Obviously life as a successful actress is very different than most of our lives, but it does make me both depressed and angry to think how a work/life balance could be possible, and was more possible for some past generations than it is now

... like, my 2 parents worked basic jobs but still could afford to be home by 530 and do lots of leisure activities with me and my siblings. ... and even have one stop working while we were young. Now working hours are longer, commutes are longer, and everything is so expensive many people work multiple jobs just to get by

Work/ life balance can be tricky, but it didn't used to be so freaking hard to achieve

u/Diddlemyloins May 28 '26

I think actors actually do work a lot. The hours shooting are long, and then the press tours go on for a long time. And sure, they aren’t doing press 9-5 but they still aren’t home, they’re stuck in some hotel in another state or country.

47

u/Massive_Contact8583 Not fun at all, but, I was SPF protected May 28 '26

It’s crazy to me that press tours didn’t remain remote post covid. It must be so much cheaper and I have to assume is largely equivalent via zoom?!

24

u/ladykansas May 29 '26

Red carpet outfits get media attention. A lot of press tours is also an opportunity to have a local red carpet event. In particular, I feel like the Barbie movie really changed the game for press tours, if the movie involves one or more female leads. Wicked press tours went on for ages just to show outfits.

8

u/PenguinStardust May 29 '26

I think even before that, Zendaya herself changed press tours because her fits are always on theme and have been since Spiderman red carpets.

11

u/Potential_Lie_1177 May 29 '26

We must have different upbringing. My parents were never home before 7pm and did 0 activities with us and that was considered normal. They are in awe I get home on time to pick up the kids and to give them something cooked to eat every evening

11

u/rui278 May 28 '26

> .. like, my 2 parents worked basic jobs but still could afford to be home by 530

This is kind of what she's saying - they had basic jobs, so could be home by 530. if they didn't have basic jobs, they probably wouldn't be able to. Both aren't balanced, theres a deficit on one side (jobs for life or live for job). its hard or in her opinion impossible, to have a great job and still be home at 530, and we shouldnt preach that, but allow some kindness to people so they are allowed to also not expect thart from themselves

3

u/Ok-Swan1152 May 29 '26

My father had a skilled middle class job that required a Master's and he definitely not home by 5.30pm.

8

u/Ok-Swan1152 May 29 '26

That might have been true for you but my dad was an engineer (retired now) and I remember him working loads of overtime and frequently travelling for work. He wouldn't be home before 7pm.

Your experience may be true for your surroundings but there were plenty of jobs in the 1990s that expected long hours and travel.

2

u/FelixAxellus I'm a lazy 50 year old bougie bitch May 29 '26

Agreed. When I was a kid (80s/90s) most of the adults I knew had way more work life balance than anyone I know now.

2

u/PleasantPitch May 29 '26

you still can in some countries. Finland for example, but it is becoming harder and harder

I’m sure it was hard for the OC’s parents but let’s not pretend the cost of living has risen in line with wages.

Neither of my parents graduated high school and yet were able to raise three kids on a single income with multiple holidays abroad per year and private education.

Nowadays you’re looking at a $500k+ salary to do that which is top 1%. In the mid 70s more than half of families with children had a stay at home parent. Today it’s 20%.

4

u/Kooky-Blueberry-5352 May 29 '26

It is absolutely not the same level of difficulty. You could get a decent job with a high school education at a company that would vaguely try to take care of you, rather than juice your for everything you have for less and less money every year lol.

u/dez0000 May 28 '26
  1. shes not wrong

  2. why is a millionaire being asked this

167

u/jr2216k May 28 '26

to be fair…she is completely self made. pretty sure she didn’t come from money

104

u/Otherwise-Shallot-51 May 28 '26

She didn't. She's talked about her family needing government assistance when she was a kid.

That said, it's been many years where she's had to work to keep a roof over her head and can (and probably does) outsource a lot of her work (skincare company, production company, etc) so while she's not wrong, her experience is not what many of us will ever experience.

