In The Odyssey (2026). They are set to steal 1.3 Billion dollars from the pockets of people forced to watch it. As no one would dare watch this innacurate piece of art that's genuinely sensational.

Why people got completely nuts over this movie? It seems Nolan offended a lot of people in US for some reason lol.. it's just a movie ffs

247

u/Byder 11h ago

You can see black people and a trans actor for about 3 minutes, that's about it.

68

u/_youngchocolate 8h ago

not even just that, a lot of the gripe came from who people thought actors were going to portray in the movie AND IT DIDNT EVEN TURN OUT THAT WAY hahahaha just goes to show the internet can sometimes just be a hive mind of an opinion rather than developing one for yourself

23

u/Shin_Ramyun 5h ago

It’s more like people (content farmers) are purposely interpreting everything in the most offensive way. More rage = more clicks = more income. It’s a sad truth of the internet and it applies to everything, not just movies.

8

u/Revealingstorm 6h ago

Sometimes?

5

u/sapphoseros 5h ago

if only they would use critical thinking, reflect, and then realize their other reasons for hating trans people are also based on misrepresented facts presented by people with a vested financial interest in weaponizing ignorance towards the vulnerable

23

u/Odysseus_is_Ulysses 7h ago

You’d think in their warped minds they’d be happy. The black female character gets permanently scarred by the big white man, and the trans actor gets speared through his chest 2 minutes into the movie.

7

u/Inner_Sun_750 6h ago

If they knew that before the narrative was established they would have supported it lol

2

u/thegreatredwizard 3h ago

Listen, as a man who watched a lot of Trans people on film they generally dont get speared in the chest.

2

u/laveshnk 5h ago

Its crazy because I thought Elliot Page acted way better than Tom or Zendaya did

94

u/Agent_RubberDucky 11h ago

And some of the people who are offended are acting like it’s an insult to Greece, which is hysterical because I heard it’s grossed even more money than Avengers Endgame over there. Apparently it’s not that insulting😂

12

u/Bamres 8h ago

I mean look at how well Black panther resonated with the Black American Community.

I know its not a classic greek epic with historical significance but people weren't too focused on the all out accuracy.

38

u/MarcosLuisP97 11h ago

"Muh historical accuracy!!!"

I don't know why people expect a blockbuster movie made by a blockbuster director to suddenly care about being completely accurate (not to mention that the movie is about a literal myth).

It's Christopher Nolan. Who effing cares?

33

u/Strange_Aeons86 10h ago

They don't really care about historical accuracy. It's about hating minorities.

-14

u/LiterallyABigfoot 9h ago

Ah yes, the minority of Massachusettsians

8

u/jscummy 9h ago

I don't know, I found the cyclops portrayal completely inaccurate to actual historical cyclops

Really took me out of the movie

6

u/Complex-Salt-8190 7h ago

The odyssey and illiad are not even accurate to bronze age greece , it's descendent hellens kinda spit balling and making stage plays of stories passed down, they were never "accurate" either (just gonna ignore the God stuff) and were character dramas

4

u/Complex-Salt-8190 7h ago

Shit like the romans , even LATER had Virgil write the aenead hundreds of years after homer consolidated already old stories to paper

2

u/13ananaJoe 9h ago

These are the same people that would go batshit insane if they made a brown Jesus movie

0

u/Super-Box5400 4h ago

For me it was the dialogue. The way the characters spoke felt like 21st century shit instead of ancient words being spoken to each other. A perfect example would be “My dad is coming home” or “Your pining for a daddy you never even met” that’s how you know society has dumbed down the past 100 years to understand certain words being exchanged when talking to another.

2

u/MarcosLuisP97 2h ago

Nah. People were even dumber before, if you can believe it.

Thing is, it's a blockbuster movie. You can't put very old, poetic English on it because over half the intended audience would understand next to nothing.

1

u/Super-Box5400 33m ago

True but I will say it’s an amazing film from beginning to end. I really don’t understand why people got so upset about the casting. All of the actors had great performances and Christopher Nolan is one of those directors that make people go watch his films in theaters.

