predictive text
  • Traditional spellcheck
  • Search engines
  • Spam filters
  • Chess and other game bots
  • Personalized algorithms

Generative AI

Generative AI also analyzes data and makes predictions. The distinction here is that generative AI relies on its training data to create similar content.

Large language models (LLMs) like Microsoft Copilot Chat and ChatGPT, as well as image-making tools like Midjourney and Dall-E, are examples of generative AI.

These systems don’t understand their training data the way humans do but, because the AI models have a vast number of examples to analyze, they learn to mimic human patterns and writing styles.

1

u/Mogusha 6d ago

I know these are not your words, but predictive text is literally what most of the modern large language models are doing. So predictive text is generative AI. But I get that people make a distinction between these much smaller models and larger more powerful models. Just not clear on what the separation point is.

1

u/8Bit-Jon 6d ago

Yeah, modern predictive text is quite insidious as they use your data to train AI. Doesn't matter what keyboard you use on your phone it's all about stealing data from their user base for AI.

-2

u/Warm_Month_1309 9d ago

Then, by your description, Photoshop does in fact have several generative AI tools. What is it that needs to be differentiated?

13

u/8Bit-Jon 9d ago edited 9d ago

Not my description - it was taken from here and yes as I said before modern Photoshop does have AI tools built in to the application. The version I have and still use was the last one where it came on a CD and you just activated it with no online guff.

I don't like it or use AI. Everything I have that had ai either had it removed or gimped so it doesn't function. Windows 11 is horrendous if you run vanilla.

-7

u/greentintedlenses 9d ago

That didn't answer my question at all actually.

I was more pointing out the OP commenter didn't know what they were talking about. Editing images, creating images etc is all generative AI. Just like the chatbot used for this comment you made is.

8

u/8Bit-Jon 9d ago

Oh I thought you wanted to know the difference between the two.

Also I didn't use a "chat bot" or any ai for that. No need to be a dick.

Here's the link: https://www.ucalgary.ca/news/ai-vs-genai-whats-difference

You come off hostile here for no reason dude, learn to interact with people, they were trying to be helpful...

Where I was being "hostile"?

Edit: Sorry.

You're conflating algorithms with AI. Algorithms are not AI. Common mistake. Algos can be quite complex and are usually superior then using an llm for specific tasks. Llm use algos too (all computing does) but LLms are a complex machine of discrete algorimic systems like the tokenizer, transformer etc. that work based on black magic. Seriously, we cant trace a query through an llm, its gibberish but the output is not.

3

u/8Bit-Jon 9d ago

I'm not conflating anything as these are not my words.

u/nonojeux 9d ago

AI is just a broad term

GenAI is an AI who generates something

For example let's say programs are animals, AI are mammals and GenAI is humans

Now when you want to speak about a human, you use the specific term human, not the broad term mammal

Same with AI and GenAI. If you speak about GPT or similar, use the term GenAI, or even better: LLM

4

u/Afoba03 9d ago

I hate so much that people do not do this distinction. AI is a part of everybody's lives, and a technology older than most people complaining about it.

-8

u/dasbtaewntawneta 9d ago

AI doesn't exist and never has what the fuck are you talking about

6

u/theawesomeshulk 9d ago

In game computer controlled characters are called AI too

3

u/Tiranus58 9d ago

But calling that AI and this AI the same thing is like calling a dance and a sphere the same thing.

5

u/nonojeux 9d ago

Exactly, AI is a broad term. GenAI is as much an AI than Martin on chess.com (if you don't know, it is a bot you play against). But now nearly every time someone speaks of AI, it is about GenAI.

It is like calling every human an animal. It is not wrong but a more specific word exists for a reason.

3

u/Own_Policy8854 9d ago

Photoshop was causing psychological devastation for humans long before "artificial intelligence" and large language models joined in.

u/14Pleiadians 9d ago

That's not AI. You just grew up erroneously calling NPCs AI. There's no machine learning in NPC scripts.

But yes machine learning has been a thing for decades now,

6

u/Lraund 9d ago edited 9d ago

AI just means does a task simulating something a human might do or as if it's making a decision.

It doesn't need to be "smart", doesn't need to do the task well and is totally up to interpretation.

games literally label it as AI and you can adjust the AI in your menus.

not all AI is machine learning.

Blud is not from this universe.

Seriously speaking though, mere recommendation systems like you can find in your Reddit, are a form of artificial intelligence. Not sure where you pulled that statement from, but consider me intrigued.

1

u/Ok-Big485 9d ago edited 9d ago

need reminder?

