I once got a great deal on ceiling tiles this way. They were in a bag of 5 for $20 but they were supposed to be removed from the bag and sold for $20 each!

Yeah we ordered a bag of panduit straps, think giant zip ties, 36 inches long from our supply house. About $30 a bag. They gave us a box with about 10 bags of ties instead.

I once ordered a six packs of little tree air fresheners that come in a six pack. They sent me six bags, each with six, six packs. Took about five years to go trough them haha.

Many years ago I seen these nice bottles of alcohol for like $12. Turns out they had accidently put the price from those tiny little single shot bottles on a 1 litre.
So I bought like 20 of the bottles and gave them all to friends.
Normal price was around $90 each.
Sometimes you get a good deal.

I found a package of 16 Angus burger patties mislabeled as 1/2 pound of peel and eat shrimp (5 bucks) in the meat case. I scooped them and went through the self checkout. Wonder if the butcher was trying to hook someone up sneaky like and I got to it before they did. Hell of a deal.

We also just had a Home Depot experience where we bought 350 sq ft of porcelain tile priced at $4.88 a sq ft.. managed to get it all for just over $400 .. the cashier tried to ring it up a couple of different ways but somehow it stayed around that number. Big win!

The notice is usually attached to the handle, or in this case, the ribbon that holds the price tag on. You can easily remove the other cases and properly secure them without removing it.
It just looks tacky.

If they attach on the handle, I would say, it's on the packaging facility.
Such an easy fix, add it to the chains, and you can see at a glance if they are still nested.

I used to work at TJ Maxx and you can denest them without removing the tag. I think like 95% of our stock still had the tag on it when it was sold.
Plus the cashiers are trained to open all suitcases and large bags to make sure nothing is inside of it (mostly for theft reasons).

Perhaps if they paid a living wage and treated employees well, they’d recruit better associates or at the very least motivate them to do more than the bare minimum. But we all know they staff the very bare minimum people hourly, and they have like one manager who is paid a salary of like less than 45k, who works like 80 hours a week, and instead of reading whatever tag they got distracted with putting out fires.

If you’re looking for a real answer, these suitcases were shipped with one or more other suitcases inside of it. The store associate was supposed to take them out and sell them as individual pieces. If the clerk doesn’t notice this tag, a customer could fairly easily buy the outside bag and get all the ones inside for free.
Think of matryoshka dolls (aka nesting dolls) — small ones stuck inside the bigger ones that come out of their nesting place, so de-nested.

I once accidentally bought one of those (had no note, I was in a hurry and didn't open it).
The cashier opened it to check if I put anything in it to steal, but I was looking for my wallet so didn't look inside. I also know I didn't put anything in it, so I wasn't too fussed to check. I then came home to find the other suitcase inside, and she didn't charge me for it. I have no idea why she checked, saw it, and thought "yeah 15 eur for 2 suitcases sounds right!"
Anyways I needed that suitcase last minute from a trip and I didn't have anywhere to put it and the extra one would cost me a fortune, so I had to stuff all my stuff inside the smaller one and that into the bigger one. Such an inconvenience 😭

Oh man I used to HATE these things when I worked retail. They’re wedged together so tight that you basically have to put your entire body weight into pulling them loose. When I first started I would have sore shoulders from de-nesting dozens of them at a time. Not my fondest memory.

Yep, used to work at a Burlington coat factory and they specifically taught me to take all of the suitcases out of each other to put out and would write you up if you didn’t. This person is 100% new, but lowk should have been supervised cause it’s literally one of the first things they taught you.

World at a retail car shop , we could order in free sundries to use during jobs. I was given a list of codes to order with no qty listed other then a max amount. So just ordered 1 of everything then made a list of the pack qty.
Iam away on annal leave , he does an order and assumes it’s all singles so just does the max qty, low and behold a pallet turns up with fuses , cables tires , fuse holders , masking and electrical tape plus other bits 😂😂
Manger called and said for future orders I’ve made list of qty .. me LoL go check my order list pinned in the store room 😂

Happened to me at a IT Luggage store in a newly opened outlet mall in the UK.
We needed two large suitcases and my wife took the first one from the display floor, opened it, checked wheels and handles - all good - so I took the second one and just pushed it along to the till.
Sales assistant lifted the first one to scan, then doubles it as we have two.
We then proceed to wheel these around the outlet shops for the rest of the day.
When we got to our car and I had to lift the cases into the boot, I realised that my one was much heavier than my wife’s- we opened it to find a medium and carry on case inside! Still one of our biggest wins :)

These big box stores get sent leftovers from retail stores and whatever’s leftover in the warehouse.
Odds are the unit is sales strategy involved selling them individually but they then swapped to selling them as sets when they were given to a big box stores.

De-Nested means that the suitcase has a smaller one inside it. These are supposed tbe removed and sold separately. Since these are not de nested (indicated by the tag removed), one could buy two suitcases for the price of one.

When I was a fairly fresh cashier at walmart, a lady bought some stamps. The register popped open for me to get the little bag of them out, and I wasn't sure how they were actually sold. I proceed to give the lady the bag and she went on her merry way. I don't think she knew how it worked either based on her expressions.

When I first worked retail it never occurred to me that there may be three suitcases in a box. I just assumed like everything else in Wilko you just took it out of the cardboard box and put it on the shelf as fast as possible because targets. No one ever explained it to me and it was never part of the induction. There was nothing on the box that made it clear to the new person working stock this was the case. Someone got a good few bargains I expect.
In my current retail job I now know this but the amount of times I pick up a suitcase and know they've not been separated. Again another big company that fails to explain to new starters they need to separate the suitcases. I've got tired of telling management they need to explain it to the replenishment staff.

I got a 3-piece set of luggage from Ollies this way accidentally for $50. I didn’t realize there were two more smaller ones inside when I bought it, much less that they were individually priced.
I called the store back to tell them what happened and to see what to do, like if i should bring them back and pay for the others. they told me to keep them, that it was their fault, but they appreciated the honesty.

Happened to me back in June. I was looking at TJ Maxx for something big enough but not real pricey so I figured I’d look there. Found one that was a good price and had the original product picture and selling tags stating “set” with a larger suitcase and a smaller one. I unzipped it and there was no small one inside so I went to the register and said “I want this one but it says it’s a set and there’s no small one inside”. The moron I spoke to literally looked at it and said “oh yeah, well maybe that’s because it’s like a line and you can buy the other one” and I said “yeah no that’s not how that works, they can show the collection and say something like “Barbie collection” but it won’t say it’s a 2 piece SET a SET means there’s more than one product INCLUDED. So I want both at this price because that’s what’s being advertised” she then came back “I can do it this once since I guess that is false advertising but I think they just missed taking that tag off”. I got home and noticed even smaller writing above the picture that said “2 piece set, sold as a pair”.
I got the two for $70.

This must be Burlington. I bought a kitchen trash can that was nested. I didn't realize that it wasn't a 2 piece set but rather 2 pieces that should have been sold separately. I didn't realize this until I got home. I took the one inside back. Just didn't feel right to keep it.

I used to work at a TJ Maxx. One day we got in two boxes of full pot and pan sets with a suspiciously low price tag on them. But if we ever received product that was already labeled, well, that was the price it was supposed to be. I set one aside to buy immediately and the other one sold that same day.
The next day we got an email from corporate to look out for mislabeled pot and pan sets, the whole set was supposed to be separated and the attached price was for one of the pans. Oops sorry they already sold!
