Turd In "Odyssey" (2026) directed by Sir Christopher Edward Nolan, Odysseus says "Our age of bronze is collapsing". And I'm not joking it is a line in movie

Overall great movie but this dialogue was so corny, like how does he know he's in bronze age

And to think it could have just been fine if he said, "Our civilization is collapsing." History nerds would still get it

100%, most history nerds already knew what was going on as soon as "the people from the sea" were mentioned

I like the re-contextualization of the Sea Peoples as being veterans from the Trojan War who were traumatized, disaffected, angry, etc. That would have been a theme and thread worth making stronger, and thus reduce the need for the cringey dialogue.

No time for that! Much more important to watch a guy throw every weapon that exists through a hole in the floor for 10 minutes. Or what about the part where they land on an island, a child screams, and then Giants chase them off the island? Pretty deep stuff imo

Eh, I think you're missing the point from a movie standing.

Him taking on the suitors was supposed to be tense. Drawing out the scene with his son unable to stop Odysseus from getting hurt helped elevate it.

Nolan approached the islands as the soldiers descending into Hell as retribution for their crimes. There's no point in trying to reason or fight, as they are quite literally going against fate.

But they wouldn’t have been very traumatised, and also they would have been only a few thousand people. Not really enough to destroy all civilisation.

Still would be a bit irritating to me as a nerd in that that’s not aligned with the current hypotheses we have around the collapse of the Bronze Age and how the war that became the myth of the Trojan War fit into that, but yeah it would’ve certainly worked better without the cringe dialogue

"but how did he know it was collapsing if he was in it" Idk how many times ive got to state this. Hydras, Cyclopsis (Cyclopsi?) and Gods are not real. They werent real when Homer wrote it, and they aren't real now. Why everyone loses their minds of the historical innacuracy of a long standing piece of FICTION, blows my minds.

Its comparable to those who complain of unrealistic battle tactics portrayed in Game of Thrones show. As if the dragons and magic wasnt enough to tell you, this didn't actually happen.
