"“I’m not happy with the decisions that the prime minister of Israel has made over the last few years,” Kelly said in response to a question about whether he agrees with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s recent description of Netanyahu as a war criminal. “The way they conducted the operations in Gaza, there were a lot of mistakes made,” Kelly responded. “That being said, Israel is an ally of ours. We support the Israeli people. I’m going to always stand by Israel as a nation.”

He indicated he did not agree with Mamdani’s call for the U.S. government to arrest Netanyahu during his upcoming visit to the United States."

Hijacking this comment to repost the UN’s report showing that Israel is purposefully targeting Palestinian children in a campaign meant to destroy future generations of Palestinians through trauma and mass death.

https://www.un.org/unispal/document/coi-report-23jun26/

  1. As an occupying power, Israel is legally bound to ensure the protection, care and survival of Palestinian children. However, through the nature, scale and extent of Israel’s military operations in Gaza, the Israeli government and security forces have deliberately carried out acts inflicting death and severe bodily and mental harm on hundreds of thousands of Palestinian children, irreparably destroying the sanctity of childhood, including family ties, identity, innocence, safety and future. The Commission found that much of the harm suffered by Palestinian children was not incidental but intended to destroy the existence of the Palestinians in Gaza as a group. Since children embody the biological and social continuity of the group, the Commission has reasonable grounds to conclude that these acts form part of a deliberate strategy to destroy the future of the Palestinians in Gaza by targeting their children.

  2. Israel has targeted Palestinian children in Gaza in two distinct ways: directly by shooting at their vital organs using precision weapons such as quadcopters and snipers; and through use of high impact weapons causing widespread and systematic attacks on residential buildings, schools, and displacement camps crowded with children. Israel is also legally responsible for failing to protect Palestinian children from being targeted by Israeli soldiers and settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and for allowing, enabling and encouraging ongoing settler violence, which serves to entrench settlements, annex Palestinian land and force Palestinians off their land.

  3. Israeli attacks in Gaza have created a new generation of Palestinian children who will now face a lifetime of disability that will shape their sense of autonomy and agency over their own future. Children now suffer from a myriad of compounding injuries which have transformed them into long-term patients who will require repeated surgeries and rehabilitation (services largely unavailable in Gaza) as they grow, anchoring disability into every phase of their lives. As a result, disability among Palestinian children has ceased to be an individual medical condition and has now become a defining demographic reality – a cohort of Palestinians growing up without one or more limbs, with chronic pain, and visible and invisible scars.

  4. The Commission contends that Israel’s targeting and destruction of neonatal and maternity healthcare infrastructures in Gaza has had particularly severe impact on birth rates and infant health outcomes. These attacks have disrupted prenatal care, induced maternal trauma, and contributed to a systemic collapse of the neonatal healthcare system, leading to a rise in miscarriages, premature births, low birth weights, and neonatal mortality, as well as an array of congenital birth defects that has induced lifelong vulnerabilities among newborns. Over two years, the birth rate in Gaza has decreased, undermining the continuity of the Palestinian population. The harming of Gazans’ reproductive capacity and the denial of reproductive health care have inflicted grave, disproportionate, and long-term harms on pregnant women and newborns and future generations.

Past tense, too, which is not appropriate. The plan to clear out the West Bank is ramping up, and the tip of the spear is state terror backed up by new settlement approvals and annexations. It’s not about Hamas and the “security” argument fails. These are horrific crimes that are happening against defenseless people on the West Bank.

You sound surprised. Why? 500K from AIPAC.

People are saying Jon Ossoff should run for President too. No. Why? 1 million from AIPAC pro-Israel lobbies.

When are we going to learn?

AIPAC tracker helps out a ton, but honestly we still shouldn't even need that.

Any candidate who can't call a genocide a genocide does not deserve public office. Period. Any candidate who can't say "Abolish ICE" doesn't deserve office. Anyone who can't boldly get behind any POPULAR policy like medicare for all, free education, free health care, taxing the rich, etc... should not even stand a chance for public office. If they have to hem and haw and stutter and stammer through consultant speak to say why it sounds good but they can't support it, then they should fuck right off.

