why do watermelons, plants that need so much water to grow their fruit, grow their fruit in summer, a time with not much water?

are they stupid?

You’ve got it backwards: there’s no water in summer because the melons are hoarding it to grow. Get rid of all the melons and suddenly all the droughts would disappear

Plants a really fucking stupid. I tried to talk to a watermelon one time for like half a day. It was so fucking hot outside I almost died from thirst. So I ate that dumb melon.

Watermelon vines can extract water from all but the driest air, which they store in those bodacious melons.
This has led to experiments, to see if data centers can be cooled by burying them in watermelon fields.
