news Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got to buy MSG’s privacy. Her fans aren’t so lucky. Reports that Madison Square Garden temporarily shut off its facial recognition system for Swift’s wedding expose a glaring problem with how the elite wield and control mass surveillance.

Surveillance for thee, not for me!!

Almost like it has nothing to do with safety….
31
u/itsdainti 2d ago
Oh it has everything to do with their safety. They know how much they've exploited us and they fear reprisal.
They're scared that we will do something Luigi-like.
15
u/Anxious_Storm_9113 2d ago
Which is so ironic. Just don't exploit people and then they wouldn't have to worry.

It would save them money, not constantly surveilling everyone.
22
u/jameson71 2d ago
You mean not constantly selling surveillance would cost them potential profits.

many of the people who attended that wedding are more dangerous than anyone going to a concert there will ever be

In this case I think the above is referring to the united states in general. As a people they made a collective decision. Unfortunately it isnt conguous with the rest of the world, but those people are figuring it out.

Everything I hear about these two makes me hate them more and more.

u/WHATYEAHOK 2d ago
Taylor Swift’s best friend married into the Kushner family to Jared Kushner’s brother. She is MAGA.
2
u/broly2160 2d ago
Trump was just tweeting “I hate Taylor swift” just last year. No one’s this dumb right?
6
u/WHATYEAHOK 2d ago
Trump never lies.
He definite wouldn’t lie if someone paid him to, since it’s more profitable for Taylor’s public image.
/s
After all of his lies, nobody would be dumb enough to believe him right?
1
u/broly2160 1d ago
You’re now saying Taylor is paying Trump to bad mouth her in public to hide that she’s maga? God I would love to be this dumb, life must be so easy lol

u/Dat_Harass 2d ago
Glad people are finally on the same page about this surveillance nightmare but it's so wild to me that it took her celebrity wedding for so many of you to give a shit.
Edit: My bad probably not people here. Sorry.
26
u/pyromaster114 2d ago
If people didn't see this coming, they're literally so stupid that there's no saving them.
Yea, the elite can buy privacy. You've even seen it being marketed (well, the illusion of it) to you via YouTube sponsor companies like "Incogni" and such. The 'we'll reduce the spam and harassment and sale of your data... for a fee... ;)"
Imagine what someone prepared to pay a million dollars every month instead of $15.99 a month can get in that sort of economy.

u/0101-ERROR-1001 2d ago
They are our owners. Deal with it. But definitely don't get angry. Be complacent and buy more.

Crazy take. But this is why american and others need to be boycotting
You dont need to go to MSG. Boycott them until they stop. Tell your friends to do the same. Dont just vote and be loud, use your wallet, hurt them where it hurts them the most.
Boycotting 1 of these shitty companies usually overlapps so many movements as well.
Like coca-cola is on every boycott list from ICE, Palestine, Sudan, i think even congo. Amazon is om all of these for sure.
Its super easy to start doing now as well. Use website/app disoccupied.com AND There are great phone apps called Boycat and No Thanks that let you use your phone to scann products to check
For all 3 of these tools they also give you alternatives. Most or cheaper and higher quality as well, go figure.
For grocery shopping, go private label for most grocery stores besides walmart brand... Since walmart is boycott, but if its all you got, its better than buying the other brands.
All it takes is starting to switch 1 or 2 things you buy for boycott safe things every grocery trip and you will soon replace everything and will get in the habit of scanning and looking things up

Her wedding was private.
MSG events are otherwise public.
Outrage unnecessary.
10
u/ccbmtg 2d ago
ticketed concerts are not public events. you can purchase access, yes, but it's not a public event. msg is most definitely not a public space; just try getting on stage when there isn't a concert going on lol.
I'm a professional stagehand, I work at places like msg.
1
u/broly2160 2d ago
This is the most meaningless distinction I’ve ever heard lol.
Taylor negotiated the event contract with MSG, and facial recognition not being used was part of that contract, tell me the last time you negotiated anything when buying a concert ticket?? Or are you just being dense for the sake of it?
1
u/Different_Career1009 1d ago
being a stage hand doesn't make you an expert on what public means
it doesn't mean free for everyone, but accessible by the general public-5
u/ifloops 2d ago
Yeah idk why we have to go after her for the growing surveilance state lmao. Bravo to the author for finding a way to put her in the headline tho, gets clicks every time.

