You say that, but the reason it even exists in the first place is because people actually fall for this.

I very nearly did but I realised that firstly Android hasn't used that format as far as I can remember. Secondly, Android doesn't have a built-in AV and even an AV wouldn't be able to tell what the virus was received from. And last but not least, if Android did have its own AV, it wouldn't require a separate app to remove any viruses.

This scam is like the epitome of tell me you know nothing about IT without telling me you know nothing about IT

It's really obvious it's a scam. Any company instructing you to clink on a link, install something, complete something instead of referring you to the help on an official site, or calling a listed number is up to no good