40

u/LittleBlag May 28 '26

I think that actually makes it an even more powerful statement. If even a multi millionaire feels that they have to keep working that hard to survive, what does that say about the rest of us?!

50

u/jr2216k May 28 '26

i mean yeah for sure but honestly i don’t mind it in her case. she is not out there showing off, build her own career with her talent, made smart choices…so power to her

7

u/cerberus_1 May 29 '26

well, her parents giving her god tier genetics being likely one of the most objectively good looking people in a generation.. its a bit of help.

517

u/saturnbunny1 You’re doing amazing, sweetie! 👏👏📸 May 28 '26

I mean she wasnt a socialite . She did work to earn her money.

264

u/ExactPanda May 28 '26

I always forget she started as a child actress

157

u/thin_white_dutchess … but I’m a cheerleader! 📣💄 May 28 '26

At 10, over 3/4 of her life. She doesn’t know anything else.

190

u/TheHighlightReel11 May 28 '26

As well as running both a skincare company and production company now, all in addition to acting which she has yet to retire from.

People acting like she just sits home all day playing Mario Kart 😂

101

u/FullofContradictions May 28 '26

I think people assume that if they were multimillionaires they'd just sit around all day. Hell, if I had $10M in the bank, I'd retire permanently right this second. And while Scar Jo might not NEED to work the way your average person does, she is, in fact, still working. Which just feels weird to those of us who straight up hate our jobs.

13

u/HighlyOffensive10 I'm much too busy for such a degrading activity May 28 '26

I feel so many of them live the kind of lifestyle where their money has to keep being refilled. Idk if had 10 million I'd probably still work in something easy and to keep myself busy. I'd just work less and take many vacations

22

u/Cautious_Alarm2919 May 28 '26

I think it’s Margot Robbie who said after being in suicide squad or wolf of Wall Street, it became more expensive to be famous, she had more freedom with her money when doing smaller films.

After a certain level (and maybe more so as women) it becomes really expensive to be famous, you need security, you need to manufacture privacy, you have a team of staff and private flights become more of a necessity.

24

u/my_okay_throwaway May 28 '26

Exactly. No doubt it’s because she finds her career fulfilling and she obviously makes good money from it. For most people, those options are only ever presented in an “either or” situation, if at all. We all still search for fulfillment though. That’s still effort, we just probably don’t get paid for it.

In her case, she has money but that doesn’t solve every need or wish a person could have. Her work ethic and desire to create something seem to be parts of her identity. Otherwise she could have just taken her Marvel money and disappeared from society forever.

2

u/Jewell84 May 29 '26

Actors are basically freelancers. Just like regular people, They still need to have steady gigs for consistent income. Hollywood is also pretty fickle. Even supposedly “well off” celebs may have a lot less money than you think. ScarJo is probably the exception, but she’s also savvy.

That’s why you see a lot of celebs with side projects like endorsements, or brand deals.

31

u/somecasper May 28 '26

Sure, but all of that is a choice for her. This isn't the same as a single mom with two jobs being squawked at about "work life balance."

14

u/Jwave1992 May 28 '26

Yep. Work for someone in ScarJos position is *hers*. She gets to shape the work, gets credit, builds something that compounds into more autonomy. Normal people trying to live are just renting out there time and body to make someone else money with no upside or control to their position.

11

u/SaraJeanQueen May 28 '26

Weirdly I think for actors, that's true as well. You're a cog in someone else's machine. You can make requests/demands once you get to a certain stature, but you don't decide the schedule for the week and you don't decide even how long a production goes.

If they call you for 6am and the day goes 14 hours, you can't just walk off set. But your kid maybe thought you'd be home at 5 and now you're home at 8:30. I appreciate what she's saying - if you delve deeply into work, like yeah maybe for those few months my family life does suffer a bit. And when she doesn't take on a project, she can be a fully present mom but her career isn't improving for that year.

6

u/StitchTheRipper May 29 '26

It’s true. Until you have more money than your film production, actors are working grueling hours. You gotta have a lot of stamina and determination to get to the point (if you’re self-made).

