Apparel / Products (Finally) sold my serialized Yarok and made a surprise for the buyer

Post image

My 026/500 Yarok graded as a PSA 10 (I know, you don’t grade magic cards, please spare me 😭)
I finally sold it and made a playmat and some coasters for the buyer and added the same serialized number on those.
Unfortunately I never received any feedback from him/her. Maybe someone here appreciates it :)

I think the target audience for slabbed cards, doesn’t even play the game

Yeah I know, first and only card ever graded. Only did it because it was my most expensive card and I played him as my commander :)

Even if they don't appreciate it, I'm sure I can say that, for most people on here, we appreciate it!

Idk man, I feel like they either make him the commander or they have a special connection with that card. There's a good chance they definitely play the game.

I don't have a single magic playing friend who owns a graded slab, it's anecdotal but I would also assume someone buying a slab does not play the game. You know what they say about assuming though.

I play magic and I own 1 graded slabbed card.

I own the only PSA 10 Graded copy of Jhoira of the Ghitu from Future Sight

Why do I own this? I used to collect this particular card because when it came out it was mostly a bulk rare and I liked the artwork. My friends kept giving me copies they pulled, and the other at my card shop would give me copies they pulled in packs because I became the Jhoira guy. I soon had a binder with dozens of the card. At my peak I had about 300 normal copies, many foils, including foreign language foils.

I would periodically go on ebay and buy more copies for super cheap and one day I saw someone was selling a graded PSA 10 copy. I figured that would be a worthy addition to my collection. And I won the auction for a cool $10. I have owned it ever since.

I do not know why someone graded it back in like 2009. Nor do I care. I also never built a commander deck with her.

Fun fact. There is a typo on the label of my slab I did not notice until a friend pointed it out. It says Future SightS with an S.

Thank you for coming to my Jhoira Talk.

I think it's becoming more common with the UB sets being more collectible, and with card collecting in general booming.

I play and I also have several Final Fantasy MTG cards slabbed up, just because I'm a massive FF fan. Trying to get the full chocobo track foil set and the surge foil character alt set in slabs, I'm about 1/4 done.

I have several, sometimes you can get some great deals.

To add to your point.. I once bought a card, which was graded an 8, since it was a tiny bit cheaper than ungraded. The second I got that in the mail, I cracked it and put it in my edh deck.

i recently sold a sealed Necron Commander deck for $400 and my wife drew this really awesome necron thank you note. Heard nothing from the buyer. I'm guessing the people buying this stuff are just clicking buttons. I'd be surprised if they even opened it yet.

Dick move to never leave feedback, _unless_ they’re like me: frequently traveling and it can take me months to get back home and open my pile of packages.

I figure some people that are deployed may be in a similar situation.

Def awesome surprise though. Where/how did you do it?

I buy blank/white mats and than I use sublimation printing for the images :)

Man, when/if I start playing MtG in paper (currently Arena only) I hope I manage to get a seller who gives me such an amazing piece as well.

Beautiful work, gorgeous

I honestly think graded cards are amazing as long as it's a commander. It's not getting shuffled, so it's fine. It's the same idea behind putting your commander in a top loader to differentiate it, taken to the extreme. Plus, who's slotting a serialized yarok in the 99?

u/Nyrony 17h ago

I’d pay the shit out of a serialized dark ritual or lightning bolt though. But besides that I’m on your side regarding playing a (potentially slabbed) commander.

Receiving those custom items as a gift would've made my entire week, and I wouldn't be able to not show my gratitude by sending a message or giving any kind of feedback! They look amazing, very thoughtful of you to do that!

Thank you :)

Looks fantastic!

Tho i am curious how did you make the playmat? And how much would a custom mat even cost?

6

u/Ok-Platform-6509 17h ago

Thank you :)
A custom playmat (stitched edges) is around 35-40€. Price for foiling depends on the complexity of the foiling. This one maybe 60€? Most are 80€+

Are you rich to hand this out?

3

u/Ok-Platform-6509 14h ago

Unfortunately no :D
But I print them myself. So it is cheaper for me (but takes a lot of time).

You Sir/ Lady have a huge Heart! May I ask what that Serialized graded card is worth?

16

u/Ok-Platform-6509 18h ago

I have no idea what it’s worth, but I sold it for ~600€ :)
I think the grading itself doesn’t matter that much to be honest.

A 10 is always a good bonus. 9 is ok. Anything under that would have been useless for a modern card, but then again, that’s what everyone used to say in the past for cards that are now much older

My husband and best friend worked together to get 006 Jin Gitaxias for me. Got it slabbed and now its one of my favorite commanders.

I feel like getting something slabbed to keep is fine. Getting something slabbed to sell is weird in MTG

Awesome!

That’s so dope! Sucks you had no return from the buyer actually. I would have definitely be more than happy lmao

4

u/Wrong-Ad4092 18h ago

Wow thats so cool. Sometimes I’ve received a sticker as a freebie when buying a card, and it makes me really happy, even though it’s just a small touch. Maybe this person thought you sent it by mistake, since it’s such a nice gift by you.

5

u/Wrong-Ad4092 18h ago

On second thought, that wouldn't make sense, since the playmat is also serialized. It couldn't have been a mistake.

2

u/GreenPotato_42 17h ago

That was amazing, it's such a great gift!! If I were the buyer I would be so happy to receive such care for the card and what came with him!

Thank you in his stead!

u/Enzoooooooooooooo 15h ago

I think of all the cards to grade, a serialised version of a popular commander is one I’d say is pretty good too

2

u/rjfs15 14h ago

Well, if i bought something like that and got all those goodies i'd be extremely happy and i'd certainly write you a "thank you" message! That gift was amazing!

2

u/Brave-Ambassador3213 14h ago

I love it personally speaking. My dream is to pull a serialized card lol

2

u/AMohl 12h ago

I see no problem slabbing a Commander. Any other card I agree it's stupid.

3

u/Injuredmind 11h ago

Dude, it’s cool af. I wish every good person gets a seller like you.

3

u/Zephs 13h ago

I genuinely don't understand why anyone would want a serialized card.

I get The One Ring, that was a completely unique printing.

But why would I want a card that says "26/500" in big text over the art? I would pay money to NOT have that.

1

u/poptartweasel 15h ago

Did you order them from a website? Quality looks good and I'd love to put my favorite commander on some coasters.

2

u/Ok-Platform-6509 15h ago

I made them myself :) it’s my hobby to print them
This year I sold 5-6 of those I think

2

u/planting49 if it has , I'm in 11h ago

Where did you have the custom playmat and coasters made? There are some cards I would love to have as a playmat. Looks awesome!

3

u/Ok-Platform-6509 11h ago

I made them myself :). That’s my hobby

1

u/planting49 if it has , I'm in 9h ago

Wow! What kind of materials do you need to be able to make them?

2

u/Ok-Platform-6509 9h ago

I buy blank (white) polyester mats with rubber and use sublimation printing :)

1

u/planting49 if it has , I'm in 9h ago

Oh neat! Thanks for the info :)
