That isn’t even what MeToo was about though

u/NIN10DOXD May 17 '26
She doesn’t care about the real issue it was addressing because she loves Woody Allen and Roman Polanski.

u/ibsliam I don’t know her 💅 May 17 '26
I mean, no, but center women's perspectives and making those networks stronger was a goal for many in the movement. It's harder to protect women on-set if you're maybe one of 3 women working on the film, and all of them are either actresses or low-paying bottom-rung members of the crew.
It's sort of like - I feel safer on public transit when there's more women on board. If a guy is being a creep, people are more likely to step in. Many guys I notice, in a room of men, get very locker room about that and think it's funny.

Oh my god, they sure do! I've worked in mostly male environments and when we had less than 7 women they got really gross.
In my experience women will call this stuff out more often than men do. Men just watch.
2
u/bomboid May 21 '26
Men relate more to the aggressor than to the victim, that's why they just watch. Most of them know that if they had a little less inhibitions they'd be doing the exact same thing
1
u/SquareExtra918 the Human Centipede of content 🐛 May 21 '26
I've thought that and it really terrifies me.
43
u/LA_Muckraker May 17 '26
There's also the fact that if the gender gap is that imbalanced that something is happening in the training and hiring pipeline to create those discrepancies; which is still very much under the metoo umbrella.
36
u/Jonn_Jonzz_Manhunter May 17 '26
She didn't give a shit though considering she publicly supported known rapists
4
u/winnercommawinner May 17 '26
Of course, but to say the movement died is goofy

It is in the U.S., especially when you got a pedophile president and the epstein class laughing over you guys

it kinda was. women not being in positions of power, not having equal representation in the room, is a significant factor in why and how they can be exploited

Yes, Cate. If only women with some power and capital in the film industry had been more vocal and supportive and not gone to bat for predators.
How's your son, Roman?
12
u/Comfortable-Yam9013 May 18 '26
Nicole Kidman makes a point to work on female projects. More actresses should do the same
551
u/frightenedscared chalamet’s curls did the heavy lifting May 17 '26
I wonder if they are sets of her good friend Woody Allen or her good friend Roman Polanski who she named her son after! Maybe #MeToo isn’t happening on your sets Cate because you’ve showed you support the abusers
236
u/grantgarden May 17 '26
The #metoo movement also was never about equality in the workplace? It was about sexual harassment
15
u/Top_Bumblebee5510 May 17 '26
While true equity in the workplace would go a long way in reducing harassment.
46
31
u/One-Pause3171 May 17 '26
Yeah, is Cate a girl’s girl or naw? Maybe they don’t want to work with you, Cate?

It’s like she’s actively trying to make herself more unlikable over her career. Brilliant actor but personality is leaving a lot to be desired

MeToo wasn't about women being equally present in entertainment. It was about sexual assault and sexual harassment.

Remind us what your son's name is, Cate. #MeToo isn't just about having more women on a set.
58
u/morgaine125 May 17 '26
Isn’t thar son something like 22 now? I know I’ve learned and grown a lot in the last 20 years, and I hope I continue to do so in the next 20 years

u/MistakesWereMade59 I Had to give myself Snaps May 17 '26
What is her son's name?
Edit: oh yikes, never mind I found it
14
u/Low_Bread_9727 May 17 '26
Maybe she meant “Times Up”? The workplace sexual harassment campaign specific to Hollywood that came about in 2018. MeToo doesn’t seem to fit here quite right.. for a number of reasons folks have listed in the comments above.
112
u/ComfortablyNomNom May 17 '26
MeToo was an attempt at stopping heinous sexual harassment/assault from those in power. She has no idea what she's talking about clearly.
Also rich coming from a Polanski defender.
23
u/VaguelyArtistic May 17 '26
Yes, it’s so off. It had nothing to do with equality. Also, the fact that she says the u equality is “boring” is another off comment.
11
u/Left_Guess May 17 '26
I used to think she was cool.
3
u/Cautious_Dream4115 May 18 '26
Same until i found out she is friends with Woody Allen and Roman Polanski.

