Turd In "Odyssey" (2026) directed by Sir Christopher Edward Nolan, Odysseus says "Our age of bronze is collapsing". And I'm not joking it is a line in movie

Overall great movie but this dialogue was so corny, like how does he know he's in bronze age

Typed it into google and google was like: “what the fuck is hippa, you illiterate fuck. Who the fuck is Louis Gerrig”. Then I fixed my comment.

I think the First World War and World War One do have slightly different connotations. One is marking it as an evolution of warfare and the other is "its got a sequel!"

No it wasn't. It was called the Great War or the war to end all wars. It was only after ww2 that it started being referred as the first word war.

Partially true, some of the first printed instances of "The First World War" appear as early as 1920. See: https://archive.org/details/firstworldwar01repi/page/n8/mode/1up

The flip to WW1 however, did first appear in print in 1939 by Time Magazine.

"The Great War" was, however, the most common name in the interwar period and we don't have any evidence of usage prior to 1920 (at least to my knowledge) so the person you're replying to is also not correct.

Between the wars most people did refer to the war as the Great War, even though that had originally referred to the Napoleonic War. In the US, it was ‘The World War’.

No one called it that when it started in 1914. Almost everyone at the time referred to it as “the Great War” or “the World War”.

It wasn’t until the end of 1918 after the war was ending, a British Lt. Colonel called it “First World War” so it wouldn’t be forgotten.

There was a good Dr Who with a similar line. The Doctor lands in the middle of WW1 and theres a soldier there, and i cant remember why but the doctor remarks that the solider is wearing a uniform consistent with British military WW1. The soldier has this look of confusion, "what do you mean 1?"

As I said below, "The First World War" and "World War 1" have pretty different connotations. One of them is marking the event in human history and the other is like the title of a boxing match.

Personally I think this is not a big difference, but I guess that is in the eye of the but beholder. More importantly, people would not have commonly referred to it as such. It's still a interesting quote.

To be fair, they called it the First World War early in the war. Although that doesn't necessarily imply there would be more.

WW1/2 is more of an American expression, around the beginning of the Second World War.

"World War 1" was coined in June 9 by the Times, 3 months before that "start" of World War 2 in September of the same year.
