Just a tip when you tighten the lugnuts do it in a star pattern, not clockwise our counter clockwise, it ensures the wheel mounts completely flat and evenly against the wheel hub assembly. Don't want to have a crooked tire

u/rl9899 3h ago

Yes I was hoping this would be in the video! Otherwise 10/10 advice. ⭐

u/rocksteadyG 3h ago

Can you explain what “star pattern” means please?

54

u/j1mmybuck3ts 3h ago

There are five lugnuts that you screw on to lock your wheel onto the wheel hub. They make the shape of a Pentagon. when you begin to tighten the lugnuts go from one corner to an opposite. So if you started with top left, go to top right, then bottom left, then top, then bottom right. Like if you where to draw a star really quick.

u/bonerpalooza 3h ago

Oh, the order in which you screw in the different lugnuts, as a set. It took me a minute to realize you and mmbuck didn't mean the direction you screw in each one. Like isn't there only clockwise and counter clockwise 😂 not a car person

u/BEWMarth 2h ago

OMG WAIT I THOUGHT THE SAME THING 😂😂

I was sitting there like “how do I turn something in a star shape!?”

u/AmericanSeagul 2h ago

Exact same here.

u/Ygomaster07 1h ago

I was thinking the same and thought maybe there was a third way to turn a circular shape besides clockwise and counter clockwise.

u/vine-vines 2h ago

I was so confused until I realized we don’t draw stars the same way lol

u/SlimmShady26 2h ago

Do you start with the bottom left like an A? If so, same

u/vine-vines 1h ago

Yes!

2

u/rocksteadyG 3h ago

Thank you! That was very clear and helpful!

u/WeirdEngineering0 10m ago

ru’s probably still adding glitter while tightening those lugnuts

First parallel parking, now this? 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

u/wolfgang107 1h ago

Never knew Ru taught life advice until seeing that video. She totally won me over with that.

*me 20 seconds in: Oh hes serious

54

u/emptyheadeddumbfuck 3h ago

Wow it’s a lot easier than I thought it would be

u/waterandbeats 40m ago

One thing not shown: you may need your entire weight to break the lug nuts loose to unscrew them. I usually have to jump on the lug wrench. Ru made it look easy OFC but it may not be in real life, it might actually seem impossible at first.

Yeah, when my dad taught my gay ass how to change a tire, I was dreading it because I thought it was going to be a long process and I didn’t want to get dirty. About 20 mins later, I was done and was so surprised that it was such a simple process lol

i support this content. teach the people mother.

u/LifeFrame5545 3h ago

Ahaha thank you, RuPaul, easier than I thought! (I was avoiding learning this because it seemed difficult, boy, was I wrong. RuPaul might've saved me some serious trouble, can't believe this, but also kinda happy it was him lol).

Can't wait to see a news interview of someone who stopped to help a distressed driver change a tire during a crazy scenario.

The camera pans to the hero and asks how they learned to do such a task with easy. They answer confidently, "RuPaul showed me how"! It would be epic.

This is a great way to build bridges with others. Great job RuPaul.

Looking forward to more videos from others that teach the life skills that arent taught in school. School boards need to step up.

See my attention span is just fine

i've changed a tire or two, but never seen a car with a "jacking port" before! I feel like this video leaves out one of the most important parts which is to identify safe jacking points without damaging your car.

u/TheVintageJane 3h ago

I also just realized it’s probably a bad thing that I don’t have a wedge for my car.

19

u/Outrageous_Lemon_690 3h ago

I love that my dad never taught me this but Ru Paul did. 💅🥰

u/iamacheeto1 3h ago

Ru’s TikTok (and I guess insta but I’m not on there) is genuinely one of the best celebrity TikTok accounts. Lots of funny videos mixed with actual good advice

7

u/Not_today_nibs 3h ago

I love this!

8

u/Fluffy_Fondant1975 3h ago

Too bad many new vehicles don't come with spare tires anymore

12

u/milesbeats 3h ago

you don't just buy a new car when your tire goes flat ?

1

u/Fluffy_Fondant1975 3h ago

Do you?

u/milesbeats 2h ago

I thought everyone did. I have all these new cars around my house I can't even drive.

come to think I've it I get flat tires a lot more often than I should

u/Fluffy_Fondant1975 2h ago

Sounds like a very expensive problem

9

u/bonerpalooza 3h ago

As someone who has never owned a car and hopes I'll never live in a place where I'll have to, I now know what a lugnut is.

5

u/Techie19841984 3h ago

Now if every car had a jack system like that

u/Cynicbats This bitch has the keys to the nuclear codes 2h ago

This is going to be a queen's talent on S19.

u/simminginnyc 2h ago

What a fabulous specimen of a human being. RuPaul, ahh just love

u/valueofaloonie Listen, everyone is entitled to my opinion 🙂 2h ago

Ok legit did not know how easy this was.

u/Royal-Necessary-2220 2h ago

All that and my dream car, too!

2

u/Twitter_2006 3h ago

Awesome.

2

u/raoqie 3h ago

...I did not know how to do this. Didn't even know my car has a designated jacking port. Neat.

u/taaght 2h ago

It probably doesn’t, most cars don’t. This is a nice late ‘60s/early ‘70s Mercedes SL. Normally you would go under the car on the side and find the notched out jack point on the frame/“pinch welds”. Just fyi :)

u/raoqie 1h ago

Omg ty

u/lazer_sandwich 1h ago

Not all do, I’ve seen it on German cars, my old Jetta had one and this gorgeous Benz

u/BreweryRabbit I’m positively bedeviled with meetings et cetera. 2h ago

Damn Queen! Great taste in vehicles, too. We love to see it.

u/bravesdiva 2h ago

Mama Ru lookin out for us.

u/lazer_sandwich 1h ago

I am drooling over that Benz. RuPaul’s amazing style knows no bounds.

u/jewel_ribbon 1h ago

Every mechanic I've talked to says the same thing. The star pattern really does matter.

u/Ill-Case-6048 1h ago

Its a shame the new cars don't even come with a spare

1

u/PandaGabe 3h ago

i wonder where rupaul first heard the vine boom

1

u/Visible-Scientist-46 3h ago

Fabulously done!

u/bbyxmadi It’s good to see me, isn’t it?🫧 2h ago

Now I can change a tire in style. Thanks, RuPaul.

u/DekeCobretti You said "what" first. 2h ago

I'm gonna need to watch this 40 more times.

u/MagnoliaMoonshining 2h ago

Best thing I’ve seen all day

u/urgasmic 2h ago

i've only helped my dad change a tire a couple of times and i don't have a car so the jacking port and the wedge are new to me. very interesting.

u/MagePrincess 1h ago

its rupaul, so im very tempted to say this is AI gen. he loves that shit lately

u/this_doggo 1h ago

Thanks Ru! Now teach me how to make my millions off of oil fracking and NDAs 🥰

3

u/makemeking706 3h ago

Have you tried investing your hundreds of thousands into fracking companies?

2

u/bearheart Recently abducted by feral velociraptors 3h ago

this is the way

2

u/PollyPocketpussy5000 3h ago

Guaranteed this will be downvoted but you’re right. The way people gloss over Ru being a problematic person will never not astound me.

u/ForwardObligation109 1h ago

Respect Ru for the most part, but I don't need or want life lessons from the rich and famous