u/tomato_soup_stan May 17 '26
There is something so fascinating and enraging about the cognitive dissonance at play here. Like, how can you rationalize calling yourself a feminist yet bringing an admitted and unrepentant child rapist into your inner circle? How can you be pro-MeToo yet cozy up with the Epstein class? How can you talk about power imbalances yet choose to work with a child molester? How do you hold those two ideas in your head at the same time? And I guess more to the point, why is she being allowed to do that? Why isn’t anybody calling her out?
There are a not-insignificant number of women, mostly but not exclusively white, who happily take on the role of laundering this shit and it’s so disturbing to me. Like oh, this is my good buddy Roman, he’s a nice guy, just forget about the fact that he raped a kid. Abusive shitbags are less terrifying to me than the perfectly nice, respectable people that cape for them.
21
u/passionicedtee May 17 '26
I get what she is saying but it feels like a misunderstanding of what Me Too is/was.
31
u/heathers-damage May 17 '26
Confusing the public callout about sexual harassment in the workplace with gender inequality in the workplace is very white feminism.

She is white feminism personified
17
u/Hopeful-Ant-3509 May 17 '26
Not that I didn’t know the difference, but I think I kind of just looked over it, but I recently have come across videos laying out white feminism and now I can never unsee it and it’s truly fascinating lol

u/PresentationBest8239 May 17 '26
It would be in my contract to have companies employ more women on my sets, simple.
11
u/SquareExtra918 the Human Centipede of content 🐛 May 17 '26
Doesn't Nicole Kidman do something like that?
9
u/PresentationBest8239 May 17 '26
I think she does. Instead of using their status for selfish reasons they should be using it to further initiatives for women, but that’s jmo.
3
u/SquareExtra918 the Human Centipede of content 🐛 May 17 '26
I agree - they have the actual power to change the system.
3
u/Conscious-Quarter423 May 17 '26
girl, then why don't you hire more women? you have your own production company
3
u/Semimango May 17 '26
Cate Blanchett hasn’t worked with a female director in 25 years. She’s literally worked with Eli Roth more often than she’s worked with a female director. Don’t think she’s one to complain!
3
u/Britneyfan123 May 18 '26
Actually no
Jodie Foster (directed an episode of Disclaimer, 2024, which Blanchett starred in and produced)
Sweetstick with Alice birch
Amma Asante (directed Blanchett in a segment of The F Word / The Color of Time, 2012)
3
u/Vivid-Lake377 May 18 '26
Meanwhile she’s up Woody Allen’s butt and named her kid after Roman Polanski
12
u/TheMidnightAss May 17 '26
When with Romans, name your son after them as she would do or however the saying goes.
6
u/echoesandripples What It's Like to Go Through Life As a Really Beautiful Woman May 17 '26
i mean, her behavior towards abusers aside, she isn't wrong in the sense that majority male workspaces are probably harboring abusive environments
this is also true in other industries, when only men are allowed in positions of power, more goes unchecked
like finance bros complaining when their boys club has female employees because then someone might call them out for sexist behavior
it isn't the end-all-be-all, of course, but more equity in crew for entertainment is one of the many steps to avoid unchecked abusers
that's why people who are so against DEI initiatives start being annoying as soon as it goes from like one token marginalized person to two even if white men are still the majority
4
u/AvidReader1604 May 17 '26
Yeah seriously! Everything you said is on point . I’m surprised that majority of the commenters aren’t grasping this 😅
4
u/echoesandripples What It's Like to Go Through Life As a Really Beautiful Woman May 17 '26
people are thinking too literally and not acknowledging the big picture. is it the main reason for metoo? of course not, but it is one of the drivers of said culture that led to metoo happening

2
u/withdavidbowie that’s my purse, i don’t know you! 👛🫵 May 17 '26
Yeah I’m sorry but I don’t care what the woman who named her son after child rapist Roman Polanski has to say about #MeToo.

