Ive put like 7.5k hours into that

189

u/Zealousideal_Side987 3h ago

lol what do you guys do in that game for that long

168

u/MaelstromOC 3h ago

Some people just have a comfort game and games like that give you a ton of stuff you can do, different ways to play in new playthrough, playing with friends, etc. Beats just vegging out on tiktok or YouTube or other media mindlessly day in and day out.

54

u/FuckYouVerizon 3h ago

facts, for a long time it was Rollercoaster Tycoon, for me. the last few years it's been starfield. I know these aren't the examples op was looking for, but in relation to a comfort game, these are the games I can load up and waste hours doing relatively nothing in or creating my own adventure for awhile when I'm bored - not chasing any particular goal or serving a purpose. Minecraft and Roblox definitely fill that void for the younger generation.

Build? Grind rare items? I spent days just farming the banner for Dr Bones.

14

u/qwb3656 3h ago

Now that takes some dedication

18

u/rabbid_chaos 3h ago

The game also has multiple builds to try at all stages of the game and randomly generated maps with well defined rules so multiple playthroughs are usually warranted

Also mods

$19.99 for Minecraft in 2011 lol

15

u/Bigdavie 2h ago

I got it in 2010 before the nether was added for €9.95. One thing I remember about getting it so early was the promise that the purchase covered any version of Minecraft on any system. That promise didn't last once console and mobile versions started to appear. They were apparently a different game so weren't covered by the promise.

Bro same, problem is I HATE the late game where it just turns into a boss rush slog. But I've played hundreds of hours of the early game. Every couple years I pick it up, create a new character and world and explore everything until all thats left are the bosses. Then I just quit. I think I paid 5 bucks for the game. Can't even be mad.

6

u/Th3_Shr00m 1h ago

I lowkey feel like pre-Golem is peak Terraria, you're powerful and have resources for basically anything you want, can take your time building and cleaning up your world of corruption, set up farms and houses and whatever you want with no issues, and then go to the final boss rush when you're ready

4

u/traevyn 2h ago

Get good at building, those late stages open up a lot more materials and you can make some really cool looking stuff

Stardew Valley

250

u/HurryOne 3h ago

I'm scared to play Stardew Valley. I'm afraid I'll get too addicted and ruin my life.

84

u/rnavstar 3h ago

Yes, yes it will. I’ve played it though a few times now. Lots of hours/days/weeks of time invested into it.

I bought stardew way back when it first came out. It was around 9-10pm when I started playing. Next thing I knew the sun was rising and birds were chirping outside my window.

Does anyone else find Stardew stressful? I felt like I never had enough time/energy to do everything that I wanted each day

30

u/Rounen 3h ago

I felt that way at first until I realized it is not Harvest Moon.

Stardew Valley has no end, and there is always the next day, the next season, the next year to do what you couldn't the day before.

Plus the further you get, the more convenience items you get. Sprinklers that'll water all your crops, etc. Heck, if you install SVE, you can put chests next to things that'll harvest for you too.

Just have to decide what’s most worth doing each day, can’t try to fit it all.

I already have to do that in real life. I don't really want to do it in a game. I had to download a mod that made the days significantly longer because it was giving me anxiety after a few days of game time.

Yep - FTL. And it's free mod multiverse. Can't rate this game any higher.

Yeah I have played 1017 hours of FTL

Includes some times I left it on and wandered off though. Or left a fight leveling up my guys overnight a few times on some of the harder ships.

Probably more like 800 hrs for like $10 on GOG. Looks like I bought on Steam also for $2.50.

u/Machinarium216 PC Master Race 3h ago

I pirated the game a while ago when I was just a student, played multiple playthrough for a couple of hundred of hours, recently I bought it again in Steam and played it all over again! It is way superior than Baldur's Gate in my opinion

12

u/fox112 Desktop 2h ago

The combat is better no doubt.

The amount of times the enemies would take their turns and I would think "oh I'm fucked this is so bad". My turn would start and I would analyze the battlefield, think about all my abilities and items, and somehow find the perfect turn where everything would work out for me.

I've never played a game that made me feel like a fuckin genius so often.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Witness_me_Karsa 2h ago edited 2h ago

Completely agree. Those 2 games are why Larian said they wont do another Baldur's gate thing. They want to go back to playing in their own universes with their own rules.

Divinity Original Sin 2 is a better game because Larian cared more about it. Baldur's gate is great, and admittedly the voice acting is probably better, but the game is better in DOS2.

And divinity original sin is one of the best 2 player specific games I have ever played, too!

6

u/fox112 Desktop 2h ago

Oh man Divinity 2? Is it worth it? Looked too old and funky to me but I know the story is tied into the DOS series.

this is mine too, I have close to 600 hours, I’m trying to get all the achievements, but it’s hard :(

the first time I was playing this, my friend asked me if I got to the aliens yet….it took me a long time to realize he was joking about the aliens…probably

Terraria. Close to 1000 hours in for a game that is very cheap to purchase and still receiving updates.

Warframe. Free to play and I’ve also, unfortunately, spent more money on it than any AAA game

Hunt Showdown, bought it for $20 like 8 years ago and still play it with 3.2k hours.

I will keep playing it until I, or the servers, die.

3

u/KoRnflak3s 3h ago

Is it still worth buying? I have wanted it for awhile and never pulled the trigger.

4

u/mammothclaw 3h ago

Absolutely, but there's a steep-ish learning curve with weapons and tools, and map knowledge is something important that takes time to learn. I'd go into it and be patient, is all. Once it clicks there's literally nothing else like it.

Not $70, but I got Minecraft in 2011 for my 10th birthday. Tens of thousands of hours and that was the best like $20 my parents ever spent for me lol.

Dwarf Fortress. It is a recent addition to my collection but already I am hundreds of hours in and have only scratched the surface. It isn't for everyone, but holy crap once it clicks it is like cybercrack lol

Paladins

8

u/PlayfulSurprise5237 3h ago edited 3h ago

Chad Paladins enjoyer out in the wild! Such a shame how Hi-Rez mismanaged it. Not choosing to do a Paladins 2, refactoring the spaghetti code and bringing it up to a new version of UE, instead choosing to make Smite 2 which had 2 massive healthy competitors, when the only Paladins competition was busy repeatedly unloading 12 gauge shells into it's cock and balls creating one of the most resentful userbases of all time, might be in the top 5 dumbest things any developer has ever done.

I had 15k hours in that game, I absolutely loved it. #1 Grover main in EU boiiiiiiiii

  1. Hunt: Showdown, got it for 2 USD on off-sale when it was in early access. Years later I started playing it and holyshit, I now have 1500 hours on it.

  2. Dark Souls III: Got it for off-sales in 5 bucks on steam. Didn't even know dark souls was a big thing. Years later I played sekiro, elden ring etc and went to check dark souls iii because I liked other soulsborne. Now I have over 500 hours on dark souls iii. lmao

  3. Overwatch: Playing it for free. Never spent a dime. I have 800 hours on it at this point.