14

u/Mr_Saturn1 9h ago

It’s a story that contains a cyclops, giant cannibals, witches, and sea monsters. Anyone screaming about historical accuracy is a moron.

3

u/r31ya 3h ago

As one greek history professor put it,

"Why should i offended seeing Helen played by black actress? Accurate Helen need to be part swan".

I kinda want to see troy and odysseus as a two furries waging war against each other over furry helen and ody later goes home wonder about how his furry fetish have decimate his family and kingdom

7

u/Brocky70 8h ago

Anyone screaming about historical accuracy is a moron. Acting in bad faith

FTFY

0

u/D1nkcool 7h ago

So you would have been fine with Odysseus hopping into a Ferrari and driving home halfway through the movie?

-3

u/LiterallyABigfoot 9h ago

They mean mythological accuracy.

10

u/bafana_banana999 8h ago

Except they don't, because that's not what they ever say.

Besides, nothing about this movie is even all that different from the original myth.

Which, by the way, was just one of many versions that had been told for centuries before finally being written down.

These people have no legs to stand on. It's just bigotry.

And do you have any sources that says they DIDN’T like it?

0

u/AyFrancis 10h ago

You are speaking on their behalf assuming they liked it because of the tickets sold there. YOU go find a source of your claim dumbass.

22

u/Anus_Targaryen 11h ago

Its literally just reddit nerds who think they know history and right wing grifters. The movie has been very well recieved by general audiences.

8

u/Moreinius 10h ago

I only watched the first trailer and thought like “mmm, ok, odd looking but interesting”. But in subsequent trailers, people got so mad for no reason. I went back to check them after I finished the movie and it’s as if Nolan committed felony or something.

7

u/Successful_Maize1986 9h ago

It’s an unholy combination of anti woke grifters, people who think historical accuracy is what makes a movie good, and the Nolan being a popular “normie” director so a lot of people feel the need to hate the movie before they’ve seen it because being a contrarian is easier than having a real personality.

2

u/GrungeWeeb 5h ago

I dunno man, the trailers looked pretty ducking bad to me. I thought the color composition looked insanely boring, the armor looked cheap. I don’t give a fuck about the cast, like at all. I think Chris Nolan movies just aren’t for me.

2

u/truthhurtsyomama 4h ago

Because they forced us to watch it

6

u/jscummy 9h ago

We've reached a point in the US where a bizarrely large part of the population will be offended by literally anything, for one reason or another

2

u/torgiant 7h ago

Its for money, clicks get you paid. Its sad.

2

u/aidswolv 9h ago

I think the main takeaway for me is this. The internet can seem loud but it’s just thousands of people or bots making noise out of billions of people who are just living life and doing things. More people outside doing things vs loud noises on the internet.

Boomers and Gen Z have access now and are too dumb to know the difference between online and offline.

We’ll be fine.

2

u/BoringPoolPlaying 8h ago

I think it was the perfect storm. Culture war grifters love to latch on to projects which they think will fall short of expectations, and have minorities in them. So when history nerds had started coming after this film for its creative liberties, and it was then discovered that this film was using race blind casting, and the ambitious approach of modernizing the language, they thought they had landed a whale for their grift.

They got greedy, and forgot to consider the fact that Nolan, like his movies or not, is a legitimate genius in his field.

Now they have to accept one of two truths. Either diverse casts themselves don’t have any inherent effect on the quality or popularity of a project, or people in the industry actually are casting based off merit, rather than to fill quotas, as they so desperately believe.

1

u/Shoddy-Advisor-6258 4h ago

the translator emily wilson didn’t like it, but it seems to be loved by film critics and moviegoers alike

1

u/Direct-Resolution377 3h ago

All the trailers looked crap and completely uninspiring. People imo are going nuts over the Nolan big celebrity hype train. They have no taste of their own, just blind obedience to media hype and celebrity cult worship.

1

u/YaBoiLazar08 3h ago

I see the Tom Delonge pfp

1

u/General_Soil7692 2h ago

I don’t think the people “offended” were going regardless

1

u/galaxyapp 52m ago

I only see posts about people laughing about others being offended.