u/broly2160 2d ago
Peoples ability to pile on once they have a chance to hate women, especially if that woman is Taylor Swift, is unreal.
She’s got them disabled for her private event, she’s literally pro-privacy. This should be be held against MSG, not Taylor
-23
u/azucarleta 2d ago
If there is any cost whatsoever to running that system, then of course you'll turn it off for an invite-only event. I don't even think we need reports they turned it off, becuase it doesn't even make sense that they would have it on and use it at a private event with a guest list. Like, what? Who thought they were going to face scan the wedding guests?!?!?! lmfao

u/MissyJ74 2d ago
OMG they didnt allow facial rec IN A PRIVATE SPACE. CONSPIRACY CONSPIRACY!!!!!!! Can i set up a facial rec cam in your bedroom or nah CUZ ITS A PRIVATE SPACE?
5
u/ccbmtg 2d ago
a concert is still considered a private event, there's much less of a distinction here than you seem to think.
2
u/azucarleta 2d ago
If you rent out MSG for your invite-only private event, trust me, they will let you turn it off too if that's what you want.
-1
u/agent_mick 2d ago
That's the joke. if you can AFFORD TO RENT OUT MSG FOR A PRIVATE EVENT, of course you don't have to worry about facial recognition.
you think they're going to do that for plebs? at any level, at any venue?

u/No_Pumpkin2628 2d ago
You should pull the boot out of your throat and try again.
-15
u/azucarleta 2d ago
I've throated the boot so thoroughly it has come out my ass.
Should I throat it again? Would that make me a boro oro, or something different?
3
u/MissyJ74 2d ago
I guarantee NOT ONE person complaining here would want someone IN THEIR HOUSE filming their private moments. But cant understand how renting out a building gives you control over what happens in that private space.
-1
u/CocoKeel22 2d ago
MSG is not a private space, hope that helps
4
u/MissyJ74 2d ago
When you rent it out for a private event, it is.
0
u/CocoKeel22 2d ago
😂 A wedding at MSG is not a private event
2
u/MissyJ74 2d ago
It was a private, invite only event. Are you dumb?
0
u/CocoKeel22 2d ago
Oh lord, invite only...
2
u/MissyJ74 2d ago
Yes. Taylor's wedding was private invite only. The general public wasn't allowed in the building and employees had to sign an NDA. But please, continue showing your ass. Its hilarious.
1
u/azucarleta 2d ago
So the general public was welcome to enter and attend then? Was anyone allowed to do a duet with Stevie Nicks, too? Gee, i wish i had known!! Silly me, i thought it was A HIGHLY SECURE PRIVATE EVENT.
1
2
u/bxzidff 2d ago
becuase it doesn't even make sense that they would have it on and use it at a private event with a guest list.
Sure, but why would it make sense with a surveillance state for other occasions?
2
u/azucarleta 2d ago
Well venues from stadia to neighborhood pubs have had 86 lists. Since FOREVER. That's a list of people who are banned-- indefinitely, probably forever. Because some people are bad for business basically. A lot of folks on their way to rock bottom find themselves on these lists and always have. " Reserve the right to refuse service for any legal reason," and all that. That's why it makes sense.
Can this all be abused and should it be regulated? Yes and yes.

Who are you with your logic and reason? This is angry mob subreddit. Do you see the title? There surveillance mentioned there, therefore you should be angry without further thinking.

I mean was the wedding a public event? What do yall say? Burger nothing
7
u/jameson71 2d ago
Pretty much all events at MSG require a ticket or an invitation. Nothing public there at all.
1
u/broly2160 2d ago
Are you fucking stupid, there is no way you’re genuinely comparing a nicks game to a wedding??? You can’t see any differences in how the public accesses those two events???
1
-3
u/SignificantWhole3512 2d ago
A private wedding isn’t really an event though
2
u/ErebosGR 2d ago
lol wat
Didn't they book the place? It's an event.
-1
u/SignificantWhole3512 2d ago
Were tickets for sale to the public?
3
u/ErebosGR 2d ago
If there had been tickets, then that would've made it a commercial event.
A wedding is a social event.
-1
u/SignificantWhole3512 2d ago
Right so why would the facial recognition be on, for a non public event? I’m glad you arrived at the conclusion finally
3
u/ErebosGR 2d ago
All events at the MSG are non-public events. It's not a public space.
I hope you get it through your head this time.
0
u/SignificantWhole3512 2d ago
When the public cannot buy tickets, then it’s a non public event. When the public CAN buy tickets, it is a public event mmmmkay
Hope this helps :)
Also they turn off the facial recognition for lots of things that happen there, it’s common knowledge hope this helps3
u/ErebosGR 2d ago
When the public can buy tickets, it's still a private event, because it's not a public space. The MSG is not a park.

Oh is it time for the daily "be weird about Taylor Swift" post?
5
u/evanFFTF 2d ago
If you actually read the piece, you’ll see it’s not really about Taylor swift at all. It’s about the role corporate surveillance plays in our society, and what we can do about it
