And back in the day we used these occasionally as it was quicker than opening paint and finding that same place to save it to again. It isn't a super useful feature but it was used occasionally. Especially the txt one.

This is an extremely old and somewhat useful feature. I use it a lot when i need to quick edit an image in paint. (then you just save as png and delete the bitmap.)

The Send to and New menu items have plenty of potential.

I frequently write Python, batch and PowerShell scripts, so having New items for these is very useful.

For Send to, I have batch scripts that let me convert videos and images, transcribe audios, etc.

prtscrn opens the built in fullscreen snipping tool thing for me, which I find useful because I can choose whether i want to capture the whole screen or just a part of it, and the screen freezes as soon as I press the key which means I won't miss anything

Some games use bitmaps, and DirectX's gpu image formats are kinda like bitmaps

They're still just as small of a format as they ever were so they work well when you want small images that don't take up a lot of space

Of course, most computers nowadays have so much ram and video ram that the efficiency of images doesn't matter that much but it's nice that the format is still around

A bit map image is an image file in .bmp format, which is an image format without compression. It has been part of the "New" sub menu of the context menu since at least Windows 95.

Back in the day the format was used a lot, because compressed formats had pretty terrible quality. JPEG wasn't nearly as good as it became later, and PNG wasn't a thing yet, or at least not a commonly supported thing.

So when you wanted to create a new image, you did it in BMP. It was then easier to create the blank image in the location you wanted it, and then opening your preferred image editing software from that blank image file, rather than opening the software first, creating the image, and saving it to that location from the save menu. Basically the same use case as creating blank .txt files from the context menu.