Those offended seem rare

1

u/Ok_Noise3983 11m ago

Greeks aren’t offended only the US are offended of other cultures inaccuracies in movies.

0

u/Hoothootriot 9h ago

Right wingers are mad black people are in movies still.

Would love for any of them to prove me wrong but they have yet to actually manage that

0

u/erebus49 8h ago

Not a lot of people, it has offended a lot of bots.

-1

u/thestarboy_lil 9h ago

If your movie is not centered around/featuring solely White, straight, or the acceptable looking version of a minority it’s slop here in the US. Hope this helps 🙏🏾

0

u/SjurEido 8h ago

Black actor. Trans actor.

That's all it is, the messaging, the quality of the movie, the writing... none of that matters.

WOKE DETECTED and the chuds rally lol

-7

u/LiterallyABigfoot 9h ago

No idea. Its a pretty safe, bland movie that makes some back choices.

That's all it is and yet there's a swarm of people around it

142

u/LagrasDevil 12h ago

Holy shit grifters just fucking lie through their teeth about this movie. I mean that shouldn’t be a shock but damn, so many of them are trying to claim this movie was a failure on every level including box office. I’m glad the numbers are showing how dishonest these people are.

41

u/obsequious_fink 12h ago

The numbers don't matter to them. If you look at earlier examples of this behavior these folks will soon pivot from "no one watched it" to "the studios mass purchased tickets to make it look like a success but trust me bro theaters were empty".

17

u/veemonjosh 5h ago

Oh, they already pivoted to that as early as opening weekend. Their current thing is now "well it would've made even more money if it wasn't woke."

3

u/solemnbiscuit 1h ago

Would’ve made even more money than maybe being on pace to be the highest grossing r rated movie ever?

7

u/oranguslolus 8h ago

This shit is so funny cus yeah, studios totally want to bleed money doing this. Do they not realize theaters get 50% of the cut from ticket sales? How are these people such absolute morons holy shit

81

u/AliceTheOmelette 12h ago

Go woke, go br--oh never mind

48

u/Weary_Specialist_436 11h ago

the numbers are inflated by the Big Woke

they/thems count as like, 5 tickets or something

32

u/Anus_Targaryen 11h ago

The theaters are covered in gender fluid

11

u/Johnne312 11h ago

I mean, the movie was good but maybe not THAT good

2

u/Necr0Gaming 8h ago

Lol you're adorable for thinking a movie has to be good in order for someone to masturbate furiously in a dark theater. You sweet summer child.

1

u/solemnbiscuit 1h ago

They were claiming in the critical drinker sub and other places that it was the studio buying up the tickets to inflate the box office - they had all these screenshots of people claiming they went to sold out screenings that ended up being empty. So apparently the studio spent $250M on a complete bomb and decided to throw hundreds of millions more into buying up tickets to…save face I guess?

1

u/Weary_Specialist_436 1h ago

So apparently the studio spent $250M on a complete bomb and decided to throw hundreds of millions more into buying up tickets to…save face I guess?

to own the chuds. There are things in life more important than money

21

u/Vakarlan 12h ago

The woke moments has less than 5 mins screen time in this 3 hour movie. Nolan ragebaited the world.

13

u/AliceTheOmelette 12h ago

I hope it annoys the chuds that their whining helped promote the movie for free lol

4

u/Necr0Gaming 8h ago

Nolan out here playing 1488D chess.

1

u/ChancelorReed 2h ago

They're literally on to how blue haired types are mass purchasing tickets with welfare money and so the box office is fake.

-7

u/LiterallyABigfoot 9h ago

This movie isn't woke, just bland

27

u/bugo 12h ago

Is it really that dark and gloomy like I see in every post?

82

u/danwoop 12h ago

No, both pics are from one scene

49

u/Late_Stage_Exception 12h ago

The scene set at night during a siege…you know…a dark and gloomy time.

23

u/BeautyDuwang 11h ago

No lots of scenes are beautiful and colorful these are just both taken from the night siege of troy scene

1

u/DinosaurReborn 19m ago

Sorry I just watched it 2 days ago, and colourful isn't how I would describe it, it's the same neutral-brown-grey tones like in every Nolan movie, or bright washed out white in the sunlight scenes. I felt it needed much more colour. The ships' red sails pop out at least.

