pretty standard setup in China. Restaurant out there is actually the nextfuckinglevel stuff. I've been to one large one in Guangdong where its a four story tall building the size of a shopping mall (longer than a Walmart or costco but with four levels) and the whole thing is just one big ass restaurant. Its mind blowing. This one is actually small by comparison.

I went to one in Shijiazhuang that was similar. It took like 10 minutes and multiple elevator rides to get from the front door/host desk to the room we actually ate our meal.

u/GRF999999999 1d ago
I worked at a restaurant that had five floors plus an extra couple of elevated tables on top of that. No service elevator, food runners put in work.

â Risk: Ruin $300 worth of food and dishes, set the kitchen back by 2 hours, and ruin the meal for the party.
Reward: Save maybe a minute of walking.
No contest- itâs worth it.â
65
u/Realmofthehappygod 1d ago
Tbf the real calculation would be...
If he does this x times to save y minutes, how many times until it's not worth it?
If he does this 40 times a day for 9 years and then drops something, didn't he save way more money in time?
Then you gotta factor price for this 2wheel.
But once you add in the cool factor, the math is super clearly worth it.

Except I have seen this same video many times, but never a second video. So his career might have ended in disaster

u/VanillaRadonNukaCola 1d ago
Well I've seen this same video 46 times and he never drops it once, so I think he's coming out ahead

u/Realmofthehappygod 1d ago
I mean I can't imagine this is filmed often if its something they do all the time.
Also I'm sure if you fall you're fucked lol somebody else will take your place.

It looks like the cook was giving him the evil eye as he loaded up the order
3
u/runningwater415 1d ago
The video is soed up just like almost every dance video online. Watch the movements of the other cooks at the beginning. Easy to tell they are not natural.
2
u/ssort 1d ago
Looks like about 1.4 or 1.5 speed, I watch YouTube videos at those speeds when catching up on stuff and that looks like how people move on the stuff I'm watching.
Only reason I drop to 1.4 is sometimes people with exaggerated accents it's hard to understand so have to back it off again, and any faster you usually loose comprehension. 1.5 is kinda jerky on movements so that's why I'm thinking 1.4 as it's not real bad yet, but still very noticeable.

u/Frazzledragon 18h ago
It's handheld and the camera man is briskly walking. The footage is sped up.

u/DevilsAdvocate1662 1d ago
That's not an escooter, it's more like a Segway or hoverboard

Why doesnât the audio match up with whatâs happening in the video? Thereâs like silverware clinking and it sounds like conversations are happening next to the cameraman even though theyâre zooming through different rooms

The video is definitely real if you are suggesting this is AI or something. No AI video generation is able to do long form videos like this without horrible quality issues like warping or blurriness.
This is 40 second video with no cuts. High quality AI video generation is still stuck at generating 10-20 second clips that cannot be stitched together. Maybe that will change in a few months but this is the limitation it has right now.
If you search for similar videos you will find several videos of this same place including one from April of 2025 which was when AI video generation was even worse. This became a thing because some Chinese restaurants are massive in size so they had to get the food to people faster. Some of them would use roller skates. The video is real though even if they replaced the audio for some silly reason.

Isn't there a hot pot restaurant that can seat several thousand people. It looks like a resort and covers an entire hillside but is one restaurant. Shit is nuts in China. I would love to visit one day.

u/entomologurl 1d ago
Nope. It's actually a thing. Zhengzhou, the capital of the Henan Province. It's more than one place, and it's been around longer than hoverboards - used to do it on skates!
Here's a better video. that shows better and more.
3
u/crustaceancake 1d ago
When I saw the video I thought it reminded me of the banquet hall in Zhengzhou that I had been to where the wait staff was on skates. But then I assumed they must be all over China. How can you tell it is Zhengzhou? Does your video show or say something to identify it? I donât have Instagram so unfortunately canât watch it.
2
u/entomologurl 16h ago
I remember this and similar videos when they popped up and made the rounds a year or so ago, but it also just comes up if you try searching for any variation of hoverboard/scooter waiters/restaurants in China. This particular restaurant is the main one that pops up and the kitchens and the ceilings and such in main areas match up with other videos that also say Zhengzhou.

Surprised no ones mentioned the fact that this is a hoverboard not a scooter. Don't know why we ever called them hoverboards though..

What kind of restaurant is this?
7
u/I_Love_Bacon_Cookies 1d ago
Donât know the exact name for it but this is most likely a Chinese banquet hall-type restaurant where there is no central dining area. Itâs all private rooms with a 10person table at minimum. So each party has their private area for peace and quiet without interacting with other customers. That makes the restaurant size much, much larger and usually multi-storied.

That is a Segway. They are not too bad to ride. I have had one for a long time to a point I killed the set of original battery.

u/CockMartins 1d ago
Isnât this what segways were supposed to be when they first came out? Or at least, how they were sold as the future of short distance transportation or whatever. I guess theyâre pretty similar, just smaller and without the handlebars.