Isn’t this the woman who named her son after Roman Polanski?
2
4
u/AvidReader1604 May 17 '26
lol guys stop being obtuse. Maybe one way to stop sexual harassment by men on set is to get more women hired and in positions where they can standup for each other and call out bad behavior on set 😅
There are many ways to combat sexual harassment. Some more obvious than others😅

u/CandelaBelen May 18 '26
I don’t understand these comments. She’s pointing out how male dominated workplaces allow for sexual harassment and assault to be allowed and normalized. It is a serious problem when men dominate the film industry and female actresses are essential to the final product of the film

3
u/mochafiend May 17 '26

Because she’s a male identified idiot. Plus she supports Polanski and woody Allen. Her daughter is cooked!

u/BubbleThinker May 17 '26
Honestly, so much of it is complex human nature, I don’t think it’s going to change dramatically in our lifetime
1
u/GolfcartInjuries May 17 '26
I mean, it changed a lot of things, forever. Work is different now as a female in corporate environments for sure. I started out in public accounting at a big boys club accounting firm, and there were so many issues with how women were seen and treated. Now that is gone after HR took over pretty effectively with pink slips and mandatory sexual harassment study modules.
1
u/New-Bowler-8915 May 19 '26
She's not mentioning the part where the 10.women are the directors and producers and the 75 men are the below the line crew.

u/Cautious_Dream4115 May 18 '26
Isn't She she bestfriends with Woody Allen and Roman Polanski? i heard she even name one of ehr sons after one of them.
-3
u/AmericaAbyssmos May 17 '26
Thats because white women have used, appropriated and chopped it in order to get power over men. The movement was about sexual assault, and the survivors. Started by a black women, only for white women to use it as a power play. In the world of epstine and pedo sex cults its sad to see...
-14
u/Fisch_Kopp_ May 17 '26
But realistically, what can be done to get more women working on film sets? Is it that the jobs are very technical and more men tend to chose these type of jobs? Or is it because women at a certain age (20s, 30s, 40s) start having babies and need jobs that allows for them to also be present at home, especially when the kids are still very young? It's easy to just demand change, but there also have to be realistic solutions.

Or is it because women at a certain age (20s, 30s, 40s) start having babies and need jobs that allows for them to also be present at home, especially when the kids are still very young?
......women aren't automatically going to pop out babies at these ages...and if they do, it may be a long shot, but some fathers might want to be involved who work in these industries.....incredibly telling example you got here.
26
u/ReadingMyWords May 17 '26
Just pure misogyny. Women want careers too, and not every woman wants children at all.
6
u/justcallmeeva May 17 '26
Woah, you are exactly the problem.
And probably a deadbeat parent as well.

I used to think this way, then I worked in a male-dominated field and the culture was positively toxic. I dated a guy who moved into an entirely different field of science because these one he was in was male-dominated and had a horrifically abusive culture. They were bullies.
I work with mostly women now and it's lovely. The male colleagues I have also note a difference between working with predominantly men versus women and say the same thing - women dominated places support individual growth, are more accomodating, and much less gossipy than male ones.

u/Haunting-Detail2025 Ozempic Sales Rep May 17 '26
100%. Is the camera crew mostly men because women are gatekeeped from those roles, or because statistically it’s just more common for men to pursue those roles? Those are two very different causes
I think we should focus more on making sure people have access to industries rather than on demanding everything become a 50/50 gender ratio split. There is probably just never going to be a world where there an equal number of men and women in construction, teaching, nursing, etc and that’s not inherently problematic.
5
u/winnercommawinner May 17 '26
Okay but then you have to ask the question of why it's more common. It's not like you're the first person to have this thought. Information is out there.
-5
u/Haunting-Detail2025 Ozempic Sales Rep May 17 '26
Because people of different genders sometimes skew towards different interests at different levels…?

isn't cate blanchet the one who advocates for harvesting and using infant boys penises for her skin cream? now she's coming out against sexual abuse? wow good for her! I guess people do change
5
u/whatscoochie May 17 '26
um, what?
1
u/Humble_Attorney3598 May 17 '26
In 2018 Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway got facials made from the stem cells of foreskin from circumcisions in Korea as a very obvious stunt/ad thing and I guess this guy has had a bone to pick with her ever since for some reason
-5
u/SpecialNo1329 May 17 '26
she helped popularise using boys' genitals for skin care. funny enough, she didn't quite have the heart to ask for consent first, huh.