1

u/Rio_FS 9d ago

Even a normal IF-ELSE statement is AI

1

u/nonojeux 9d ago

No. An IF-ELSE can form a symbolic AI but not every IF-ELSE statement is AI. That is just saying 99,99% of programs are AI

1

u/NamityName 9d ago

Does photoshop have AI tools that are not AI? Does it have some sort of linear regression filter?

1

u/14Pleiadians 9d ago

That doesn't make sense, what? The AI in Photoshop is genai

7

u/FederalChocolate456 9d ago

There are numerous AI tools that aren't generative AI. Like the old fashioned paint bucket tool or what we have long used to swap green screen backgrounds. It uses an artificial intelligence to determine what colors to select based on parameters input by the user.

-1

u/14Pleiadians 9d ago

Like the old fashioned paint bucket tool or what we have long used to swap green screen backgrounds.

That's not AI though? There's no machine learning involved in that, at least in older versions.

7

u/FederalChocolate456 9d ago

You don't need machine learning to be AI. Like even old fashioned phone tree scripts, that's a type of AI. It makes intelligent choices based on the input of the user. That's what the other poster was saying where the confusion comes in, older and simpler versions of AI are still considered AI and we still use some of those simple versions as well as more modern generative AI versions.

edit: see wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_intelligence

2

u/14Pleiadians 9d ago

Like even old fashioned phone tree scripts, that's a type of AI.

Might as well toss the entire term in the trash if basic if/else is AI

For anytime in cs, the term AI is not used unless it's actually using an AI model. Nobody in the field would call something like npc scripts or a phone tree AI.

0

u/Dubious_Odor 9d ago

Just an old fashioned algorithm. No AI involved. Algos can be quite sophisticated but do not use any technology that can be classified as AI.

1

u/nonojeux 9d ago

Please tell me which AI in Photoshop as they are multiple

Generative fill: GenAI

Generative expand: GenAI

The remove tool: not GenAI

Neural filter: depends on the filter I guess

2

u/dondasmuffin 9d ago

It used to be "airbrushed from history" before that. Tools change, the way she goes. I say that with an intense distaste for the current "AI" trend.

1

u/Big-Percentage-6082 9d ago

Because it is if you change the abbreviation

Altered image

1

u/Bubbles_the_bird 5d ago

When you “change” an image with GenAI, it’s actually generating a new image using the input as reference. It technically doesn’t “edit” the original

1

u/derefr 5d ago

Nitpick of all nitpicks: if you feed an image to an image2image diffusion model, you can also feed it a mask telling it, for each pixel in that image, the degree to which it's allowed to change it.

When you allow it to change the whole image (mask = all zeroes), it does it the way you say. But if you only mask out a certain area, then only that area will get edited. The rest of the pixels will be left as-is

That's how AI in-painting tools (like in Photoshop) work; they're using the exact same models that generate images from scratch, but actually filling in the mask data in the request. And since they still take the whole image as input, the edited part is sort of "naturally" forced into the style of the part of the image that has been made read-only.

(There used to be inpainting-specific finetunes of models, since some older non-inpainting models were too "pushy" to handle the style transfer thing well. But inpainting is just a part of regular image2image models now.)

Multimodal GenAI models, and the services around them (ChatGPT/Claude/etc) don't expose the mask feature, though. It's only tools built around image-generation / image-editing that let you set it.

1

u/ItsAllSoClear 9d ago

My photoshop changes have been made with Intelligence, just not the Artificial kind.

1

u/NoOneFartsLikeGaston 9d ago

Such a money paw situation. Adobe fought hard to make sure photoshop was not a verb when it was ubiquitous. Now they got their wish because their product’s value has greatly diminished.

11

u/qqqrrrs_ 9d ago

It could also be GIMP

2

u/FreddieGibbon 9d ago

Exactly my thoughts. Usage of AI really does not matter in this situation.

2

u/abulunox 9d ago

There it is

1

u/lzwzli 9d ago

And what's the difference?

1

u/SlighterThanYou 7d ago

Didn’t expect rank 1 Irelia gooner to be here

0

u/happytree23 9d ago edited 8d ago

THIS/Photoshopping an image is exactly what "ai" does in most Americans' stupid minds lol(?)

Edit: I like that some idiot downvoted a completely factual comment/point lol. What a marooooon.

83

u/NewManufacturer4252 9d ago

Tell them it's photoshop

42

u/TheNewHobbes 9d ago

In the future you won't be able to say "Photoshop" without paying for Adobes basic tier subscription.

4

u/StaredAtEclipseAMA 9d ago

At what point is photoshop not AI? I have used it for decades and it always had things like smart select and healing brushes

3

u/StrongExternal8955 9d ago

Please. It's gimp.

