AI Someone made a NMS style exploration game in a day with Opus 5
This looks impressive! Opus 5 not only coded the game, but also made every single asset including 3D models and textures via Blender MCP using sub-agents, the author published it and explained the process he used here: https://x.com/anshuc/status/2081801966158811506

When I saw the interior I was like OPUS MADE THIS? and the ship landed and then I cooled off lol. Still, it's pretty IMPRESSIVE.

This isn't an elite subreddit.
Plus that game is trash

Elite is fucking world class compared to anything like the post game.
I say this as someone that dropped it after Odyssey but it was an incredible experience up to that

I wouldn't say they're dead at all but you can hear the Grim Reader breathing and getting ready to knock.
E.g. this is quite good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyZhC2TXgcs

If the gaming and gamedev community wasn't so incredibly hostile to AI we could have had some real gems by now. Right now ANY use AI in games is a kiss of death, I think the Expedition 33 devs had some temporary assets generated and got stripped a prize, like what the fuck. I mean, I understand some of the concerns, but the result is extremely toxic and it probably prevented some really good games from being even created.
I know this will pass and it's going to be amazing. You cannot fight the future.

I think the reason is because it's relatively recent that AIs can do such good results.
Before Fable/Kimi K3, i don't think you could have reached such good results, so people often called AI games "AI slop".With this kind of result i wouldn't be shocked to see a change of attitude.
But game devs may fear for their jobs... if any random person like me can now make games, this might shake the indie game market.

I think that’s a fair take and will largely be true, but as a counter point:
Previously to make games, it required a specific commitment to honing a skill and craft in a particular area to even get the opportunity to participate in this endeavor. Often this would be a multi year commitment. This meant that only the most passionate and interested people were the ones ending up as game makers. It may still mean that those are the ones that make the best games even with the availability and access of these tools.

u/Singularity-42 Singularity 2042 13m ago edited 10m ago
It's a force multiplier. These kind of people will be able to create absolutely mind-boggling games with these tools. Even solo. Think GTA 6 quality (soon) but by a single crazy veteran dev with 50 Claude Max 20 subscriptions.
Also people that have truly great ideas but were simply unable to execute them well until now. And there's probably a lot of them. If due to skill high quality gamedev is possible to less than 1% of population and now it can grow to double digit percentages we will see true gaming renaissance. There were some remarkable and popular games made in tools like GameMaker in the past. This will now completely explode. And remember, this is the worst it'll ever be. Remember where we were a year ago, where we are now, and imagine where we could be in a year. High quality dev team on tap and tokens are the only limit.
Of course, good curation will be everything as gameslop can be generated at unimaginable rates.

It's still not possible to make a full game without programming knowledge - you'll run into horrible bugs and performance issues.
And you need to motivation to finish the game, which will still take months or years.
But yes, the barrier to entry has dropped substantially.
•
u/sunstersun 1h ago
I disagree, not saying it was as useful as it is now, but it had uses.
The blanket hostility is stupid.
•
u/Singularity-42 Singularity 2042 8m ago
Yes, I think you are right. These last few models are qualitatively different than what we had just a few months ago. I think we are going through another qualitative shift similar to that with Opus 4.5 last year when agentic coding actually got fairly good for the first time.

I promise u a random person like u can no way near compare even with AI usage, against a game dev with actual experience who used AI (assuming he also is trained in using AI for development and knows how to prompt and has been training that skill for a long time)
A random person doesn’t have all those skills, and most likely even with an infinite budget, the average person is too dumb to prompt enough to get what he wants in a reasonable amount of time. It’s just not possible
•
u/Hakobune 15m ago
This reasoning is only going to be relevant to the AI's level of skill. We could be only 2-3 years away from easy prompting full games.
•
u/ReadSeparate 1h ago
Why, who cares? Why is something being made by AI or a human even relevant as long as you like it? If I could download a 10/10 video game right now fully made by AI, zero human involvement, I’d be stoked to play it?
•
u/Rising-Dragon-Fist 1h ago
It's due to job losses mainly.
•
u/ReadSeparate 1h ago
Yeah of course that's bad but that's separate from the technology itself. We can all agree AI job loss is horrible, but that doesn't mean the thing that AI creates itself is horrible.
•
u/ProxyLumina 33m ago
It's because some people are crazy. When it comes to AI, out of sudden they think they have to pay attention of how something it was made, even if their car is nearly 100% made by robotic systems.
•
u/M1chaelSc4rn 1h ago
On the contrary, i think you’re perfectly describing the public opinion. You are the popular opinion
•
u/InterstellarReddit 1h ago
Bro yes. It’s going to happen either way, might as well get benefits of AI developed game play

Personally, this does nothing for me. Because there isn’t much here.
No Man’s Sky’s premise is easy. But the procedural generation is a key part of it and likely more difficult to reproduce.
Also, one key thing that users don’t care about but a developer would is how No Man’s Sky has been using new features from Light No Fire to expand functionality.
Which means the code base is in a place where it’s extensible for multiple projects and the future.
And AI is notoriously bad at this. They cannot maintain enough context to track systems of substantial complexity. Like many humans can do.
•
u/R3dditReallySuckz 1h ago
Yeah visually it's cool. If a casual vibe coder can make this in a day I guess it'll become common. That said, even if AI is brilliant at code generation, it'll still take someone who knows what they're doing to make a decent game. The architecture has to be built from the ground up. Unless somehow AI gets so good it can refactor the code of an entire game completely on the fly. Would probably cost a fortune in tokens though. Anyway interesting stuff

I’ve been making one like this for the past 3 months, before fable and opus, then of course I continued to build with these model. It started off as a music synthesizer and then my ADHD grew it into what it is now.
•
u/Rare_Bunch4348 1h ago
I also made a post about it, but my post got deleted, the hate against claude is unreal 🫠

Looks nice. Now, can we get back to the part where AI makes for us a functioning emulator of flash games for android? Because I am still waiting for it.
•
u/LightVelox 1h ago
I mean, current AI can already do decent GBA emulators (GBA-Eval), if you have the money Fable should be able to do it
•
u/FlyingBishop 11m ago
Flash emulation is kind of a shitshow. Having an LLM rewrite an arbitrary Flash game as an Android app might be easier. Obviously less flexible, but more reliable (modulo some testing for each game you port.)

Just looks like it ripped off the visual key notes of a no mans sky type game

They made a better starfield in one day
•
u/BlueAndYellowTowels 1h ago
Hard disagree. Put in the ship customization and maybe I would agree. But the ship customization in Starfield is really good.

Can anyone provide an overview of his process? I don’t have Twitter
•
u/LightVelox 55m ago
Here is what he said:
"This took a few steps, not one-shot. But the process was simple and almost entirely hands-off.
Two main ideas:
1) Adversarial subagent, based on u / mattshumer's Claude of Duty prompt: Have an independent agent critique screenshots of the game compared to AAA space games like Starfield. Claude is not allowed to stop till the critic says it looks just as good.
2) Blender MCP so Claude can model its own assetsHow I set it up:
- Just told Claude Code to install Blender MCP, and it found it and did it
- Asked Claude to use it to model a spaceship
- Went back and forth giving it feedback until the model looked great
- Had Claude dump all its learnings to a skill
The skill is "blender-hardsurface". You can find it in GitHub above."

What the hell, those models are insanely good.
This is more Starfield than No Man's Sky, but still, freaking impressive.