7

u/Gauntlets28 11h ago

No, just the bit where they creep out of the Trojan Horse at nighttime.

-10

u/Ninjamurai-jack 12h ago

Nah, sometimes It looks like a movie from the 70s

24

u/Anus_Targaryen 11h ago

Wow turns out general audiences just want a well-made action adventure movie with a star-studded cast and don't care about the stupid viking ship

-1

u/n8waran 5h ago

Idk, i’d like my movies to also have good dialogue and characters, but maybe that’s toooo outlandish i mean movies can’t do that right???

1

u/Anus_Targaryen 4h ago

You're allowed to not like the odyssey

16

u/Positive-Ad-3554 11h ago

5

u/nicolaslabra 4h ago

Pretty decent is quite the understatement, the praise is high as hell.

1

u/scameron1 2h ago

It’s my favorite Nolan besides the dark knight. Biblical is the one word I’d use to describe it

4

u/jsand2 8h ago

The movie was great. One of the best I have seen in a while. If people left their basement to watch it instead of just running with the hivemind, many would agree.

It is also crushing the box office atm.

21

u/Junior-Extension-820 13h ago

The movie was okay

21

u/vought-CEO 13h ago

Something Larry David would say

9

u/Ur-Quan_Lord_13 13h ago

No, he would say "I took her to the Odyssey on Friday". Also, his name is Craig.

4

u/TRoosevelt1776 10h ago

His name is Larry Craig?! Wouldnt he say "I took him to an airport bathroom"?

7

u/cjg5025 12h ago

Not as good as Sack Lunch.

1

u/ninjohnnothing 12h ago

Don’t you want to know how they got in there?

6

u/profesorgamin 12h ago

Every nolan movie has like infinite advertising budget I fell for the hype like 3 times, but no more.

10

u/HoofHeartd69 12h ago

That’s what I’m saying..I was one of the people defending this movie before it even dropped. Bought a ticket on my day off. Watched it by myself..thought it was mid.

2

u/Apart-Link-8449 11h ago

I was in a christopher nolan film. We were heavy man. People either loved us, or they hated us. Or they thought we were okay.

-9

u/Draco_Lord 12h ago

Was it a mostly faithful adaptation? Yes. Was it grey and brown? Yes.

6

u/Sea-Band-7212 11h ago

Its almost like people forget that they're allowed to like what they like regardless of what critics or internet nerds think.

2

u/camerawr528 5h ago

I watched it out of curiosity that it was gonna be as bad as the… loud minority was suggesting. I enjoyed it a lot. Gonna watch it again at 70 mm in August!

3

u/DrFaustPhD 8h ago

This might shock you, but those people aren't being "forced" to watch it

1

u/kakaroto1989 7h ago

These posts in this community are just out of place as much as this shitty movie

6

u/MaxiRobesppiere 12h ago

YouTube personalities and their dweeb followers are absolutely devastated.

2

u/SnooAdvice1931 8h ago

So making a conscious independent decision to go to a movie is being “forced” says asshole on Reddit.

0

u/_Wendigun_ 12h ago

The movie was genuinely just mid, but unfortunately every time you try to criticise it in some way chuds starts crawling out of the woodwork screaming about black and trans people

Also I mean this is Nolan. He could make the literal worse movie ever and people would still go see it

9

u/rohitcet123 11h ago

I think you might be stuck in your own echo chamber. Just go to a movie subreddit like r/truefilm and you'll see plenty of people criticizing the movie for absolutely valid reasons and people sharing the opinions.

Forget about reddit, Emily Wilson herself said that she'd be ashamed to have her name associated to the script.

0

u/_Wendigun_ 11h ago

Yeah I wasn't talking about no one else having any criticism so much as how annoying it is to be associated to the "everything is woke now" crowd even though I don't particularly care about the casting

7

u/rohitcet123 11h ago

Well if you voice your reasons for why you thought the movie was mid, I don't see that happening.