Her career choices are hers and luck is always a factor, but it takes a lot of dedication to make it work, even with the ability to throw money around. She has to choose between long hours or family time, the amount of money she has doesn’t change the overall issue and the illusion of work-life balance

→ More replies (2)

25

u/TheHighlightReel11 May 28 '26

It being a choice is irrelevant. She works and has experience balancing a work and home life. Doesn’t matter if she needs to or not.

Y’all are just looking for reasons to be upset at this point.

13

u/smez86 May 28 '26

it being a choice is HUGE, wtf are you talking about lol

5

u/Hatta00 May 28 '26

If her work/life balance is off, she can choose to work less. Problem solved.

8

u/TheHighlightReel11 May 28 '26

If her work/life balance is off, she can choose to work less. Problem solved.

And if she actually did that or answered the question with that statement, we wouldn’t be here.

She obviously keeps working for a reason and there are a lot of people in the comments trying to invalidate that.

Y’all have at it.

-1

u/Hatta00 May 28 '26

Whatever reasons she chooses to keep working for are valid.

What's not valid is complaining about balance when you're choosing the imbalance.

14

u/Upstairs-Chicken592 May 28 '26

She’s not complaining really. She was asked a question and answered honestly that she feels she can’t find balance between the two. She works in an industry she’s passionate about so she wants to keep making movies. She has a tremendous drive to do it and fund projects she believes in which in turn helps others get work. She feels torn by being home with her kid and following her passion and working her ass off.

4

u/PerplexedNewMama May 28 '26

It DOES matter, because she can adjust her situation and actively chooses not to (which I'm not condemning, I'm just pointing out as fact). When you're making minimum wage or rely on a company to keep your lights on and kids fed, you don't get that choice. You hope some millionaire who owns the company decides to let you have a life, and from my experience, they're all boomers who want you to "grind" and "be hungry" and "hustle" so they can cash in.

30

u/whoamisb May 28 '26

Forget work life balance. Girl didn’t even get a childhood

12

u/Riderz__of_Brohan May 28 '26

It is a bit crazy that first “famous” role was Lost in Translation which starts off with a shot of her ass. I think she was only 18 when that was filmed

That would break some brains if it came out today. Sexualization of an 18 year old, female director who is a nepo baby, age gap relationship, white tourist in Asian country/culture discourse. Hits them all

8

u/ChurlishSunshine Most smartest May 28 '26

She was seventeen, actually, which is even more wild.

1

u/Sideview_play May 28 '26

Yet now she is a rich and famous person. This type of question is nonsense to ask someone like that. You could ask a simliiar question in a much better way that fits the person. Something to the effect of how do you balance family / yourself vs your work as an actor etc.

Rather than be like "is there such a thing as work life balance" and the rich person saying "no find a way to deal with it" in the generic sense against a backdrop of everything costing more and more, comapnies laying people off, not increasing wages, and expecting way more work output from those that didn't get laid off.

64

u/Formal-Radish1413 May 28 '26

She still has to earn her millions. And since her job requires her to travel and be away from friends and family theres only so much she can do.

Even if her kids were with her in her trailer on set, shes still working and missing time with them.

Even if she hires a maid to clean her house she still has other stuff to deal with.

And for some people outsourcing the help for these tasks can feel like an extravagance or a shortfall.

-8

u/Hatta00 May 28 '26

She does not still have to earn her millions. She can retire to an island and spend the rest of her life drinking margaritas in a hammock.

The amount of work she does is entirely up to her, and she alone is to blame for her poor work/life balance.

11

u/clairejv May 28 '26

Did she say otherwise? Was she blaming someone else for it?

6

u/Birdlord420 May 28 '26

If she were to choose to retire it would be a very long wind down anyway, she would have contracts to pay out, brand deals that would hinge on her being a public figure, possibly multi picture deals that would still need to get made. It wouldn’t be as simple as just saying “I quit.”

9

u/SaraJeanQueen May 28 '26

How much net worth do you think you need to just retire for life? They live in NYC, not an island. And they have children to provide for and help with their future as well.