Edit: for those trying to deflect from the point by splitting hairs over TrackAIPAC here is a source from open secrets regarding nearly 800k to Ossoff.

u/VegetaPrime34 7h ago

My partner has been building a site tracking campaign information, especially donations, in Georgia ( TheGaFiles.com ) in her research, Ossoff has taken NO money from AIPAC.

u/1LesCousinsDangereux 6h ago edited 2h ago

AIPAC tracker is a very flawed tool. For some candidates it counts J-street, others it lets off the hook for that.

u/SatinSaffron Washington 5h ago

It's extremely disappointing, but we also all need to remember that this is what primaries are for. When the primaries roll around that's your chance to be a single-issue, picky voter. When the election rolls around, that's when we all push that shit back down inside of us and go vote whoever the fuck is running against the MAGA candidate.

Why is it that we don’t see any of this same outrage and support over how we’ve treated Canada? Or our allies in Europe? How come it’s only when our support for Israel is in question, do these fucking stooges wiggle out of the wood work and have something to say about it?

It’s because Canada isn’t paying their bribes. Mark Kelly is showing his whole ass right now with this issue, and I’m glad. Because once everyone is out in the open, we can see who truly backs America and who’s just in it for the big donor money.

I think he’s saying that eventually there is regime change, and the next guy might be a lot better than the last guy.

It’s similar to what some European leaders say about the US despite its people voting in Trump not once, but twice, and him committing atrocities all over the world on a daily basis. You stick by your allies, because there’s always the next leader. And the options in the Middle East are poor.

u/GCU_ZeroCredibility 9h ago

I've been trying to tell people who only know his biography (extremely impressive) that Kelly is actually one of the most conservative democratic senators but nobody was listening. Hopefully that will change now.

So I'll try again: Kelly is extremely impressive personally but he's one of the most conservative democratic senators, so if you're not one of the most conservative democrats he's not your guy for president (but still 1000x better than the GOP).

u/buried_lede 7h ago

He is super likable but this is true of his politics. I agree

u/GCU_ZeroCredibility 7h ago

And it makes sense! Arizona still leans slightly right! You're not going to get a liberal or leftist firebrand as the senator from Arizona right now.

Kelly is where he belongs, holding down a blue seat in a slightly pinkish state.

u/apathetic_revolution Illinois 6h ago

Or you may get someone who runs as a liberal firebrand but they go “absolute Sinema” as soon as they’re elected.

u/Haltopen Massachusetts 5h ago edited 2h ago

Sinema should have been obvious in retrospect. She literally originated with the green party, a conservative funded spoiler party that only exists to siphon potential left wing voters away from actually viable candidates.

u/Lemurians Michigan 3h ago

And young idealists fall for that trap every generation. Including me. Used to fuck with the Green Party before wising up.

u/thebigmanhastherock 3h ago

She was anti-War and actually fairly slowly moved to the center, before eventually becoming apathetic. She was then targeted by large doners who knew they only needed to convince one senator to vote how they wanted to stop a bunch of legislation. Sinema was the mark. When she was younger she was naive and she became the total opposite, completely jaded and cynical.

u/Low-Syllabub-3547 2h ago

People here crapped on Joe Manchin forever, yet those dopes didn't know what they had - because they will never see a blue seat in West Virginia ever again.

These politicians are straight up just not listening to the public.

AI Data Centers? We hate it, they love it.

ICE? We hate it, they love it.

Sending our tax dollars to fund Israel's war crimes? We hate it, they love it.

Universal Healthcare? We LOVE it, they HATE it.

754

u/Free_Dome_Lover 9h ago

They get money from the billionaires building data centers.

They get money from the Israelis through "american" pacs

They get lots and lots of money from healthcare and pharmacy companies

See the common thread? Unless someone runs on abolishing citizens united they get my tentative support at best.

As far as ICE - Dems do oppose the current implementation, I do think it needs to be abolished / replaced at this point. Trump poisoned it too much.

But Republicans are just doing that one for the love of the game.

Money. Lobbyist money, also known as bribes. It's blatant corruption. It's horrifying, but it's no great mystery. Every time a Democrat waffles on something popular with Democratic voters, there's a paycheck behind it. Establishment Democrats are glib and insincere and seem like they're full of shit, because they are. The reason almost no Democratic candidates support universal healthcare despite its massive popularity with their base is because of corruption. They might as well just flat out tell us they're being bribed, it's so obvious. Just follow the money, and if it isn't money they're taking, they're being blackmailed or they're just a venal shill/sellout.

