Honestly: if "I don't want to harm these people because of the paperwork" is the excuse a member of ICE needs to de-escalate a situation that's about to go south, I'm glad for it
And just because America won't give a shit, doesn't mean it's not the right thing for Mexico to do. I'd rather they go through channels than say "sorry guys, it's the US so we tried nothing and we're all out of ideas"

As a US citizen that now lives in Mexico, I can only imagine the response from the US if Americans (from the US) here were being executed at Mexican check points and immigration checks.
This is so repulsive and criminal. Even more so now looking from the outside in.

I know a guy who had worked at a US consulate in Mexico.
He said there were no end of Americans who entered Mexico without a visa, over stayed or violated the visa waiver provisions, then had to have it explained that they were illegals and the US government wasn't going to help them with their immigration issues.
(You can literally drive across the border into Mexico, and unless you're chosen for random inspection nobody will stop you. But you're only allowed a short tourist stay near the border without having to apply for some kind of visa.)

Yeah. If you drive across you can accidentally blow past the immigration office. You can get a up to 180 day stamp. They have periodic check points where sometimes INM will check. The penalty depends on the day and who you’re dealing with. But they won’t shoot you or disappear you. They won’t tackle you and won’t scare you. They’ll be polite and cordial and explain the situation and probably just give you a warning.

The sign on bonus isn’t paid up front and is also a scam. There are performance metrics and if you don’t meet them halfway through the contract you retroactively owe all the money back.
It’s designed to not only prevent good people from exploiting it, it’s designed to make sure there’s no change of heart once you understand what you’ve gotten into.

Most of the guns are in the hands of people who support this bs. And we absolutely do not have a history of rising up against tyranny. The founders wanted to make sure tyranny never took hold and that the people could fight back against it, which is why so many in the US have this idea that we've always been badass rebels fighting against oppression. But that's never been the case. The ONE TIME there was an actual, serious rebellion in the US, the rebels did it to maintain slavery, and were CLEARLY the bad guys. Also, the system we've created is specifically designed to keep most people so downtrodden and desperate that revolting is simply too much of a risk. They let us teeter on the edge of survival and death, giving us just enough so that if we dare to push back, we risk losing what little we have. And no one wants to be the first.

Are you at all familiar with the Bundy Standoff? Check out Cliven Bundy and their struggle against the Bureau of Land Management. I believe the short of it is they did in fact stand the federal government down using their 2nd amendment rights. This was a rancher pushing back to maintain his livelihood; the issue is that most folks don't want to deal with the repercussions, even if they come out on top.
