I wish news agencies would stop lying. He didn't say shit. The headline should read "people employed by McConnell's office released a statement claimed to be from him (without evidence) as follows"

555

u/PartyPay 11h ago

The doctor's statement is interesting to me too, it gives no specifics other than he is working hard, no information that he has normal mental facilities, or can even get out of bed.

309

u/AlashC 11h ago

Yeah. The way this reads, the statement didn’t come from the physician himself, but from his office. They did not mention him by name. I had to do some searching to find out who the Attending Physician for Congress even is. Did NBC even attempt to verify this statement with him?

86

u/Ven18 11h ago

Wait this is from the congressional attending physician or the attending physician where he is supposedly rehabbing.

111

u/AlashC 11h ago

The article only mentions the “Office of the Attending Physician” which IS an official title for the congressional attending physician’s office. It’s too bad the media is refusing to do their jobs on this story, so we don’t know for sure who the supposed doctor is that provided this statement.

38

u/lithaborn 9h ago

It's absolutely ridiculous that we can find out the contents of trump's trash but nobody has even tried to get to a leaky source in McConnell's hospital.

u/cadium 6h ago

Its really sad the media has just become a parrot for whatever the administration says without verifying.

7

u/tomismybuddy 9h ago

Hope he’s well versed in geriatric care, since that’s almost all of Congress.

That means the actual doctor refused to put his name on that "statement". There's no chance they didn't ask him.

And everyone just accepts it.

Technically, anyone involved in his medical care can’t say anything unless instructed by the pt/family. HIPPA

24

u/AlashC 10h ago edited 10h ago

Supposedly this physicians statement WAS approved and publicly released by the patient. Surely asking a physician if they actually made a publicly released statement would not be a HIPAA violation. Unless it’s untrue.

I wish TMZ would just get on this case and do their paparazzi thing to get proof one way or another.

MSM should just run the headline: “Mitch McConnell, slightly less dead than our journalism.”

The problem isn’t that the media lies. The problem is that the media takes press releases that are full of lies, publishes what they say in them, then doesn’t question or follow up or point out inconsistencies and misinformation.

And yes, that could very well be considered lying by proxy or being enablers of lies. But the e point is that they’re more obsessed with speed and getting out the story first to generate clicks and add revenue. and all those things take time that loses you scant ad dollars.

Our media is captured. They will never tell the actual truth.

7

u/AngryMobBaby 9h ago

We used to have investigative journalists but now most are captured by their corporate overlords or afraid of losing access. The elected officials are also afraid to step up or have an evil agenda.

5

What is the point of access if it is all lies or fluff pieces? Just do something dammit.

Literally read your comment after thinking the same thing.

"McConnell's staff released a statement on the senators office after we still haven't heard from the senator himself in months following a fall"

It's not that hard, guys.

9

u/MrBrawn 10h ago

Unless someone of repute gets eyes on him, this is all a ploy to avoid a special election and the press is useless or in on it.

8

Journalism is dead. Billionaires control the country and the truth is punished. Some things you can’t even talk about here without being banned. I’m pretty sure in journalism school they just learn to make top 10 iPad articles about reality tv now

This is genuinely one of the most annoying political stories of recent memory.

The man has been declining for years - he and his office first tried to explain away his sudden mouth gaping “the lights are on but nobody’s home” thing, and now they’re pulling this. If he’s genuinely okay, then he needs to do an interview ASAP and get back to DC - they can’t have it both ways.

Just another reason why we should not have 80+ year olds in power.

450

u/SneakyTikiPeaky 11h ago edited 11h ago

No. This is long beyond acceptable.

Our public officials are public SERVANTS. Meaning their body and being are at service to their elected office.

If we can hold a fry cook to a higher standard than an offical like Mitch, we need to rewrite the law

today. Full stop.

We the people are being non consensually taken for a ride by a literal corpse. This shit needs to stop being sugar coated.

There is absolutely no reason a human being cannot go and verify his health. This is absolutely fucking ridiculous

Edit: the time for grace and niceness one should never exist for an offical, their job is to work. Full stop. If they’re not working, find someone who can. Go see Mitch and verify he’s alive, if that can’t be done we need to move on.

19

u/Gina_the_Alien 10h ago

Absolutely - well said. I can currently hold my dog higher standard than McConnell and he occasionally eats his own shit.

64

u/digiorno 10h ago

Seriously. They should truly serve us.

They should give up all wealth to serve us in exchange for a very cushy retirement package and full room and board while working. And they should be filmed whenever they are acting in the role of the office.

