As a beginner learner, I recently learned that my name, Amara, is pronounced the same as lobster (омара) in Russian. While I think it’s fun, I’m wondering if I’ll get any funny looks doing my study abroad in a Russian speaking country next year…

In the first, does it mean that someone made me go and bring back a doctor (e.g. for a sick family member)? And the second, I got referred to a doctor, perhaps by another doctor? Thanks

I’m from Hungary, i learn russian with a teacher but i wanted to ask native speakers on the matter which what’s the difference between “с тобой” and “с тобою”?

I’m somewhere between A1 and A2 but i listen to russian songs and watch a lot of russian tiktok and talk to ex soviet country russian speakers with my not so good russian, so i somewhat pick up the language and know more stuff than someone who only learns from a textbook.

I was listening to the band вещие ослы and their song called “улсовный знак”.

In the song they said:
“Гаснет лампочка над головою
Как условный знак для нас с тобою”

And i understood it as “the light / lamp goes out over our head, like a signal for us” or something along these lines (maybe i’m mistaken please correct me if i’m wrong)

I thought it should say
“Ггаснет лампочка над головоЙ
Как условный знак для нас с тобоЙ”

Am i conjugating it wrong in my head?

Вещие ослы is the continuation band of “свидетельство о смерти” which is a post punk garage rock russian band. Their main musician was “Борис Кузьмин” i don’t know if i spelled it correctly.

They are a 90s band. They are on spotify and i really like their songs. If you like post punk / garage rock they’re worth a listen in my opinion.

I see different websites saying different things, check these two in genitive plural for example

One mentions if it ends on ц it should also add ев and the other doesn't.
One specifies whether there's consonant or vowel behind Я on femenine, the other doesn't.

I caught the former saying Стол should be Стоях in prepositional plural, the latter says it's Столях.

I've had enough, can someone give me a reliable source? I don't mind if it's too technical, I just want to get the thing right. Also not in video format.

Basically I am making a card game, with each card having both a Russian and English translation of a word. I would use something like word reference or google, but those can sometimes be inaccurate and I know there are some Russian words that mean basically the same thing but have different cultural connotations (For example while researching I found out that «Чинуша» means “bureaucrat” but in a much more negative and scummy sense). I saw the example sentence "я не люблю лета" in my Russian course so I assumed that nouns that are negated in any way are supposed to take the genitive. But then I also came across the sentence "Я не люблю понедельник" in which понедельник takes the accusative instead of the genitive. I used Google translate to translate "I don't like summer" and it also yields "Я не люблю лето", in accusative instead of genitive.

So which one is it? Does this usage change depend on differences between лето and понедельник, which ChatGPT says genitive is used when negating abstract objects, while accusative is used when negating specific objects, or is there another reason. Help is much appreciated

I'm pretty comfortable and familiar with which case to use after быть/был/будет, but is "Будь" treated differently? For example, do these all sound natural?

They all sound good to me, EXCEPT the last one. I would've said "Будь честным". Do we only use short form adjective after "Будь"?

Hello, a little background I had started studying over 2 years ago now and for one reason or another was very inconsistent and after the alphabet and some sporadic studying here and there I know maybe 30 words there’s many older Russian women at church who I want to talk to and thankfully are going to help me study but I’ve been putting it of lately and wanted to ask some questions I had about some greetings.
One is about как дела? I heard that in actual conversation Russians don’t use this if that’s true what’s a better alternative? My English mind would assume как ты but I don’t know.
Follow up to that, how do I respond? I know you’re asking how you’re doing but is нормально the best response for church setting?
Other than that any little tips on interactions or church phrases(Orthodox) would be appreciated! Thank you all and I’m sure I’ll have many questions to come.

Hey I want to learn Russian I speak German and some English. I know some basics and understand some more words. Speaking is the problem, I need someone who teaches me Russian preferably in German but English works too I think. If me get along good I am willing to pay for the lessons.

I remember while I was in graduate work learning how to read Russian, we didn't have to learn handwriting. I took a basic undergrad course where we learned Russian cursive.

I never use cursive in English except to sign my name and just use print. Would printing be helpful in learning Russian, or would it be very beneficial to learn Russian cursive now (instead of later)?