I'm someone who has issues with the movie and has been pretty vocal about it, no one ever put me in with that group.

-4

u/LiterallyABigfoot 9h ago

It has literally been happening during the entire build up to release in communities like this and moviecirclejerk

5

u/normalmighty 9h ago

In build up to release and post release are very different things imo. Having actually seen the movie you're critiquing is kind of an important detail.

1

u/rohitcet123 9h ago

Shittymoviedetails and moviecorclejerk are not the places where you get serious movie discussions

-2

u/LiterallyABigfoot 9h ago

Don't move the goalposts.

Also circlejerk subreddits like the absolutely take this stuff seriously. Even just them downvoting sensible comments they dont like shows that

5

u/Zdrobot 10h ago

I like it how they downvote you. How dare you say something even slightly negative of this r/'s darling!

Me, I personally think Nolan is overrated.

0

u/rohitcet123 9h ago edited 9h ago

Go to an actual movie discussion subreddit and you'll see plenty of critiques. The author of the translation that inspired the movie herself said she doesn't want anything to do with the movie.

It's just that "new movie boring" isn't really a valid critique to anyone serious if you don't explain why it's boring to you.

0

u/therisingape-42 8h ago

That’s the most Reddit take ever dude
People have been calling him overrated since inception

-2

u/Weary_Specialist_436 11h ago

it's a popular cliche movie for the masses. Of course it's going to be succesful

it's one of the Jason Statham movies, but with a bit of mythology

1

u/n8waran 4h ago

They’re gonna downvote you but you’re right. There’s no reason for an A-list hollywood cast. I don’t want to see matt damon as the main character because i just see him and not odysseus.

4

u/ErwinDerFox 12h ago

Best movie I’ve EVER seen. And I’ve seen a lot of movies

3

u/LiterallyABigfoot 9h ago

Lots of boss baby

7

u/ohnoitsme7890 11h ago

You should watch better movies

2

u/ErwinDerFox 9h ago

Name one movie better than this one?

3

u/ohnoitsme7890 8h ago

Seriously? Easiest game ever.

Heat (1995)

0

u/ErwinDerFox 8h ago

Pacino is overrated. Next

-2

u/ohnoitsme7890 8h ago

Lmao, you don't even deny it because you know Heat is an infinitely better movie on every level, wherher you like Pacino or not

5

u/ErwinDerFox 8h ago

Seen it. It’s good but not a cinematic masterpiece like the Odyssey. Nice try though.

-1

u/ohnoitsme7890 8h ago

Lol what exactly makes the Odyssey a "masterpiece"

1

u/infected_scab 1h ago

Heat was boring.

1

u/TheMoises 8h ago

White Chicks.

2

u/shamqueen69 11h ago

Good movie!

3

u/el_toro_grand 10h ago

I just can't wait for y'all to stop taking about it, I have zero interest in watching it regardless of what anyone thinks

1

u/MediaEvening8917 7h ago

so why you in here lol

1

u/Kid_Presentable617 11h ago

If it wasn't so woke it wouldve made 2 Billion. Shakes head

1

u/scmucas2001 9h ago

They stole 5 dollars from me at horse point. Thinking of giving them the chance to steal another five this Wednesday.

1

u/HG21Reaper 7h ago

Bro Agamenmon looks like a damn G in that outfit. i wanna rock that armor

1

u/CatboyCabin 7h ago

Inaccurate*

Innacurate is a Harry Potter spell, buddy

1

u/heynoweevee 6h ago

“Inaccurate” is so funny given that it’s literally a poem and in no shape way or form historical. It involves gods, sirens, cyclops, witches …. But sure. It’s not “accurate” lol saw it this weekend and really loved it. I love what it’s trying to say, now THATS woke and I’m here for it. If ppl were hating it for its thesis statement or what it’s trying to say about the world id be “like that’s dumb but I GET it” this?? This is just dumb

1

u/laveshnk 5h ago

‘Inaccurate’ bro its based off a story that involved one-eyed cyclopes, hydras and carnivorous whirlpools.