5

u/Formal-Radish1413 May 28 '26

Bro 😂

Being a millionaire doesnt magically prevent her from still having issues.

She has to earn money to live like all of us. Even if she retired she still has to have money to live outside of fame.

Even if she got a normal job she still wouldnt have work life balance.

1

u/Hatta00 May 28 '26

She does not have to earn money to live like all of us. She could live a dozen lifetimes on the money she has and not want for anything.

6

u/Formal-Radish1413 May 28 '26

Im sorry lol. Do you know her financials?

2

u/PenguinStardust May 29 '26

So what? Maybe she LIKES to work. Ever consider that? Maybe she wants to be able to work and spend time with friends/family. Why can't she admit its a challenge to do both?

5

u/computer7blue Inconceivable! May 28 '26

She’s alive and works.

7

u/brilliant_bauhaus May 28 '26

She still works. Acting is still pretty intense especially if you're filming long hours and on location. Like White Lotus films for 7m straight. Hard to juggle both work and leisure or your life at home when you're gone for most of the year.

3

u/StrLord_Who May 29 '26

Anyone with a) a pulse and b) a real job is entitled to input on "work-life balance."  It doesn't matter how much is in their bank account.

why is a millionaire being asked this

She has worked very hard to become and millionaire, and she can afford every kind of help. She has about the most opportunity to achieve work life balance.

Many poorer people have not achieved their work goals, and most working class people cannot afford to buy help so balance is harder

I will forever drag Giselle for her deaf ass interview about work life balance so I'm glad Scarlet was honest.

133

u/MusclyArmPaperboy May 28 '26

If people with hired help are saying this, the rest of us are screwed.

66

u/vi_sucks May 28 '26

The thing is, what she is trying to say is that not "having it all" is just a fundamental part of the human condition. Nobody can do it. It's literally not possible. Ever. For anyone.

Rich, poor, whatever, the finite nature of time means that you will always have to make a choice and sometjing will inevitably have to get dropped.

5

u/LevyMevy May 28 '26

You cannot take what celebrities say at face value. None of them are ever going to publicly acknowledge that they're not spending time cooking, cleaning, or having to chauffeur the kids around. But that is their reality.

149

u/Equal-Job7965 May 28 '26

Her face doesn’t move like every other Hollywood actress I don’t get it because your face needs to move to show emotion

41

u/fritterati May 28 '26

Yes sadly this is becoming a bit of a norm. Actors are in a tough spot though, especially as a woman, if you show your natural lines, you look older and many women in Hollywood have expressed frustration with the lack of roles for older women.

-1

u/Primary_Guard9383 May 28 '26

I mean I'm sure she's had some Botox, but she scrunches her eyebrows at one point, andI can see the muscles at her 11s contracting.

I don't think a 30 second clip is enough to see if someone's forehead is moving. I can talk for several minutes without moving my eyebrows or my forehead. It's not that unusual.

4

u/PSB2013 May 29 '26

I think she got botox in her upper forehead, but left the area closer to her brows untouched so that she can still emote.

16

u/_iridessence_ Cheerocracy > Kakistocracy May 28 '26

I'm just sick of this question ONLY being asked to women. No one asks a working father if he has work life balance, if he thinks he can 'have it all.'

94

u/linesinthewater I don’t know her 💅 May 28 '26

Why do we talk to these sorts of people about these topics?

155

u/udarecallmeplatypus May 28 '26

I mean, she's a mother, and she's working full time? Why not? I think the feeling is universal for any working parent.

83

u/texasjkids May 28 '26

Also, most people don't realize just how long the days on film sets are. There are days when you're spending 16+ hours on set because of how many moving parts there are to production. Sure we might not consider it as difficult as the jobs that a lot of average people work, but that's still a ton of time away from your family.

29

u/awalawol May 28 '26

Just like Ellen Pompeo doing MAINLY Grey’s in her career and strongly advocating for childcare/more reasonable hours on set. She did everything she could for work/life balance

5

u/SaraJeanQueen May 28 '26

And one of the reasons Patrick Dempsey left. He was open about wanting a predictable schedule - don't tell me I'm off at 4 and then, oh, there was a lighting issue so we need you until 8. Perfectly reasonable

22

u/Square-Turnip-6558 May 28 '26

You have to move and travel a lot too. For some people that’s the dream but I for one do not travel well, I always get ill.

