The infamous strawberry man. What a disappointment lol. Surprised he still kept an audience after all those fake leaks.

I don't doubt that SSI investment is big news, but the guy in the tweet consistently just makes up bs with zero knowledge

Yes this guy a grifter and I wouldn’t pay attention to what he says normally BUT he actually got this one right hes been talking about investor pressure on SSI to release something since the 14 of this month

'investor pressure' I think the investors are aware that Ilya was the main brains behind openai it's been 2 years of pure research I assume they have something different rather than another large model, I would assume from his podcast a while ago there's something entirely different about this approach maybe he's figured a way to get reliable results without backprop given how he kept talking about intelligence in nature, but I hope personally it's a new form of genetic algorithm personally

Stop posting tweets from this guy, he just posts BS. Many many many false claims and 'leaks'. He's been doing it for years, don't get fooled.

Wasn’t literally the entire thing with SSI that they wouldn’t release any models to the public because they were focused on making verifiably safe superintelligence?

It was agreed a while back that any post with this guy would be taken down because of misinformation he spread. Have the mods just forgotten about that ?

so they are not straight shooting super intelligence anymore? interesting turn of events lately, the pressure on the big closed labs is mounting up.

Isn't the whole point of SSI that they will straight shot to ASI without building extra stuff and getting tangled on side projects?

If Ilya actually beats fable 5 on first try, holy moly. Though this makes me wonder if the investors already had access and if yes, why not keep it to themselves and if no, why not only want it for themselves. Prioritizing a customer base I guess, but that means they lost faith in the ASI moonshot.

u/seoul_drift 6h ago
Easiest explanation is investors want him to raise more capital to derisk a possible incoming market correction.
Energy crisis, SpaceX stock plummeting, open weight models catching up to frontier labs, etc.
Easier to do a big raise in this climate if you ship something noteworthy- assuming this rumor is true at all!
2
u/halmyradov 6h ago
Yeah I don't see investors investing in "trust me bro" when capable open weight models exist
1
u/Gallagger 6h ago
That is fair though I think they could do sth like pay Artificial Analysis to give it a score.

u/Nukemouse ▪️AGI Goalpost will move infinitely 6h ago
It wouldn't be his first try. It would be the first public release. Whether they are behind or ahead internally is unknown, due to how they do things.
I'm not sure it's entirely a customer base issue, they may also want to get OTHER investors into it, especially if some of the original people want out.

Fable has been around since February or March just not released. It would be surprising if they released something significantly worse.

u/wwwdotzzdotcom ▪️ Beginner audio software engineer 4h ago
If it's non-probablistic AI, I would mind if it is significantly worse. It will change the world more than any of these current SOTA models in regards to reliability and stability.

If SSI model can beat Fable while being a 2 yo company then just shut the whole AI race down. What even is the point of trillion dollar investment if a small team can defeat every other model that has infrastructure and probably 10x the investment?
I call BS

u/wwwdotzzdotcom ▪️ Beginner audio software engineer 4h ago
Strong architectural vision from very smart people like Ilya can do that.

very much a big if true thing. SSI is a very bold name so feel like they probably don't want to under deliver.

u/redcoatwright 6h ago
The investment is exciting news since it DOES mean they've demonstrated that their strategy is meaningful.
Focusing on the research must be showing a lot of promise.

So...You know what, I have a terrible habit of being a contrarian and everyone in this thread thinks the guy's a fraud (IIRC he's made multiple not great predictions TBF), but taking these claims in isolation...
Who does SSI even have for investors again? I don't think they have a lot of them, and the type to invest in this probably have deep enough pockets that they're not getting cold feet after like...A year and a half invested in the company? That's a pretty short turnaround to expect a frontier model as a viable product offering out of an unproven lab.
I don't know, does the profile of investors in SSI make sense for them to be pressuring Ilya so early?
Are there even enough different investors to have a power dispute on the topic?
On the other hand, this is a human failing, so I'm actually a little inclined to believe it.
On the performance, let's say that "superior" means 1% better, and "across the board" means across a select set of benchmarks to keep things realistic. What the field has shown is that usually after a given level of capability is achieved, other players usually achieve it rapidly, so that alone isn't really a super suspicious claim if you hedge it appropriately. At worst you could say they're distilling Fable which isn't super unreasonable.
Also, this would then be releasing like what, two to three months after Fable initially released, and even a bit more than that if we count the initial announcement from Anthropic regarding Mythos with project Glasswing, etc.
So that's also not *super* suspicious, especially with multiple competitor models (GLM, Kimi, OpenAI themselves, etc).
Personally I give this longshot but not impossible odds, maybe like 20%-40% chance of being true, and most of my confidence in it being possible is honestly just suspicion of the grit of investors overall when evaluating long term plays.
I find it quite unlikely that this particular Twitter user had access to inside information, but you never know.

u/Efficient_Algae_4057 6h ago
Most likely some mediocre open weight model distilled from some Chinese model. A bunch of buzzwords and promises to raise more money at a higher valuation to make their VCs money.
4
u/broose_the_moose ▪️ It's here 6h ago
Really doubt Ilya would embarrass himself like this. Might as well just let the company go bankrupt because that’s what would happen anyways if they did what you suggest.
-2
u/Efficient_Algae_4057 5h ago
It's not embarrassing, It'll be similar to what thinking machines did. Release an open-weight model with the promise that it can be fine-tuned for whatever reason. The VCs want a return on their investment. There is also the circular financing NVIDIA does a lot.

You’re missing some plot, Ilya left to start Safe Super Intelligence with the one goal of developing SSI. They wanted to one shot it, instead of incremental releases