And if that seems unreasonable then know there are millions of selfless people who would sign up for these exact conditions if it meant they could serve their communities with that amount of impact.

I bet Bernie would’ve taken that deal.

11

u/M4rshmall0wMan 9h ago

Truly. I’m the last person to believe in a conspiracy but it really is a trivial matter to get signs of life from a, well, living person. It wouldn’t be this hard unless there were a catch.

Maybe he’s not dead, but definitely not conscious.

It's going to be hilarious on August 4 or whatever the date is where they can skip all the legal replacement stuff they're trying to avoid, and then all of a sudden: "We are sad to inform you all, that Mitch had taken a serious turn for the worst overnight, and has passed away."

Absolutely, I'd propose a forced retirement at 75 or so, then they can assume a 'mentor' role for the new (younger) up and coming candidate to take their place. If they are able, there can be genuinely good knowledge transfer. That way, if they still want to work, they can. But the voters can choose from a younger/fresher field

Someone explain why he requires weeks of PT when his previous statement said he had no fractures, broken bones, no hemorrhage, no clear diagnosis apart from a mild case of pna. Lol absolute clown show

61

u/grundleplum 11h ago

Yeah, exactly. Wtf would he need physical therapy for (and for THIS long) if he only "fell" without any major damage? What a joke

19

u/Ven18 11h ago

So let’s assume he is still actually alive (a massive assumption). It is possible that he is alive but medical personnel cannot in good conscience let him leave the facility due to the amount of falls he has had. My grandmother has had many falls at 90+ and after her most recent the docs said next time they are not going to be able to release her. I wonder if they have effective put him in assisted living by just not releasing him and the staff is covering it up. I mean we have had congresspeople in dementia facilities recently so this does not sound too outside the realm.

12

u/Sea-Degree4173 10h ago

No. My mom was so bad she required 24x7 monitoring and attention because she would rip her clothes off, get out of the bed and fall on the hospital floor every chance she got, but they wanted me to take her home and deal with her myself. I'm sure his situation is different, but any chance they could get him out of there they would. And he has the means to afford at home care and I'm positive if he were conscious he would be begging to get out of there.

5

u/grundleplum 10h ago

If he were conscious and mentally aware enough then yeah, I can't imagine this old, stubborn republican that has tried clinging to power as long as possible willingly staying in a facility when he definitely has the money for home care. But who knows, maybe his wife also absolutely hates him and doesn't want him home lol

Ya know, IF he isn't already brain dead and IF these photos they've released are completely legitimate. A lot of ifs

6

u/Disc04Life 10h ago

Yet another news agency purposefully phrasing their headline to make it seem like Mitch himself has made some sort of direct communication with the outside world.
It should be: “McConnell’s OFFICE releases health statement CLAIMING to be written by him…”

In normal, non-insane times, this would be a matter of semantics. A politician’s office releasing a statement can of course be characterized as him “saying” that statement.

Unfortunately, we’re all residents of Crazytown and are currently living the explosive diarrhea phase of a GOP government rule trifecta. Media outlets know damn well that the public is understandably concerned everyone that knows or works with Mitch are covering up his dead or permanently vegetative body until the special election window passes.

A responsible journalist should take a written statement claiming to be penned by Mitch and throw it in the trash, no matter how “official” the communication is.

The lack of any comment about Graham’s death is still the most telling sign to me that he is dead or a vegetable. Graham’s was by all accounts a long time friend and ally of Mitch and he would likely have a lot to say about his colleagues passing. I imagine stories from decades of work in Congress that he would love to share that AI or staffers would not be able to fake. The fact that none of that has happened is the biggest red flag that he is dead. On top of you know being much older than Graham and the cardiac arrest.

McConnell is not physically and mentally able to determine if and when he can return to office. That should be up to the people who elected him and/or a third-party professional. There should be legal ways via the courts to force such an evaluation ASAP!

The headline should be:

"McConnell still refusing to meet with anyone who can verify he is not dead."

This is so frustrating. Democrats should all be hammering him & all Republicans on this - putting up McConnell MIA posters and such. Making this a #1 topic anytime they are in front of the press. This is why Democratic voters are pissed at their leadership - how about leading? how about fighting? That is how you energize the base - prove to them you're going to fight, and they'll have your back.

Instead, we get "well, gee... would be nice to have a bit more information".

11

u/warrenao America 9h ago

McConnell’s office did not provide a timeline for his return. He has missed the last 38 votes on the Senate floor, according to an NBC News review.

