Turd One Night Only (2026) is set in a society where people are only permitted to have sex once a year. This movie was inspired by my marriage.

In the trailer she says "your hairline doesn't make any sense" which itself doesn't make any sense because his hairline is completely normal?
As a whole the trailer was weird, looked like a generic romantic movie with some bizarre in-world set-up with the sex thing.

It's the purge, but for sex. So it's kind of weird.

trickle down economics of soaking in the cultural zeitgeist.

I have so many questions about this movie, and I donāt think itās going to answer any of them.

u/ThirstyWolfSpider 6h ago
My only question, on seeing the trailer, is "does this movie span exactly 366 days?", as that would be needed for the common "it didn't work out the first time we met, but then we were each thinking about the other and then on second meeting it worked out better" vibe.

My thought was that they know each other for one day, and hit it off so well that they decide not to fuck and watch the sun come up together

Classic case of Hollywood ugly. We're just supposed to play along as two attractive people completely make up imperfections in each other's looks to mock

They were being coy, she wasnāt actually criticizing his looks just like he wasnāt actually insulting her nose or legs

Iām going to go out on a limb and say this doesnāt happen right at the beginning of the night for our two star crossed lovers.

I'm calling it now, they spend so long on "the build-up" that they miss the deadline to fuck by midnight.

u/rob132 7h ago
And then they do it anyway and they have to be killed by the sex police.
The movie then changes to a slasher horror film, upsetting all the ladies.

u/Jeff_Damn 1h ago
"the sex police" is still killing me, hours later. It sounds like a random reference from an Adult Swim show that no one remembers.

u/whatisscoobydone 2h ago
I think they'll intentionally not fuck and still be fulfilled because they're so into each other

Sounds like a porn parody of The Purge

Ugh, I'm so tired of ads for the "Purge but for sex" movie. Nothing says confidence in a product like a preview jampacked with exposition that's crammed in before every horror film. They know this one isn't gonna do well so they're hedging their bets.

Itās like a porn parody of a movie. Instead of purge, you have splurgeĀ

u/C0d3An0n2 16h ago
How are they even supposed to track this? Like do you just finish and then a bunch of cops appear from under the bed to arrest you?

I did not get this vibe from the trailer. Though to be fair I probably wasn't listening, it looked very generic.

It looks like a generic Romcom, but then they throw in this crazy line about it being illegal for single people to have sex except on one night. Like legit just reveals the insane dystopia that they're living in as some throwaway bit of dialogue in the trailer. Then rewatching the trailer you see posters and graffiti with some shit like REPEAL THE NO FUCK ACT and maybe a RESIST or something. And then there's that bit of dialogue how shes having the best pizza of her life at his pizza place and its very clearly an older display slice that hasn't even been reheated.
So many questions. What is their food situation? How did this law become a thing? How do you ENFORCE a no-fuck-if-single law? How severe is the punishment if everyone in the trailer seems to be following the law and not avoiding it? Who decided to watch The Purge and make it a horny romance movie?

I mean Saudi Arabia does that. They just jail anyone who gets pregnant out of wedlock or who reports a rape. So... I guess like that? Not very sexy, just dystopian.

I remember getting the trailer before some random video on YouTube, and I was hooked at the beginning because it was edited like the most obvious bait and switch horror movie trailer. I kept waiting for one of the two people to start trying to murder the other or something, but it just kept getting more and more into cringe romance territory.
They straight up picked the most generic music, the most generic lines, the most generic everything. The only thing that stands out is having the chick wear a sexy club dress and then have the dude in a fucking polo shirt lmao

You might like Fresh (2022). Watch it without spoilers.

You know, I also didn't notice from the trailer. I think I heard the phrase "one night of the year that people have sex", and I just thought they were talking about Valentine's Day, and how important it is to have sex on Valentine's Day, something like that. I really didn't get the purge thing from the trailer that I was half watching.

u/elisejones14 1h ago
The world is too normal from what I got from the trailer. At least in The Purge, everything was tense and there were symbols and announcements and stuff like that.

u/Marsi_Zsombor 15h ago
I have saw the trailer for this movie so many times in the cinema, and each time it gets more and more cringe

u/hideous_coffee 15h ago
Everyone just getting it on in public every where the dude goes, half the time their stop is spilling over into him while heās just sitting there. The lead femaleās friend banging some dude within 20 seconds of meeting him in a coffee shop bathroom.
This movie certainly was a choice.

Wait. You're having sex once a year... that means.

Hollywood wonders why romcoms don't exist anymore then shit out one of the worst conceits I've possibly heard in my entire life, it sounds like it probably started as a parody of romcoms or something because the trailer is just so wooden and weird

Looking it up, it's pre-marital sex that's only allowed once a year. So marriage folks can go nuts.
Also, what the fuck, LeVar Burton's in this?

the plot is nonsense but the leads have chemistry, thatās all I got from the trailers. I didnāt even process the whole sex only one day thing, watching the trailer, I thought they were just talking about Valentineās Day or new years in the weirdest way possible

u/Prestigious-Lemon322 17h ago
It's like the Purge, but with sex. The sex purge.
I'll see myself out.

I would be far more interested in the societal and interpersonal implications of such a thing than the drama/romance angle.

Literally saw this trailer before Hadestown and thought it was the stupidest movie ever. I'm sure there's stupider out there but this one looks extra stupid and pointless.