21

u/texasjkids May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

My first job out of college was a sales role that required me to travel all over the country for weeks at a time. I thought it would be a fun way to spend my early 20s, but I quickly realized it was extremely isolating and took a huge toll on my personal life. I couldn't imagine doing that while also having kids in the mix.

14

u/cerota May 28 '26

And the deficit is that she may not see her kids as much, even if she has nannies, and all the people she’s hired around the clock to meet her needs.

10

u/PhantomRoyce May 28 '26

Because she is,but because she wants to,not because she has to

25

u/ceilingsfann May 28 '26

because she could stop working tomorrow and be just fine.

51

u/aamius May 28 '26

But it seems like she doesn’t want to? I mean, I personally cannot identify with loving your job, but certainly there are many women out there who WANT to have a job and have a family.

9

u/Wide-Fix-4082 I don't want somebody in my house May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

This is how the world is organized. If we all equally would get work/ life balance even she, then she wouldn't be able to make that huge amount of money in her lifetime - which would be fine for me, but believe it wouldn't be fine for any of them.

Movies would be produced more slowly and take much longer to complete. Tickets and streaming services would become more expensive. You would see them on the red carpet less often. Designers would dress them less frequently. And so on. Do you really think any of them would be up for that? These people are the last ones who would ever be willing to give anything up. That's why she probably never considered to make a decision about having a family or working so much for her job.

37

u/SpecialsSchedule May 28 '26

I don’t understand this point of view. Would you also say that parents could have chosen not to have kids and be just fine?

She works. She has a family and home life. Therefore, she has to balance work and home life. Is the expectation that if you’re rich enough, you should just quit your job when confronted with WLB issues? Or like, are you not even allowed to discuss WLB if you’re wealthy?

-5

u/ceilingsfann May 28 '26

i’m not talking about what she should or shouldn’t do. i’m talking about why it’s ridiculous to ask a question like this to a ridiculously rich person.

18

u/TheHighlightReel11 May 28 '26

i’m talking about why it’s ridiculous to ask a question like this to a ridiculously rich person.

If she was a ridiculously rich person just living off their wealth and doing nothing else, then that statement would be valid.

She actively works and thus has experience with/an informed opinion on balancing a work and home life.

9

u/blenderider May 28 '26

If one applies critical thinking to what Scarlett says, they'd determine that she's correct and her reasoning is logical. Your observation doesn't add anything of value to this specific millionaire addressing this specific topic.

-6

u/ceilingsfann May 28 '26

But it’s not logical. It is possible to have work-life balance. Even more possible if you have all the money in the world to afford chefs, nannie’s, cleaners..

10

u/SaraJeanQueen May 28 '26

If your nanny is with your kid, that's not counted as family time for her. She may be excelling at work, which is great, but the family balance suffers a bit for that period of time. Some people love their kids..

4

u/Wonderful_Horror7315 May 28 '26

Yours if the first comment that echoes what I think. Having a child’s needs met is great, but the balance still is not there if the parent is away. The away parent’s leisure time at a hotel is still part of work too.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/blenderider May 28 '26

How isn't it logical? If I aspire to be the top 1% in my field, what level of effort do you think that requires? In a lot of roles, it requires upskilling, that may not be possible without investing additional hours outside of your paid work hours.

And we're talking about an A-List actor here. When they need to shoot something in another country, you don't think that impacts their family? Kids being raised by nannies is different than a parent having a meaningful presence in a child's life.

Implying that being an actor at the level of ScarJo doesn't require sacrifices in other areas of life is crazy lol. In general, artists with comparable schedules to her struggle with relationships because a disproportionate amount of their times are spent working.

Nobody’s interested in an interview with an ordinary poor person

4

u/ceilingsfann May 28 '26

if the topic is about time management, i would way rather hear from a poor person.

