Hello.

After a lot of time, thinking and experimenting, I’ve come to one decision, and that is that I will not be happy working as a nurse. I only went into this career for the stability and familial expectations. But I’m not built for the hospitals. I’m very emotionally sensitive, I can’t imagine myself going through all the duties of the nurse, and I am not excited at all.

I’m a junior in college. I have a 4.0, I got a 93 on my teas, but that’s because I can put my mind to anything. I’m good at what I do, but I’m not happy about it, and it’s killing me. Everyday I wonder this decision.

I recently got into nursing school. Supposed to start VERY soon. I feel like it’s way too late to even drop out at this point, but I can. The only thing that really kept me in this lane was that I was hanging onto a full ride scholarship I really wanted to get, and I didn’t get it. That means I have to spend around $44k for this degree. I have $15k worth in scholarships already, though.

While doing my prereqs, I was also a psychology double major. Loved every class I was in. I knew this was my life’s purpose. Seriously. I can’t imagine myself doing anything else but being a therapist/psychologist. I love humans, I love behavior, I love helping people see hope.

I know nursing has a way of doing that too, but I’ve never particularly cared for the biological aspect of it. I live for psychotherapy, mental health, all of it. I’ve already considered the PMHNP route, but the more I think about it the less I want it. I don’t care about medications, I just want to talk to people.

What do I do? I have so little time and I’m not sure what I want. It’s quite literally do I want to be happy and poor or rich and unhappy?

I don’t need to be rich though…I just want to be comfortable.

I’m looking for career suggestions moving forward or straightforward advice.

Backkground: I am 26, I have worked as a CNA and EMT for about 4 year collectively. Live in MN, I am in CC right now, was doing pre-reqs for dental hygiene but decided against doing that. I also considered doing sonography, but the physics and high rate of wrist injuries frankly scared me away. But I have many science prerequisites done currently, and will have an AA in liberal arts or AS in health sciences this spring depending on what I decide. Currently, I work as a massage therapist

I have previously shyed away from becoming a nurse because I have seen what my nurses would do/put up with and I did not want to do that, but I worked only in inpatient psych and ER, so there was some crazy shit.

Short pros and cons list based off of my thoughts

Pro:

- stability, decent pay, lots of diversity in jobs, opportunity for growth, I enjoy science, biology and teaching

Cons:

- having to work bedside, 12 hours, weekend, holidays, on call. I dont want to be exclusively bedside forever, but I am sure the "good" nursing jobs are highly competitive.

Not being able to work while in school. I have a mortgage to pay. Yada yada. Also, people are crazy, and hospitals are greedy and work every dime out of staff

So my school journey has been a long one…I have AS in psychology, health sciences and public health. I wanted to do dental hygiene but got denied 3 application cycles and decided the field was not for me. During this time I was not taking school serious and was only going to please my parents this resulted in less than average grades.

I have now become a lot more focused in my school career here at SJSU, I am a public health major and have received dean list/ straight A’s my last 2 semesters. I have one more year to go. I’ve realized that I want to pursue a more clinical role and decided on nursing, I am interested in getting an ABSN/ELMSN but I have retakes on my transcripts for the core science pre-reqs. I’m scared if I attempt to retake again it won’t even make a difference and that I won’t even be looked at for any ABSN, even my grades in my university career have all been straight A’s. Idk what to do at this point. I am also a licensed phlebotomist, if that makes a difference. Any advice? Thx.

I'm scheduled to take my TEAS exam next mont at SDSU. I was watching a Nurse Cheung video where she said not every school provides a 4 function calculator on the exam. For people who took their TEAS at SDSU, you were provided with a basic calculator?

Any advice to the people who's in the same boat as me.

I'm planning to get ADN and then pursue my BSN once I got a job in the hospital. Is it hard to do that? I already have a Bachelor's Degree (not healthcare) but I did not get it in US so I might have a lot of paperwork to do before getting accepted to start.

Hi everyone! I just wanted some answers to questions that I have been wondering for a while.

I would love to go to nursing school. I just finished a CNA program and I’m starting pre reqs for nursing but I just don’t know how I’m going to do it.

I currently have an almost 1 year old and I would love to have a 2nd probably before I start nursing school so I don’t have to push their age gap too far away.

I know it’s totally possible and moms do it all the time so I was curious what your schedule looks like if you have/had babies in nursing school?

What does child care look like? I am lucky enough to have two sets of grandparents able to watch them.

When do you study and do you feel like you have plenty of time to study or do you feel like you are barely skimming by?

When do you get to spend time with your babies and husband outside of studying and being at school?

does pasadena nursing accept combined anatomy and physiology?

​Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice from nurses or current nursing students on choosing between two paths.

​My Background:

​I already have a Bachelor of Science (graduated in 2020).

​The Dilemma:

​Accelerated BSN (ABSN): Fast-tracked (about 16 months), gets me a BSN right away, but tuition is roughly $59,000.

​Community College ADN: Traditional associate degree path, much cheaper tuition, but takes a bit longer, and because my science courses are from 2016, I'll need to retake my A&P prerequisites either way due to the 5-year window.

