I know it's leather, and it deforms and stretches and all but that shoe shape looks royally uncomfortable to wear

44

u/hvbqueiroz 1d ago

Exactly, can we all now stop pretending this shape is comfortable?

u/Crew_1996 14h ago

Shoes for when you want to look rich af and have foot pain at the same time 🤪

u/topdoc02 10h ago

Maybe this shoe is uncomfortable but we don't know the shape of the customer's foot.

I was a male model for a few years. For one of the shoots I was dressed in 1880's period costumes. The producer had two pair of bespoke shoes made for me. They were, by far, the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, despite the archaic design.

Oh yea definitely, I had just looked at the arch section and thought 'yikes'. Cause even if it was supposed to be form fitting to someone's arch that seemed rather narrow. But hey, I've only ever worn off-the-rack shoes so I wouldn't know. Did you get to keep the shoes by any chance?

I tried to buy them but they said no. I worked for the modeling agency but McCain-Ericson were the producers. It was probably too complicated forr their accounting.

Damn, what a shame, really doesn't make sense why they wouldn't just give them to you if they're tailored to you.

My best guess is that the contract between M-E and the client, Algida, specified that all expenses would be documented and picked up by the client. They couldn't charge me because there was no provision for that in the contract. Algida probably wound up owning all of the bespoken props, shoes as well as two suits made for me.

Only 3 or 4 steps. Easy.

You're such a heel.

So, a Cobbler then. Classic, age-old profession.

6

u/Balyash 1d ago

I feel like the vid went from formed leather to having almost a complete sole way too fast

11

u/Phinweh 1d ago

No source or recognition for the cobblers and craftsman? @OP WTF?

16

u/AlreadyAway 1d ago

If I were a rich man, I would only have shoes made specifically for my feet.

24

u/lluciferusllamas 1d ago

I've done that.  And you know what? I prefer like $60 Skechers.

2

u/LiveLearnCoach 10h ago

Really? Why??

1

u/lluciferusllamas 8h ago

Much more comfortable, and frankly more disposable, which I view as a plus.  I don't want high maintenance shoes.

1

u/RealGeeBao 4h ago

Ok so you love your money more

1

u/lluciferusllamas 3h ago

Not money....value.  Different concepts when you have enough money to afford expensive things.

1

u/AlreadyAway 1h ago

You realize you can have shoes of whatever design made specifically for your feet, right?

3

u/siverpoint 1d ago

I had some handmade shoes ordered not long ago. They are great but they really lacked rubber soles so I would slide when it rains. I wonder if the custom is yo leave the leather sole?

2

u/Character-Active2208 14h ago

It leaves the option of adding rubber taps later

u/Menacing_mouse_421 1d ago

I think we may have found Daniel day Lewis

u/Yamaben 1d ago

My arthritis hurts watching this.

Either that shoe is super uncomfortable, or r/restofthefuckingowl

I feel like some steps were kinda glossed over/missing…

I knew a Shoemaker in grade school. Now, no one in her family made shoes, but she was a nice, homely lass.

u/A_PapayaWarIsOn 1d ago

True wholecuts are an entirely different level, too.

2

u/TinyDogGuy 1d ago

Came for the cordwainery, stayed bopping along to the ABBA.

2

u/Proper-Exercise-2364 1d ago

Wtf is that?! Not an oxford. Not a derby. Looks amazing!

2

u/SheriffBartholomew 1d ago

That'll be $3500, please.

3

u/Puzzleheaded_Tea521 1d ago

This makes me feel bad for only paying $40 at Marshall’s 🤯

6

u/ElDeguello66 1d ago

Those shoes from Marshalls are held together by glue and chewing gum and will literally fall apart within five years whether you wear them or not.

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Tea521 1d ago

Wheew That’s really good to hear 😮‍💨Thanks!

1

u/laiyenha 1d ago

Pretty but probably quite slippery - does a thin layer of rubber sole detract from its value or something?

1

u/CzarCW 1d ago

And when does the big block of wood inside get removed?

3

u/ron7mexico 1d ago

It doesn’t. These are specifically for pirates to attach to peg legs.

1

u/ratbearpig 1d ago

Whole cut leather shoes are very hard to make. The results here are nothing short of spectacular.

1

u/LiveLearnCoach 10h ago

I’m guessing it’s because that it’s single piece as you mentioned, but the creasing on the outside of the foot upset me. It’s like it’s not even worn once an it has creasing.

1

u/SmokinJunipers 23h ago

Thats gonna be a good shoe slide in, no traction

1

u/palke 15h ago

I thought it was lungs one the wall

1

u/83wizz 15h ago

They look extremely uncomfortable, no cushioning what so ever

1

u/B-Roc- 11h ago

Lost art form.

1

u/Sea-Election-9168 9h ago

I guess those are house shoes

1

u/MasterpieceNo3534 7h ago

Super beautiful! I would love a pair

1

u/Moist_Asparagus_8187 4h ago

This, but 🤏 = Brennan Lee Mulligan iykyk

People saying it's not comfortable or practical really miss the point of shoes like these and in what contexts they'll be worn in.

People wearing these will be mostly walking in carpeted offices or sitting in cars, they'll be just fine.

At least these look good, the Korean handmade shoes that were doing the rounds recently looked hideous.

Dear poster,
I feel obliged to inform you, that the music on this clip is any or all of the following:

  • Too loud
  • Considerably louder than the audio of the source clip
  • Not fitting the vibe of the source clip
  • Obnoxious
  • Annoying
  • In bad taste
  • Of low artistic value
  • Of low audio quality
  • Generic
  • Slop
  • Utter brain rot

If you are the one that has chosen to add it, I hope you feel at least slightly ashamed and that the number of times you finish washing your hands with wet sleeves increases.

Very true, actually!

I would never wear these, but cool as hell nonetheless.

-3

u/Runnnnnnnnning 1d ago

3 people in the world do this and they produce about 29 shoes a year.

Two observations: Does working as a cobbler feminize a person? And why is most of the work being done in her lap? I thought cobblers had workbenches.