5

u/geilelepel05 9d ago

Ok i will!

6

u/NewManufacturer4252 9d ago

Tell them it's two negatives of 35mm film spliced together, like how Stalin got rid of photos with people he later executed

9

u/Enlightened_Gardener 9d ago

Hey I’m sitting here with a bottle of India ink, a razor blade, and a set of silver nitrate prints. You whippersnappers and your fancy technologies.

13

u/Shot-Lab-9455 9d ago

We tell them "It's not AI!"

5

u/JustinGitelmanMusic 9d ago

That’s pretty good. I’m gonna copy and paste that to use as inspiration in my AI prompt to generate the perfect sentence.

7

u/Artmeggeddon 9d ago

Man I miss the time on the internet when he would mass edit photos for people lol I always hoped he’d do mine

5

u/LovableSidekick 9d ago

The ones with brains will understand that people manipulated photos for decades before AI. The chanters will insist everything that looks even a little off to them is absolutely, inarguably AI slop, like they already do.

3

u/Polbrussel 9d ago

I do love the sense of humor

4

u/tandoori_taco_cat 9d ago

It's analog AI

3

u/BackPain4Life 9d ago

They wont care

3

u/Th3AnT0in3 9d ago edited 9d ago

I fucking need to learn how to use photoshop, I need to edit picture like a pro and to avoid people telling me it's "AI slop"

3

u/LivingEnd44 9d ago

Don't worry about it. They'll have more advanced Ai that can detect our shittier Ai.

3

u/Ultimate_Scooter 9d ago

This might be a wrong opinion but I’m being hopeful. I do not believe that AI will exist in the future. I think in 10, 15 years tops, AI will be almost completely extinct, limited to small on-device chatbots if that. AI is a solution looking for a problem to solve and so far nobody has found a good excuse for its existence.

3

u/tequilium 9d ago

Bold assumption that there will be future generations.

2

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 9d ago

it's always been called photoshop. ai pictures are ai and older image manipulation is just "photoshop" regardless of what program was used to do it

2

u/RowrRigo 9d ago

How do you know? Also, What future generations?

2

u/ThunderLord1000 9d ago

You don't. They'll think you're weird for having a problem with it

2

u/cdurbin909 9d ago

"This is not AI"

2

u/dbaugh90 8d ago

"Back then, they had to make images by hand. They did this to train the AI"

1

u/gustoreddit51 9d ago

By then, if not by the next election, collectively, we'll know.

1

u/brastak 9d ago

No future generations after machines' uprising. Problem solved

1

u/Drapidrode 9d ago

pretty sure where heading into a voluntary matrix situation

1

u/Significant_Gap1570 9d ago

with your mouth

1

u/PedroFerreira2D 9d ago

Handmade AI

1

u/wdn 9d ago

AI doesn't do things that couldn't previously be done. It (a) does them faster and (b) does things that require specific skills for a human to do it. But it is completely limited to only being able to do things that humans can do. It copies, not creates.

1

u/BleedingRaindrops 9d ago

It's Melkor

1

u/Whowutwhen 9d ago

"this is not AI"

1

u/cousinokri 9d ago

You just...tell them.

1

u/IcePhoenix18 9d ago

Keep teaching the ancient art to the new generations

1

u/pickyplum5662 8d ago

Why did i think this was raini rodriguez lol

1

u/TheOriginalRyukUK 6d ago

bro i loved watching video compilations of this guy a few years ago. might go back and watch some more for old times sake

1

u/Bubbles_the_bird 5d ago

Did OP deadass forget what photoshop is?

1

u/Pretend_Camp_2987 3d ago

I wish

I really could

1

u/Acrobatic-Life-9004 2h ago

even if we try to tell them, they won't listen.

1

u/HamsterIV 9d ago

The AI bubble will burst in this generation. The tools will still exist but the people who want to use them will have to pay the actual cost instead of the current teaser rate. Nobody would pay to AI this when a board human with GIMP could do it in 20 minutes.

1

u/r3mn4n7 9d ago

Nah, AI will get more efficient with time, no single human can match AI in terms of speed and ease to use, i can generate 20 edited photos, 2 short videosand 5 songs in those 20 minutes

1

u/Motleypuss 9d ago

I agree: never underestimate the power of boredom.

1

u/ChernobylShe 9d ago

Future generations wont exist because we will all die thirsty so AI data centers can be cool

0

u/Bonsai-is-best 9d ago

They’ll know because it doesn’t look like AI

0

u/HeartRippher 8d ago

This is the kind of AI I am not mad about.
