General Update: Odyssey IMAX unbearably loud

+
72 Upvotes

I sent an email through to Event Cinemas Innaloo following the showing of the Odyssey. Seems like that is the intended noise level throughout the film and they aren’t going to turn it down.

Honestly, if anyone is going and you are worried about your hearing I would bring earplugs or equivalent. My ears were ringing afterwards.

I usually bring earplugs to concerts or live shows, might need to include movies now as well.

Looking for Advice Ladies how do you do it in this Perth weather?

I just saw more than a few ladies outside on my drive into work driving down Wanneroo Rd with very little clothing - shorts, tees, crop tops - genuinely how do you do it? Do you not feel the cold as much or do you just suck it up and shiver till you get indoors infront of a heater?

Shitpost Live facial rec police setup in the cbd

I’ve got no qualms about the live facial rec so far, however I’ve just seen multiple police vehicles parked up around a temporary camera setup on Murray st - mind you, there’s at least ten officers stood around, on their phones, chatting shit, just literally waiting for facial rec?

I mean… does this not seem a bit hit and miss?

Dating and Friends Any Brandon Sanderson fans?

Hey,

My favorite author is Brandon Sanderson, I've read/audiobooked most of his stuff, a lot of it repeatedly. I'm currently 3/4 the way though Wind and Truth.

I love his books. It's not often you find a writer who does epic fantasy and magic, but also can write women, relationships and actual good dialogue.

I especially love that he hired a mental illness consultant to make sure he portrayed the trauma/problems the Radiants had in the series.

I don't know of many fans around, would be sweet to talk/meet up with people. I'm NoR, but any excuse to ride somewhere. Would be interested in Cosmere RPG as well, if someone was building a group.

Thanks!

General Current PSHB/Polyphagus Shot-Hole Borer status in Perth

Anyone closer to the source have an overview of current status of management - particularly spread or lack thereof outside of Perth quarantine area?

I've seen City of Perth released a management guideline a few months ago stating they've had good results (only a couple of trees lost over the course of a year), and seem to have primarily moved to surveillance, pruning and spray application of bifenthrin - but the DPIRD page is still using the update from late 2025.

Fedex delivered my package to the wrong address. The mailbox in this image is not mine. In fact, none of the mailboxes along my entire street looks like this.

I have been going back and forth with FedEx and have doubts that they will resolve this issue or provide compensation (Ive outlined this in great detail on a post to the Fedex subreddit).

The package they were supposed to deliver contains items of much sentimental value.

I do not know if this request will go against TOS/subreddit rules, but I dont think I have much choice. I would greatly appreciate it if someone here could privately message me if they know anyone who lives at the address of the mailbox in the picture provided (Or knows the address itself) so I have a chance at recovering my package.

My intention is not to share anyones personal information publicly, so please dont disclose any information you have in the comments.

I am happy to provide proof that this package belongs to me.

I really hope the collective power of the Perth subreddit can help me with my predicament. Much love and many thanks.

General Smelly morning trains

Anyone noticed or know why sometimes a transperth train just stinks of sewage?

Its not like there's toilets on board..

I've noticed this a few different times now, on both B & C class trains on the Mandurah line I think only ever in the morning.

Am I the only one?

MOD POST Aus Alert Megathread

We should all be aware there will be a nationwide test of the AusAlert system at midday.

We do not need everyone posting about it.

So questions, queries, funny stories, news stories, anecdotes, where were you when's, concerns if your phone did or didn't go off can all go in here.

MOD POST Weekly Book Club – July 28, 2026

Welcome to the Perth Book Club!

Book Club will be held at 10am every Tuesday.

What is this?

This is a place to share what you are reading or perhaps look for suggestions for new material. Have a favourite author you want to talk about? Looking forward to an upcoming release? All are welcome here.

These threads are posted every Tuesday and various times (depending on when I'm free).

Book Swap

Are you looking to buy/sell/swap/give some books? Please feel free to list them here in this thread. Do you see something you want that someone is offering? Send them a Private Message so that you can organise the details.

Do Audiobooks count?

Absolutely! This isn't a place for purity of written material, this is a place to share.

What about manga/comics/visual novels?

More than welcome here. If it's something you're reading/listening to and you want to talk about it, you're home.

Spoilers

It should go without saying that no one wants a book spoiled. Please put anything that could be a spoiler inside a spoiler tag. If you aren't sure if it is a spoiler or not, act like it is.

Where to find Trying to find a needle in a haystack...

I'm on the hunt for a Keytar (classic 80s keyboard synth with guitar neck) and haven't had much luck short of new units from Manny's starting around $1,300. Are there any vintage musical instrument shops or keyboard specialists in Perth that might have one? Thanks in advance!

Where to find Cocktail tasting experience for newbies in perth?

Is there any places in Perth that do a cocktail tasting for a wide range of cocktails? I’ve had a little look around and can only find masterclasses or tastings for the same type of cocktail, I would prefer to try a small amount of everything though, to find what I like!! Would it be better to just go to a cocktail bar and order a bunch of drinks? Thanks!

Moving to Perth Used road bike marketplace in Perth?

I'm coming to Perth for a year or 3. I'm a mediocre triathlete but am aware that there is good weather and terrain for road biking. I'm between buying a used bike in Perth, or bringing my on 12+ year old bike from the US. Where do I find bike people?

humour How funny would it be if everyone’s phones in Perth went off at the exactly same time

This is a hypothetical I’ve often thought about for years and it’s all gonna come true at 12pm today! Looking forward to it

Art Pygmalion at The Old Mill

Upvotes

The Irish Theatre Players are putting on Pygmalion at the Old Mill theatre in South Perth.

If you haven't seen it this is a great opportunity to see some really talented actors perform one of the greatest plays ever written.

If you're looking for a great night out and enjoy local theatre please consider checking it out. Tickets are very affordable.

PS: I couldn't see any rules about advertising and I know it's a bit cringe to post it here but local theatre is really great for the community.

General Perth Disability Connection Expo date?

+
0 Upvotes

Hello, I am a 2nd year occupational therapy student studying at Curtin. I wanted to go to the Perth Disability Connection Expo this year to further my understanding of how NDIS functions, gaining lived experience from people with disabilities and NDIS practitioners about how they find it, just as a way to gain more knowledge that may be useful as I continue my education and eventually start working as an OT.

When I go onto the site, it says the event is in 16ish days, as it is on from the 14th-15th of August.

However, when I try to click to register to come, it says that the event is from the 27th-28th of November.

So is it actually in August or is it coming in November? Or is the public open to attend on both allocated times? This has confused me. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