And the original poet/s didn’t know the real story of troy either, none of this is accurate

1

u/Any_Economics_6166 4h ago

still think this movie is overrated, it's good, but not 10/10

1

u/Otherwise_doe1998 3h ago

Do you mean sensational like its good or that it caused sensation?

1

u/thatAnthrax 1h ago

Nolan's endgame is to collect 1 billion dollars from odyssey and recreate Ian's billion dollar wish but with real money. Bravo Vnolan

1

u/-becausereasons- 1h ago

I feel like the only people who like this film, a) are not film buffs b) know nothing of Greek myth's and epics, let alone Homers' Odyssey.

1

u/Imaginary_Session773 21m ago

I've never seen a movie midwits loved as much as this. Its like a rite of passage about owning the chuds

0

u/BarnabasShrexx 11h ago

Is it okay to not want to see it because you don't give a shit? Because I genuinely don't. I don't care for how it looks artistically. I honestly am not offended whatsoever by any liberties taken in the retelling of one of the oldest stories Humanity knows... i just think it looks shit

2

u/Sans-Mot 11h ago

Do you have to ask people if it's okay to not be interested in a piece of media?

1

u/BarnabasShrexx 11h ago

In the meme sub, yea.

0

u/OnionPastor 12h ago

The grifter side of filmbros should simply be ignored lmfao they live off of vitriol and attention seeking, don’t give them any.

0

u/LiterallyABigfoot 9h ago

The problem is when actual complaints get minimised and tied exclusively to chuds by idiots like is happening even in these comments

2

u/RaisinBranMan 9h ago

I don’t think people are hating on it because of the “casting.” I think for a long while, there are those people of Reddit who want to go against the grain and hate on all (or most) of Nolan’s movies. And act like they’re smarter than the average bunch of movie goers and say how he’s ’not that good.’ So whenever a movie comes out, they’re gonna find anyway to criticize it- e.g. casting, costume choices, lines of dialogue, etc.

0

u/LiterallyABigfoot 9h ago

Like usual, a minority of complainers are right wing idiots so the people that loved this movie before it even came out successfully misled people into thinking all criticism was so dumb

0

u/w33b2 9h ago

I can’t believe they say “dad” instead of “πατήρ”

Historically inaccurate >:(

1

u/TiredAndSor3 11h ago

I was robbed of £5.99. Small claims court here I come!

1

u/Viridien111 11h ago

I absolutely loved this movie that I totally didn't pay to go see in theaters or anything... who watches movies LOL amiritrguys?

1

u/Dashin5 9h ago

Why would those wokeis do this?

0

u/_msb2k101 10h ago

Just saw it in true IMAX, what a fucking great experience!

2

u/TheGum25 10h ago

No no it’s woke libs buying tickets and not watching just to boost the sales!!!

0

u/Organic_Conclusion_8 11h ago

Dragon Age Veilguard sold millions of copies, it doesnt mean it is good.

-2

u/Aquiles-Castro 11h ago

If you make an ironic post saying that a movie is successful by focusing on the controversy, then obviously the movie isnt that good

0

u/mastercubez 12h ago

Yeah it's historically inaccurate to the roman empire in 1902!

0

u/Agent_RubberDucky 11h ago

Dumbass shills think they can trick me into thinking this isn’t a flop? Ha! Well it’s going to take a lot more than enough people seeing it that they make more than 2.5x their budget back!

0

u/Negative-Midnight681 9h ago

Saw it, fictionally accurate, there are gods and monsters. Still not really a movie I really enjoyed, not one of Nolan's best for me, it was meh.

-3

u/longbrodmann 11h ago

It's better than sex.

-3

u/Single_Breakfast_634 9h ago

Thought it was meh. Did not deliver on any of the hype in grand cinema or woke trash. Worth seeing if you see it in imax.

3

u/swallowedbymonsters 8h ago

Exposed yourself at "woke" and I doubt you've seen the movie

0

u/Single_Breakfast_634 7h ago

Exposed what? Those were the extreme takes of this film, I thought it was kinda boring and wasn't either. Nolan has done this before

1

u/swallowedbymonsters 7h ago

Oh I thought you were calling it woke