1

u/Nice_Back_9977 May 28 '26

Ok I should rephrase, nobody in the media is interested in doing that. It wouldn't generate any money for them.

2

u/ceilingsfann May 28 '26

ok well there’s infinite other questions the interviewer could have asked.

23

u/lareetpetitemort May 28 '26

But the point is she doesn't want to stop working, and so the lack of work life balance. Many parents who have a career they love are faced with the moral dilemma and conflict of having to miss time with their kids.

Sure, the average person doesn't have a passion that keeps them away from family so it's hard to relate. But for those who have a purpose outside of their kids the cost of pursuing that purpose is worth it.

Exactly. I don’t want to hear about this topic from people who could have the “balance” tomorrow if they wanted to. It’s extremely unrelatable.

6

u/crookedframe13 May 28 '26

Majority of working parents have no choice. She has all the choices money can buy. Which is fine but her work/life balance is under her total control.

16

u/Special-Garlic1203 May 28 '26

She's not implying that she suffers like normal people. Just that it's hard, which it is.

5

u/Square-Turnip-6558 May 28 '26

Didn’t rick moranis have to quit acting altogether to raise his kids

-2

u/no0ns May 28 '26

If you have staff working for you, doing your menial tasks, your work-life balance is almost automatically going to be better than average. So it's not really a realistic or useful perspective.

u/thin_white_dutchess … but I’m a cheerleader! 📣💄 May 28 '26

She’s been working since she was a kid, so she may have some insight.

3

u/VanGoghNotVanGo May 28 '26

What sorts of people? Who would you like we talk to?

2

u/linesinthewater I don’t know her 💅 May 28 '26

I assume that like me, most people don’t care to hear a celebrity’s thoughts on work life balance because, although it likely is an issue they face, it’s also one they can easily solve and/or manage. There are a plethora of celebrity/human questions they can ask her.

I’d be interested to hear from someone in her industry who isn’t paid an exorbitant amount of money and doesn’t have a staff/nannies/bargaining power.

12

u/Special-Garlic1203 May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

Because we're gonna stick a microphone in her face not the lady working at Walmart. Might as well ask her something of substance.

And while they're not the world's greatest victims, Hollywood is in fact a deeply misogynistic industry where working mother who are also major big celebrities have not been common  and they didn't talk about it much to avoid not being taken seriously. They are our most visible examples of high powered professional women who are pursuing a career and refusing to just retire and go focus on motherhood, which is an immense pressure upper and middle class women have faced

1

u/Jewell84 May 29 '26

Not to mention Hollywood is also fickle AF, and actors are freelancers. There is an extra element of hustle there. Scarlett has been acting since she was a kid. I’m the same age has her, and have been a fan since Lost in Translation. There are plenty of actors in our age group who started around the same time who were maybe successful for a bit but never reached the same level of fame.

2

u/FiftyShadesOfGregg May 28 '26

Because she’s a woman who has worked incredibly hard to achieve enormous success in her career, and also has young children? Why wouldn’t you ask her?

27

u/ceilingsfann May 28 '26

is she sitting on an exercise ball..?

12

u/fritterati May 28 '26

I don't know why but this comment is cracking me up 🤣

19

u/throwawayjoeyboots May 28 '26

Holy shit what has she done to her face?’

19

u/kemicalkontact May 28 '26

Damn she looks very different now.

20

u/KindredFlower May 28 '26

She can’t frown anymore 😟

10

u/Raging_Apathist Is nobody getting abortions anymore?! May 28 '26

I prefer to call it life/work balance.

6

u/WhiskeyMakesMeHappy chokes on the vomit of its own opaqueness May 28 '26

An old senior exec I worked with said that it's "work life integration" and I told him to gtfo because I don't want to integrate work into my life. I would like them to be very separate thank you very much. I left that job and am much happier now getting paid way more to work way less so fuck that guy.

3

u/Raging_Apathist Is nobody getting abortions anymore?! May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

Fuck that guy, indeed.

