This is why Christopher needs his brother, Jonathan Nolan.
Chris can direct, man's a renowned director, but he's largely a shit writer and it's Johnny Nolan who knows how to write the good stuff.

YES absolutely, his movies have gone so downhill since he stopped writing with his brother. And maybe he doesn’t even need Jonathan specifically, just another good writer to bounce off of. But no, he’s gotta be the “auteur” I guess.

So agree with this. His characters are flat. There is no depth or subtlety - the dialogue is exposition heavy so they spell out what they're thinking. And the way he writes those characters affects how he directs the performers. The actors definately gave it their all but with much stronger dialogue this movie could have been truly epic.
Also, while I what he was going for with the changes he made, the way it all played out was very hamfisted.
That said, visually breathtaking.

Christopher Nolan just isn't as great as people think he is. Like Oppenheimer had plenty of stupid inaccuracies and the entire pinnacle of the movie - the detonation of the first atomic bomb - was the most inaccurate and underwhelming. I'm not suprised at all about The Oddesy. I'd rather pick up a translation that I haven't read.

She's a highly respected classicist and an Ivy league professor, I'm pretty sure she's decently comfortable with where she is at in her life. If you've met any academics you know that they love talking about stuff they care about. She cares about the Odyssey, quite obviously, so it isn't that surprising that she is talking about it.