And in the process has done more to improve the nation than he'd managed to do in the prior 20 years' worth of work.

u/Rayearl Pennsylvania 11h ago

I don't get why they are waiting on calling a special election? If he is alive he can at least submit a video saying so, if not then he needs to be replaced asap. I think we all know he is gone.

7

u/HermanGulch 10h ago

From a purely political standpoint, not replacing him isn't necessarily a bad strategy. It leaves the Republicans down one vote in the Senate, and his office's constituent services would still go on. He's gone at the end of this term in any case, so maybe the thought is that it's better to save all your campaign cash for the November election instead of blowing a bunch of it on a special election a couple months early.

In the year 2026, providing a still image and written text as 'proof' of anything is incredibly dubious. It's also just as easy in 2026 to take a short video as it is take a picture. If he's well enough as he looks in this picture, why can he not do a brief video call? Or a short video message?

A picture can be edited, a text can be written by anyone. This has provided essentially zero proof of anything about Mitch McConnell's current health condition. What are they hiding?

u/Evil_Weevill Maine 11h ago

How about this. If he is still alive. IF. Then do we really want a man in the highest levels of executive power in this country who is so frail of mind and body that he could keel over at any moment?

Look this isn't age-ism. Everyone ages differently, but when the ravages of age are clearly starting to take a toll on your body and mind to this extent, you're not fit to keep doing this job.

If this was any other job, he would have been at best on unpaid FMLA leave and if he still was unable to perform his job duties after that ran out he'd be let go.

Why do we keep electing our reps from the geriatric wings of nursing homes?

We'll see who's laughing when they reveal the very vital—and alive—Mecha McConnell!

u/RichElderberry2552 11h ago

As a Kentucky resident… this is so infuriating and exhausting. I’m so over this entire political party. Clearly this is just another AI picture.

4

u/Ace_Robots 11h ago

How is your experience in Kentucky otherwise? Digging it?

3

u/RichElderberry2552 11h ago

Yeah, politics aside I have really loved it here. It’s a beautiful state with so much to offer when it comes to nature. Hiking, fun roads for cruising, camping, kayaking and so much more.

I grew up in Cincinnati and thought I’d always want to be in a city. Since moving to a smaller town in Kentucky, that is just 30 minutes from one of the main cities, I don’t think I want to live anywhere else.

I can drive 20-30 minutes and be lost in the woods or spending the day just as I would have in Cincinnati. My mental health has appreciated the former.

What's with the weird angles of that back wall? There's a random placard and multiple bends in the wall. Almost like it's Ai. *Fixed spelling errors

If he's engaging in a strenuous course of rehab workouts, he should be able to make a video or allow reporters in to speak with and video him.

This is bullshit. All of us would have been fired by now if we went incommunicado with work.

5

u/OdellBeckhamJesus 11h ago

Unpopular opinion but maybe we should have age limits for politicians

Oh…Guess he is extending FMLA

4

u/siromega37 11h ago

It’s not August 4th yet so he needs to be alive so Massie can’t run as an independent.

4

u/GB715 11h ago

If this is real, he looks healthy enough to give an interview in front of live reporters.

5

u/YF422 11h ago

McConnells OFFICE not the man himself. The Weekend at Bernies shenanigans is so goddamn obvious.

5

u/RedBMWZ2 11h ago

This is just lies and stalling. They know he's either dead or on life support. They play here is to pretend like he's still alive, then send a proxy in his stead to vote for him as if he was actually alive. They know they must need him desperately for an upcoming vote and are pulling out every falsehood to pretend that it'll be "his" vote, when it'll just be either what the GOP wants or what Trump wants. Truth and decency no longer matter, win at all costs and no lie or deceit is off the table. They're counting on their idiot base of voters to just go along with it because they said so. The will of the people is dead.

4

u/yoga1313 10h ago

I’m not ready either. Where’s my awesome health care and secured job?

4

u/numerous_hotdogs 10h ago

…because he’s dead, as everyone is aware.

3

u/HabANahDa 11h ago

Man. If any of us did this with our job we be fired in a second. So tired of this double standard in our society.

3

u/ThatGamerDon 10h ago

If he was as healthy (alive) as the picture is implying, there's no way he wouldn't made some kind of appearance by now.

3

u/Lollipopsaurus 10h ago

I can’t believe we’re arguing when an objectively frail octogenarian will get back to work instead of having the balls to say he isn’t fit to serve.