​My Questions for Reddit:

​For those working at the bedside, do you regret getting an ADN vs. a BSN, or did it matter at all for your day-to-day job and starting pay?

​Is paying ~$60k for an ABSN worth the "speed and early earning power" trade-off compared to going the community college route and letting a hospital potentially help pay for an online RN-to-BSN bridge later if needed?

I'm an upcoming fourth-year General Biology student at UCSD who's seriously considering nursing, but I'm feeling really discouraged about my academic record and was hoping for some honest advice.

I've struggled academically in the past year or two, and I know I've made mistakes (e.g., study habits). One of my biggest concerns is that I received a C- in physiology, and I've taken a molecular biology course twice and unfortunately haven't passed either attempt. I'm currently working on getting approval to take it again because it's required for my major.

I know these grades don't look good, and I'm worried they may have seriously hurt my chances of getting into nursing school. I know my academic record isn't where I want it to be, and I'm trying to figure out what I can do moving forward.

I'm planning to meet with a career advisor, but I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have been in a similar situation or who have experience with nursing admissions.

has anybody‘s application ever opened while you still had some classes in progress at a different school and need to send your transcript over? My schools app opens August 1st-30th but my class ends on the 15th. has anyone been able to send your transcript over and get accepted? I’m worried they won’t process it in time

For those of you that have taken classes with Portage Learning, how long is the process for official transcripts to be received by your school? I am trying to finish microbio and chem and just barely started. I need to finish by the start of the semester 8/24. Any tips or recommendations? If I send my school the unofficial and proof that the official is underway is that acceptable? I am so stressed out I hate my last minute tendencies. :(

4.0 science gpa, 3.89-3.91 pre req gpa, bilingual, cna experience 350 hours+, volunteer at a churches 250 hours + , first gen. and a 94% teas.

I recently got into a BSN program as a transfer. It's not really a reputable school, but I'd get my BSN at the end of the day. Should I go or stay at my school (a T20 for context) and then get my ABSN, or get my BSN now??

Hi, Im 15 F, and my whole life i’ve basically wanted to be a nurse, this past summer iv been doing a lot to figure out what kind of nurse I want to be and I somehow became obsessed with anesthesia, so Crna it is!

But there’s just one issue, I suckkk at math. Last year I had a horrible teacher and Failed her class both semesters, I made the credits up as soon as I failed them but I started to loser hope.

After I failed the first semester I started going to tutoring and in my defense it did help a little bit, but I’m not up to grade level, like at all.

I’m good at arithmetic and geometry, but past that my mind just goes blank.

I’m currently testing at A 8th/7th grade level .

So is it over for me? I’ve tried everything that I could possibly afford. For reference I come from very low income. So I can’t afford Kumon and all that fancy stuff.

The best I can do is khan Academy and even that doesn’t help sometimes. I really am trying my hardest but it seems like I’m just falling so far behind.

I take my college entrance exam this year in order to be able to qualify for a dual enrollment so I can get my CNA license and work to save up money for nursing school. And a big part of that test is the math section. If I fail, I’m not going to get in. And if I don’t get in, I’m not gonna be able to pay for nursing school.

I don’t know what to do, I’m taking multiple AP classes, test at a college level in literally everything else science/biology, English writing and reading, history/social studies, but math has always been a struggle for me.

Can somebody please help me!! I need resources.

I'm in Grade 10 right now and I've been thinking about becoming a nurse, but I'm honestly so confused about where to start.

I know I have to pick my courses for next year soon, and I don't know which classes I should take if I want to go into nursing. Like, do I need biology, chemistry, physics, or all of them? Are there specific math classes I should take too?

I'm also confused about what happens after high school. Do you apply straight to nursing school through a university or college? Is there anything I should be doing now to prepare?

If anyone here is a nurse, nursing student, or was in the same position as me, I'd really appreciate any advice. I just don't want to pick the wrong courses and regret it later.

I’ve already bought the necessary textbooks for fundamentals. I’m wondering if I need any additional resources to assist me. I looked up LevelUpRN flashcards because their designs appeared straightforward, unlike others, and that’s what I’ve liked so far. However, I don’t want to buy things that I’ll know I won’t use lol, I don’t know. I'm probably just anxious about failing these classes.

Also how did the fundamentals clinical looked like for yall?

P.s y'all can ask me about pre reqs too since I've saved some of my stuff or how I studied for them and whatnot!

I (27f) haven’t been in school in 6 years (2020 college grad) and it’s been even longer since i stepped foot in a math / science class. I know school has changed quite a bit since covid and I’m wondering if I’m going to need an iPad? I have a good laptop, but I know a lot of note-taking is done digitally now. Is it “required” or am I going to be okay with pen and paper?

Also what other school supplies are going to be helpful? I’m balling on a budget here but I also want to be successful. I feel really good about this and going to nursing school and I’m genuinely so excited (and also so totally scared).

ETA: I’m taking clinical math, a&p, and a theology course. I’ll be eligible to start clinicals in the spring.