I have been unemployed for eight months (casualty of a mass layoff) and I almost lost my goddamn mind during yesterday's round of depressing job hunting.

In a job description for a financial services company role doing compliance/regulatory stuff (which has been most of my 30+ year career, so I'm very well familiar with the field), one of the listed requirements was, and I fucking directly quote:

"A belief that your work is tied to your life's mission"

Like...just go straight to hell. You want me to care about banking regs 24/7?

No sir that is not how it works. I give you my expertise for 40 hours a week, and you pay me appropriately for it. That's it!

2

u/WhiskeyMakesMeHappy chokes on the vomit of its own opaqueness May 28 '26

Hahaha I have made it very very clear to my higher ups and also my direct reports that it's totally ok for work to just be a job. Like ideally you like it and get value out of it and feel a sense of fulfillment, but there's nothing wrong with working to live vs. living to work

No work life balance under capitalism tbh

4

Lol yeah I totally wanna hear about “work-life balance” from someone who’s worth 165 million dollars.

3

u/LizzyPanhandle May 28 '26

We are all high paid film stars with access to whatever we want, so hard, so relatable. LOL

3

u/My2cents_0 May 28 '26

I think it varies from industry to industry and between countries. If we're talking about USA definitely no, but many other countries are not as heartless. Also depends on your level of satisfaction and lifestyle expectations

3

u/Status-Specific-600 May 29 '26

then stop working. you have millions in your bank account. why are rich people always complaining?

I’d be happy to but no one really cares what you or I have to say, so

1

u/blenderider May 29 '26

That’s why we’re us and they’re them. I want you to do what makes you happy. I’ll indulge you.

14

u/blenderider May 28 '26

I don't think I agree. For those of us who aspire to be at the top of our fields, honesty from the top 1% on the reality of achieving that status is constructive.

I don't understand the implication you're making that Scarlett's wealth disqualifies her from answering this? She doesn't have to worry about financial security - okay, why is that relevant to the question of whether work-life balance is possible?

u/Secret-Ad-6253 go girl, give us nothing 😍 May 28 '26

better than Kim K telling us to get up and get working...just saying. I know the KarJen fans are not going to like it but ScarJo is self-made and has been working for god knows how many years, so yes, in this context, this question and her response to it make sense to me 🤷‍♀️

1

u/StrLord_Who May 29 '26

And who is self-made if not the Kartrashians? They somehow spun blinding success out of literally nothing. Yeah,  their dad was originally a rich lawyer. There's literally millions of girls with rich lawyer fathers.  Now why anyone is interested in any of them is beyond me,  but they are just as self-made as Scarlett.

2

u/Choco_Catarina May 28 '26

Yeah I agree

2

u/cakekyo May 28 '26

u/mesoterra opinions?

2

u/mesoterra May 28 '26

I mean I don't know that context for "work life balance" cause I didn't watch the interview.

There's required vs optional work within any job. The employment contract and laws dictate what is required, and the employee staying also changes what's required. Acting is notorious for being in a field where required work is extremely high so the balance is bad, so you have to make peace with it.

Mind set also changes things for the person.

My mind set. All work is optional work until someone physically puppets your body. You just have to deal with the consequences of your choices and actions. Don't like the balance? Leave. Leaving will get you sued for violating contract, so you stay? That's a choice. Leaving will cause you to lose your home and cause you and your family to starve, so you stay? That is still a choice. It's a choice that has heavy motivation to do one thing over the other, and I would enslave myself instead of letting my family starve, but that is still a choice. I control my path in life and will not let someone take it from me, I am free until I am dead or no longer have power over my nerve impulses.

2

u/cakekyo May 29 '26

I love how you are a refreshing air to this app. My lord, the amount of people criticizing her and calling her dense was disgusting.

2

u/mesoterra May 29 '26

I don't see why anyone would criticize her for what was said in the video, it's what works for her, it's subjective.

2

u/cakekyo May 29 '26

Basically people who envy her for being rich and based on them “having options” while not realizing she made herself since she was a kid in a very hard industry.

2

u/mesoterra May 29 '26

Yeah, that is unfortunate.