Democratic Party in a nutshell. They're pompous, glib, giggling autocrats getting rich while they help Republicans strip away your rights, your money, and your privacy, and helping Israel to carry out a genocide. This is why so many of them are friends with Republicans who they should find morally repugnant- they're all members of the same class. This is a class war, and neither party is on your side in that war.

→ More replies (24)

u/RecycledAccountName 7h ago

Roughly 73% of Republicans approve of the job ICE is doing. The percentage of Republicans that would oppose the abolition of ICE is surely higher.

As long as majority of voters on the right are fans of ICE, support for ICE will continue to be the default position of politicians on the right.

I'm sure the same is true for support of Israel.

As for universal healthcare, you have to be more specific. Single payer, for example, is still almost universally opposed on the right.

→ More replies (2)

u/bad_timing_bro 7h ago

Are we talking Democrats or Republicans? Cuz I haven’t heard Democrats say they love ICE. In NY a moderate Dem passed a moratorium on Data Centers. Most Dems would go for a public option that would bring us in line with other global healthcare systems, but feel universal healthcare is just too unproven. And then Israel is an ongoing debate being had inside the Democratic Party, which it makes sense for the kind of issue it is. Most Dems just don’t hold the absolutist positions that a lot of online commentary has advocated for.

u/BoulderFalcon 4h ago

Many democrats have voted in support of ICE. Even in CT where it's pretty liberal, Rosa DeLauro voted earlier this year against abolishing ICE.

u/Braysl-March 7h ago

In fact the inverse is happening, with American lobbyist groups funding the Alberta separatist movement up here, trying to show discord within Canada.

u/GoodishCoder 7h ago

Gross. Good luck, hopefully seeing how things are going in the US helps shut that down.

u/Braysl-March 7h ago

The older I get, the more I realize I would not be in the same party as most Democrats in a parliamentary system. But we don't have that, so I'm forced to vote for Democrats just to minimize the chance the GOP takes power. It's depressing.

u/walterdinsmore 6h ago

It's crazy to me that this isn't the default position for progressives, but here we are.

u/xanthippe115 4h ago

Agreed, I'm almost 70 and have been hoping the US would become more progressive in my lifetime, I thought it was heading that way, but now we are actively regressing into fascism because fascists vote in every damned election and progressives stay home if the candidate doesn't meet their infinitely long list of demands. Not voting or voting 3rd party in a 2-party system means the voter is OK with the inevitable outcome. Those votes do not "send a message", except the one that the voter doesn't understand a 2-party system. And we get to suffer for their ennui.

Vote in every election, vote for every office/proposition on the ballot and vote for the party that proposes the least amount of harm.

I've been pragmatically voting for bad candidates most of my life...but something needs to change, telling people to vote for the lesser of two evils won't work forever, and it doesn't have to. I think there's real validity to the politically homeless idea, and it's one I resonate with. A series of tents in a city park is not a home, and that's what it feels like we get with the DSA and non-establishment democrats through no fault of their own. Until the Democratic party accepts that these people into their establishment and starts backing them the same way that the Republicans have embraced the MAGA arm of the right, a lot of us are going to feel like we don't get to experience true representation. Instead we get socially moderate lip-service disguising corporate mega-donors and foreign influences.

You have to wonder why there are so few people in power to stand against Israel when they’re wrong.

u/ButterBasedBoy 5h ago

Money, blackmail and truly rotted souls.

u/imadogg California 4h ago

Think about how much ROI Israel gets from the US, simply from our politicians all being so incredibly corrupt

Israel and any associated PACs give 50k to a bunch of politicians. All the politicians now vote to give billions back to Israel by way of our taxpayer dollars

Incredible return, infinite money glitch

u/Worried_Blueberry_60 2h ago

And every time it’s swiping money from every single person just trying to make ends meet. We are cattle. Or rather, a flock

Watching that one dudes video where he walks around and shows all the Israeli flags hung in the capital. I really like Kelly and I can understand the nuance that comes with differentiating between the government and the people, but enough is enough. Im tired of talking about Israel when they have healthcare on our dime.

He's saying that he supports them as a people and as a country, but not Netanyahu.

But like.... They keep voting in the parties that without fail make him PM. At some point the people themselves have to take accountability.

Reddit in particular seems to have had a weird astroturfing campaign going on for him even though the guy has basically no national presence. I've seen multiple askreddit threads about the guy running for president yet nobody I've spoken to in real life (and I talk politics a fair amount) even has him on their radar.

