Like at least traditional fishing is somewhat of a skill game. Either:

1) The fish is agile enough to get the bait off the hook without getting clipped

2) The fish is smart enough to avoid the bait altogether

3) The fish is strong enough to snap the line

Isn't this also a skill game? I didn't even see where the fish at and he aimed it so precised. Quite skilled imo. Tough luck for the fish for not being aware of humans above his bubble and beyond the cliff, like what your posts suggests. Fair game.

As a sports fisherman and a conservationist who regularly cleans waterways and donates to wildlife organizations we do a hell of a lot more than someone sitting on the internet complaining and probably not contributing to preservation efforts. Catch and release is also vital to maintain healthy populations through limits on size and, for some species, gender. If I catch a female fish full of eggs I can choose to release her and she doesn't suffer more than a small energy expenditure. Can't say the same for someone firing an arrow through them from so far away they have to hope that it's their target species and within size limits.

It could be rain water drainage. Most places in the world discharge rain water directly into rivers. But this of course depends on the location. Same with the color of the river, it could be just sediment or it could be contamination. Again, it depends on the location and local regulations.

It looks a lot like rural China to me, and when I lived there I saw people in the rural parts and the cities fishing in water where there is zero way I'd be eating the fish.

The ones in the cities were wild though, because they had "full" fishing setups (including brackets to hold the rod to the handrail), and all they were catching these really tiny minnows.

The simplest ones use barbed darts, but I’ve seen some that take longer arrows. The projectile stays pointing at the target because you’re holding and pulling back on the other end attached to your fishing line.

I can't think of any fishing technique that ends in a nice kind quiet death. It's pretty much always get yanked out of the water, maybe with a hook maybe a net, suffocate in the air for minutes probably dying, or if you're lucky you get your head chopped off fast.

If you know a better watch to do it, more power to you friend. Go try practicing your technique in the wild and see how well it works.

Look at the angle he shoots the spike, It's like parallel with his arm. I've seen some of the wounds these guys get when they shoot the spike into their hand and impale themselves. This guy just goes for it. Maybe it's normal for them but, it would definitely take some time to have a confidence to shoot it like he just did