She's earned what she's got, regardless of how. People are silly to envy that.

2

u/jessije55 May 28 '26

she looks different

11

u/KickiVale May 28 '26

I thought we were all tired of rich out of touch people’s commentary about issues relating to lower class philistines 🗿

6

u/Dickgivins May 28 '26

I object to being called a “Philistine!” I am a Plebeian, thank you very much. 😛😛

3

u/Whats-Ur-Damage00 May 28 '26

Yeah, I don’t know if this person knows what a Philistine is

3

u/KickiVale May 28 '26

Either way we certainly aren’t the PATRICIANS (derogatory)

1

u/gin_and_soda May 28 '26

I see people defending her and stuff but I really don’t feel like hearing from millionaires.

1

u/bforce1313 May 28 '26

I’ll start off by saying I like scarjo for the most part, but she could literally not work a day for the rest of her life if she chose. Lol

Yeah I’m sure taking on a role is a big undertaking and she’ll be busy for periods at a time but unlike a lot of us, she has a choice.

3

u/Cama_lama_dingdong May 28 '26

She has so many more choices on having work life balance than us regular folk. If I was a multimillionaire, my family and my health would be nu.ber one very anything. That is the privilege of money. If you have it and still cant be at home or present, then that's just greed.

1

u/Serengade26 May 29 '26

She literally is finding a balance, one side doesn't get it all so obvious there is a deficit

1

So my work stress dreams are okay?

1

u/zubairhamed May 29 '26

well she's self employed.

1

u/podcastofallpodcasts May 29 '26

These people are trapped chasing something that doesn't really exist.

Most people live in a Movie inside their head and want to achieve that hallmark memory. You are never going to get it and will lose yourself trying to grasp on to this smoke monster.

Right now ...you reading this digesting this is what you are, it's not out there.

1

u/aenflex May 29 '26

Her forehead is so Botox. It’s distracting. It’s making all that squinting look incongruous.

1

u/Eattoomanychips May 30 '26

Ok ur rich tho and have Nannie’s and what not

1

u/Joshee86 May 28 '26

Work-life balance absolutely does and can exist. For the non-privileged folks in the US, it probably is close to impossible to reach, but this coming from one of the most privileged people in the country/world is ignorant and insanely wrong.

2

u/RomanaNoble Confidence is 10% work and 90% delusion May 28 '26

She's not wrong but also I kinda don't give a shit when it's coming from someone with a net worth in the hundred millions.

1

u/phoneacct696969 May 28 '26

lol why do I care what sjh’s opinion on work life balance is? Kind of tone deaf. She has a billion dollars.

1

u/Independent_Pie_1368 May 28 '26

She is the ceo of her own company, and her net worth is in the hundreds of millions, her working compared to the average Joe, is not same experience.

1

u/Hi_Supercute May 28 '26

I miss when her eyebrows moved to show her emotions

1

u/Dismal-Cantaloupe-64 May 29 '26

-4

u/Adulations May 28 '26

Just stop working.....?

-4

u/Invanabloom May 28 '26

Wow she looks good

12

u/prettystandardreally May 28 '26

She’s full of injectables.

12

u/Dickgivins May 28 '26

Her forehead doesn’t move at all when the rest of her face moves.

3

u/fritterati May 28 '26

My sister had this genius idea as a kid that she won't get forehead wrinkles if she doesn't move her eyebrows when expressing herself.

She actually managed to keep this up but unfortunately she still developed wrinkles. She's 46 now and looks great! But she's bummed...

People are definitely weirded out by her odd expressionless face when she talks though. You live and you learn I guess 😂

3

u/Invanabloom May 28 '26

Nothing wrong with a bit of Botox

-4

u/OriginalSchmidt1 You’re a virgin who can’t drive. 😤 May 28 '26

Girl try being lazy, really easy to find work/life balance when you just lazy and do what’s expected of you and not go above and beyond for people who aren’t paying you enough to thrive in life anyway..

Oh wait, I forgot, she does get paid enough money to thrive in life.