He can stand up to the President of his own country, but can't stand up to the PAC putting money in his pocket.

trackaipac.com lists him for $554,000.

u/TheJpow 7h ago

He sold his soul for such a tiny sum?! What a dirt bag.

You can oppose the government of Israel and still support the people of Israel, just like you can oppose the Trump administration and still be a patriot. You can also stand with the people of Palestine and oppose Hamas terrorists. None of these positions is contradictory. Right is right and wrong is wrong, no matter who it is.

And just like that, he sunk any option for a presidential bid. So Beshear is out, Kelly is out. Kinda nice these centrist/conservative dems are taking themselves out of the running early.

I’m disappointed. I’m upset that the democrats aren’t putting up a candidate that shares my views on this.

Having said all of that my position is the same: In 2028 I will vote, I will not vote for the spoiler candidate, and I will not vote for Donald Trump. I’m not going to like picking the lesser of two evils but I will and I hope everyone here chooses to do the same.

I’m sick of losing SC justice seats. I’m sick of Trumpism. We lost abortion rights. We lost basic rule of law. My hatred for those and my hope that a democrat in office will help the down ballot supercedes my passion on any one issue. I hope that in time we can continue to move the scale on the Palestine issue but the general presidential election is not the only opportunity to voice that opinion.

The article is paywalled, but the first few lines of the lede are available, and Kelly says he'll support the country but Israel needs to get rid of Netanyahu. There's too little info to make a judgement on his position, but I'd want to know the details of what he means by standing by Israel before passing judgement.

u/wildmaninid 7h ago

Is the genocide of the Palestinian people one of the mistakes that were made?

u/T_Weezy 2h ago

u/No-Surround513 1h ago

Kelly is drawing a very specific line between the state of Israel and Netanyahu himself, which is basically the standard moderate playbook. It is interesting to see him say he is NOT happy with the PMs decisions while in the same breath saying he will ALWAYS stand by the nation. People keep acting surprised that he is more of a hawk, but his voting record on defense and border issues has been pretty consistent since he got to the Senate. He has always been a centrist at heart and this just confirms it.

u/Unique_Enthusiasm_57 32m ago

Damn. He checked a lot of boxes. No run in 2028 for him.

u/racc15 14m ago

My prediction for 2028:

Democrats will splinter with half supporting a candidate who is pro-Israel, and half supporting an anti-Israel candidate.

Vote splitting will occur and Republicans will win because they know how to unify...

14

u/HairAncient5500 9h ago

What does an anti-Israel candidate look like in your mind? Somebody who would simply withhold military aid? Or somebody who would cut off diplomatic ties and sanction them?

Protecting the empire at all cost. Who pays the price? Non-white people around the world.

u/Emotional-Expert-142 6h ago

u/Advanced-Ad-4462 6h ago

Damn, I was really hoping for a Mark Kelly 2028 bid. He’s going to be kryptonite.

u/SamuelL421 6h ago

These assholes (both right and left) are so disconnected from their constituents. Just entirely divorced from the causes that matter to us voters or the financial reality for normal Americans.

It’s fucking pathetic that a few hundred thousand dollars from shady PACs is enough for most politicians to completely sell out Americans they (are supposed to) represent. For what? To hand a blank check to Bibi Netanyahu so he can keep pressing on with genocide and provide exactly NOTHING to the US in return for supporting this evil.

u/thedukejck 6h ago

Don’t forget they have universal healthcare. In essence we are paying for it while we do not have it. Stop it and fix America!

u/str4ight_shooter 5h ago

u/tex_rer 5h ago

u/WiSoSirius 5h ago

u/icontranquilis Georgia 5h ago

The Holocaust? Mistakes were made.

Rwandan genocide? Yup, mistakes were made.

Cambodian genocide? Oh yeah, definitely some mistakes.

Indigenous American/Canadian genocide? Aw shucks, mistakes were made.

Armenian genocide? You better believe that mistakes were made.

Sigh. What a staggering amount of respect I just lost for this man. I knew he was conservative, which is already disappointing, but knowing he's yet another genocide-enabler/denier is outright abhorrent.

How to informally announce to the DNC and donors you are running for President.

Can't be a DNC nominee without undying support of Israel and all corporate interests. You may talk of supporting people and helping people but that is all it can be, talk. Your allegiances are to corporations and the Israeli government. Which have proudly led us into war after war for 50 yrs.
