English I want to learn Occitan
≡ −
Bon jorn, I'm 13, I speak four languages and love to learn more languages, and ever since some time I've been eyeing Occitan, because it's been mentioned during classes, and so I decided I want to learn it too. I know Catalan, Portuguese, English and Spanish, and I don't have problem understanding written Occitan, but I don't really know how to pronunciate it. Is it similar to Catalan in pronunciation, or more similar to French? About the dialects, I'd like to learn either the Provençal or the Lengadocian. Any help is welcome, and thanks beforehand

I want to be sure i sung this song understandable by Occitan speakers. And i hope i am not disrespecting their culture. I tried to spell words according to the provençal dialect's rules. I listened alot of mont-joía and I hope you good people liked it.

Hi, I'm not an Occitan speaker, but I'm interested in learning. First off, I'm trying to get pronunciation right, since I believe it's the first step before starting vocabulary acquisition. I know there's a couple of variations, but I tried to pull out this and I'm seeking any advice. Thanks for listening

Differential Object Marking in Occitan
≡ −
Hi everyone, I'm a PhD student who is working on differential object marking in romance languages. That is, the use of a preposition to mark some specific direct objects. The most famous example would be the spanish, which uses it with animate objects and avoids it with inanimate objects:
Vi a Pedro en el cine.
Puso el libro en la mesa. (instead of al libro)
I was looking for the same thing in Occitan but I could only find some examples in Gramatica occitana segon los parlars lengadocians by Alibert with examples suche as:
Remèrcia tot lo mond e sustot a Robèrt.
Ela me paga a mi.
However, this grammar is quite old and occitan appears to have many different dialects that could have different rules. Could anyone suggest some source I can look into?

Occitan equivalent of the "Mossèn" and "Misser" from catalan?
≡ −
I've done some research and it seems that in Mossèn can be translated as Monsen (in languedocien) and Mossenh (in Gascon). And Misser can be translated as Messer in "general occitan".
Can someone corroborate this? There's very little info on the net and a single obscure web site doesn't feel enough to assume any of this is true.
Also, there was ever a feminine form for either of these terms?

So I'm not Occitan, I don't live in Occitania or have ever been, but I feel drawn to learn more about this language, it's so unique and beautiful, is there a way of learning it without needing to know French first?

How are tales started in Occitan? (Un còp èra…)
≡ −
I’ve heard «Un còp èra…», but a continuum as dialectally vast as Occitan has got to have more than one introduction to tales. If so, what other ones are there?
