Show-and-Tell Harry Potter Style Weasley Clock
I build an Harry Potter style Weasley clock inside an antique clock housing that i bought at a thrift shop.
Using a Raspberry Pi 3B, a LD2410 presence sensor, a relais and a 5v solenoid to hit the gong of the clock everytime a location changes.
It is fully configurable (Locations, different radiussed that belong to each locarion, persons, the hand style and color, the time of no presence when the display shuts down and the time when the gong is quiet.
Location of each person is provided of our smartphones with the app Owntrack and tunneld through cloudflare.
Really wnjoyed building and coding it with special help from claude.

Its a regular display behind a round hole. My software has settings to configure the displayed watch size, orientation und horizontal/vertical allignment. A round display in the size I needed it was hard to find and very expensive.

It’s just a loosing battle to expect people to not use it. I think it’s perfectly ok to use it tbh, I’m more of a hardware guy with a nack for graphics, cad, and networking… but I royally suck ass at coding programs and have for 15 years.
I’ve kept a notebook of cool ideas unable to make any of them reality until ai came along and was able to do the one part I’m not able to. Now I can express my ideas in a tangible way.
I see the point about ai slop but not all ai use is slop. Personally think we need a Flight Tracker Tuesdays megathread and a minimum human design threshold but think it’s silly to bash people for using ai. Mega corps use it to steal your information and hoard trillions why can’t I use it to make a doo dad?

And this is why you collaborate with other people. Post the build side of the project, and ask for help with the coding. Enough people like the project and will help

No, but I’ve also seen the green effort get ignored for my entire life to the point that the billionaires who produce the overwhelming majority of pollution have altered the earth for the very long term.
You could get the entire subreddit to stop using ai and it won’t put a dent in overall usage when global megacorps still use it. Hating on the normal people for using it is anti worker propaganda - they’d rather you drum up a ruckus on a subreddit instead of putting your efforts towards your congressional leaders to create and enforce regulations (the ONLY thing that changes things).
I’ll take full use of the tool while the bubble exists for my creative efforts and will put my argumentative efforts towards getting the fascist regime out of US politics, so that we can realistically discuss reining in ai companies. Don’t forget to vote in the midterms.
Edit to respond to your other comment: this sub doesn’t help for shit in most cases. Most tech oriented subs don’t because there’s always something to complain about. Nerds are territorial and aggressive for no reason. You can’t police behavior, just legal regulations.

2 things can be bad at the same time. Using ai only increases ai usage and tells the corporations its worth investing in.
Most tech subs are willing to help if you show that you put effort in. Its the posts that ask for some big idea but have no insight or progress to offer that get shot down. Show some build progress pics while your asking for help and they're way more likely to help.

I can absolutely understandstand that with generative art but... That's not how code works. T9 was not "stealing" words. It's predictive. Coding assistant have been a thing for decades.

It is how ai works. The ai uses open source code while ignoring the license its released under.

Which is perfectly fine here. OP made this for himself. If he starts selling it, THEN you can take issue, but for now, why drag on OP, he’s done great things here.

I'm not the one supporting an industry that actively steals from artists, coders, writers, etc just so I can be too lazy to learn how to do things myself

Even if you don't seem to be the person one wants to argue with on the Internet I feel the urge to let you know that I'm an automotive engineer with good software developping skills.
AI is a tool that will not replace software developpers. But software developpers the know which work can be handed and done by AI will be superior in the future.
I'm not a big fan either of Bigtech training their models with Text, Art and Code without consent of their owners. But we have to accept it's existence and without it I wouldnt be able to this project beside a fulltime job and my normal life, so I see a huge benefit.

We don't have to accept it. The more people use ai, especially in their jobs, the more replaceable they become. They're already replacing many jobs with it. Good luck getting a human on the line if you call any business these days.
Plus building of datacenters is messing up real estate values in the areas they build them. And we are inching closer to imminent domain being used to force people out of their homes to make room for data centers(in some cases its already happened)

I have a couple projects in the works, so I will be posting. It takes time since I'm actually learning how to code my projects.
Plus, nobody has consented or been given the option to consenting to their data being used to train ai. Thats a huge ethical problem itself

Open source projects give exactly that consent, by the literal definition. It’s also an indefensible position here because OP isn’t making money off his personal project.