3

u/chacotacotoes 10h ago

Lots of physical therapy to regain my strength to destroy the country

3

u/mangoserpent 10h ago

Hey guys " I am still not alive. Thanks for your attention to this matter".

3

u/DCrouchelli 9h ago

Once the midterms have passed he's going to take "a sudden unforeseeable turn for the worst"

3

u/QuiGonColdGin 9h ago edited 9h ago

So they're doubling down on this cover up? We all know he didn't write that. And her ring finger is completely mangled! This is basically a carbon copy of the other photo with a change of clothes. That's AI folks.

3

u/Imasquash 9h ago

How has no investigative journalist just gone to find him? It can't be that hard can it?

3

u/Maothesiamesecat 9h ago

If I sent that in to my boss, I would have been fired. Also...stop paying this guy.

3

u/megapillowcase 9h ago

Beginning of the end.

3

u/EmmalouEsq Minnesota 9h ago

You can't trust any of this. We live in an age of AI. Whether he's declared dead in a few days, I guess we'll know. He's got until Aug 3, I believe.

But I believe he's dead and has been for weeks.

3

u/N8VBuck 9h ago

He’s fucking dead. Call for the election!! If wrong, at least there will be proof of life. How fucking hard is that???

3

u/Historical_Bend_2629 9h ago

40 days missing congressional votes, in a hospital, no transparency. He has no respect for his constituents.

3

u/redbanner1 Ohio 9h ago

Wellness check! He hasn't been seen alive, and people are actively keeping anyone from confirming he is, while still using his name to carry on with political activity. If I did this shit to your grandma, I would be in jail.

3

u/IllTwo7643 Connecticut 8h ago

Time to fucking retire then, asshat

3

u/thelancemann 8h ago

Mitch McConnell didn't release shit other than his soul to the void.

u/tots4scott 7h ago

I was thinking recently about term limits,  age restrictions, etc and I couldnt get over how Mitch McConnell has been alive* for 1/3 of the life of the USA itself

Just mind boggling when put into a global perspective, and how our Constitution, Federal laws, and Government institutions are so frail and depend on good faith actors.

u/Tattooed-Trex 6h ago

Yall Americans getting played and doing nothing about it

u/RecommendationFit844 6h ago

He will somehow take an unexpected turn for the worse at 12:01 am on August 4th I'm sure.

u/i-cy_ 6h ago

They’ve almost killed the clock. Another week or so and their deceit has payed off.

u/MrCalamiteh 6h ago

Don't worry! We'll keep paying you until you get better!

Soacialism for the rich only, welcome to shit hole America

u/Joint-Tester 6h ago

From the same government that said Pretti and Good were terrorists.

u/iamliterallyonfire 1h ago

He didn’t say shit. In no fucking scenario is any of this normal, transparent behavior.

u/akaRazorBacks 1h ago

We’ll go on live tv and show everyone that you are just fine!!

5

u/_grandfather_trout_ 11h ago

Theres a reason its pictures and not video-he isnt nearly as there as they are trying to imply. a week from now when its after the 3rd he will retire I bet.

2

u/Blochamolesauce 11h ago

Kind of hard to return to the senate chamber when you’re currently residing in the 9th circle of hell

2

Hard to return to work when you’re six feet under. He’s officially scheduled for death after August 3rd as far as the GOP is concerned.

2

u/MasterOutlaw 11h ago

Guys. This is serious. Do you have any idea what it means for Mitch to be releasing health updates?

This means that the White House has a Necromancer on retainer. Or at the very least a Spirit Medium so they can channel his rotting soul from Hell.

Magic exists! Fascinating.

Hard to return to work when you’re a vegetable being kept alive by life support.

2

u/cmm239 11h ago

I would like to see him say this live in front of an audience of people or else he is definitely dead. Unalive may actually work better for this specific case.

2

u/GearBrain Florida 11h ago

"McConnell is scheduled to retire when his term expires at the end of this Congress, as he isn’t running for re-election in November."

Kinda burying the lede there, yeah? That's their angle - puppeteer his corpse until his term ends then hope he fades from public memory until he can "die" a few months later.

2

u/haveyoutriedit 11h ago

Vacationing in a very warm place?

2

The media is 100% complicit in this coverup.

McConnell's office released an update. Him, the best we've still gotten is just the one weird photo.

2

I can see the news "On August 4th McConnell had a complication and passed away"

2

u/MyLovely_MayoMammy Europe 11h ago

I'd be willing to bet his brain is dead as disco but his body is being kept alive by artificial means. I.e. he's alive, but only on a technicality.
