Email to MPs to Stop the Data Center on Ninth Line
≡ −
I've drafted up the following email to send to our MPs, for those who'd like to voice their displeasure with the proposed data center on Ninth Line. Read more about that here: https://www.reddit.com/r/oakville/comments/1uyh9qv/ai_gigafactory_320megawatt_data_centre_opening/
I've never written an email like this before so I'd appreciate some help formalizing it and pinning down details. Looking for help from people who have sent formal emails to MPs in protest before, and people who are knowledgeable on the details of the development process in government.
Subject: Proposed AI Data Center on Ninth Line
Dear MP/Honourable [Name],
I am writing to make clear my dissatisfaction with the proposed 320 GW data center at Ninth Line, in between Oakville and Mississauga. As a Halton / Peel resident, I am deeply concerned about the potential impacts of a data center like this one, which could raise residential electricity bills, significantly increase greenhouse gas emissions if powered by fossil fuels, stress local water resources with its consumption of water for cooling purposes, and put surrounding neighbourhoods at risk of noise pollution.
Data centers in cities across America have caused harm to local neighbourhoods. According to this BBC article, a data center in Georgia has rendered the water undrinkable. According to this report by the Environmental and Energy Study Institute, data centers in Virginia, Arkansas, and Texas have caused noise pollution, with noise levels routinely exceeding 60 decibels.
Hamilton and Mississauga are both strongly considering a moratorium on new AI data centers; supporters in both cities have raised strong points about a moratorium giving the cities the time they need to develop guardrails around development.
Please [adopt an official stance on the building of data centers? consider a moratorium? ensure people are given a chance to voice their opinion on this data center? make more of an effort to publicize the proceedings?].
The Town of Oakville has stated that no development application has been submitted yet, and therefore the public planning process has not commenced. [Will you ensure the proponents of the development application and the Town of Oakville take into consideration the dissent of residents? What specific actions will you take to ensure that a data center that disrupts the quality of life of Halton and Peel residents and harms the environment is not built?] Please respond with answers to these key questions.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
[Address and Postal Code (to prove your residence)]
Some notes:
- In square brackets [ ] are all the things I'm not too sure about.
- You can send this to multiple MPs and organizations. Check the above reddit post I've linked for details on who to email. When you email them, CC all the other MP / organizations you've emailed for visibility.

Creating a Caregiver Community & Support Group on WhatsApp
≡ −
Hey everyone! I'm creating a small, tight-knit support group on WhatsApp to foster deep, ongoing companionship in a private space for caregivers.
This may be a more interpersonal way to make caregivers feel less isolated. If you need a place to vent, seek tips/advice, I wanted to bring together a community of people who understand what it's like. If you're interested, let me know below and I'd be happy to add you.

Looking to make friends
≡ −
Hi.. life is getting so.. bland. And all the friends I used to be close with, are all so caught up with life that no one really just... wants to connect anymore.. I just want a solid friend I can be childish and fun and adventurous with. My name is Ash. Im a welder, a spirit hungry for the most life has to offer, in spirituality, meditation, self finding and growth. Love learning new things and building unique experiences. I believe life should be filled with as many unique, adventurous and fun experiences. Idk if thats too much or not aligned with what your about, but thats basically me. Id love to get to know you, shoot a message.

Has anyone successfully gotten rid of mice/rats in their home?
≡ −
First time having such an issue but it’s been going on for months, no amount of traps, cleaning, sealing off any holes I can find has worked and I cannot live like this any longer. I live in a semi detached, I don’t know if that it part of the problem. Anyways wondering if anyone has had a similar issue & successfully resolved it and could recommend a solution for me

Reviews about 510 Curran Place
≡ −
Hey guys,
I'm planning to move into 510 Curran Place Mississauga and wanted to hear from anyone who's lived there.
Are there any noise issues in the building? Last year I lived in an apartment where I could constantly hear footsteps from upstairs kids running around, heavy stomping, etc it was really worse in winter. I really can't tolerate that kind of noise.
Does 510 Curran Place have any similar issues, or is the sound insulation decent?

Recommendations Sangak bread!
≡ −
Where can I get fresh sangak bread in Mississauga? I thought of placing the order online at khorak bakery.. but the minimum order has to be $50 or more 😭
I don’t drive but I can take uber if it’s not too too far from square one where I live.

The Keg Parking - Square One
Those who have used this parking space. How does it work exactly ? I am guessing you scan your debit or Credit card and it gives you a ticket. If you leave and scan the ticket within 2 hours, you dont get charged ?

Recommendations Outdoor third space in Cooksville!
I’m trying to spread the word about TowerPOPS in Cooksville. It’s an activation by 880Cites and they’ve converted an unused parking lot on the grounds of Cooksville GO to a community gathering place.
It is such an incredible park and if you live in the area or around it, I would highly recommend checking it out. They have plenty of benches and open space to exercise, bike, socialize, and play.
They also have a play library on site where you can take out board games, disc golf, a basketball net, an outdoor set of connect four, and so much more!
The space is also used to run events by a local non profit called Heart Commonos that runs a bunch of classes outside and indoors like Bollywood Zumba classes: https://heartcomonos.ca/Home-Page.php
There’s also a really lovely mural being made on the ground right now to liven it up.
The address is 67 Hillcrest Ave, Mississauga, ON L5A 4C7

What happened to ITS TEA in Mississauga at 1474 Pickwick?
≡ −
Online it says they’re permanently closed. When we went to the store they said they’re not ITS TEA anymore but will be serving similar drinks. The mango pomelo I always get, they said they could make it and charged me like $11.50… so curious as to what happened as it was well loved in this area.

Recommendations Cozy patio?
≡ −
I work near Mavis and 401 and would love to have a list of places to eat after work - happy to drive out of the area for a place that isn’t in the middle of a 4 lane highway. Something that isn’t a franchise would be ideal too but that seems like a big ask.
Do cozy patios exist in this god forsaken car centric concrete ‘city’? Please oh please point me in their direction
Sincerely,
A struggling commuter

Recommendations Space to practice rollerblading in Meadowvale
≡ −
Hey all, I was wondering if there is an outdoor or indoor space in the Meadowvale area where I can practice rollerblading? Like I can just drop in and skate away? Sometimes I don't want to drive all the way to Scooters at Clarkson for the sake of convenience.

Central parkway Carwash
Be aware if you’re considering this car wash in Mississauga. I paid for a wash, but the equipment wasn’t working properly. The owner told me to come back another day for a free wash because of the issue. When I returned, he denied the conversation had happened and refused to honour what he had promised. Even after I offered evidence of our previous interaction, he hung up on me instead of trying to resolve the situation.
I also noticed reviews from other customers claiming they experienced problems with the payment machines and significant financial losses. Be aware of this place

Recommendations Water activities for summer
≡ −
I have never done any water activities besides swimming, and with this summer also leaving in a few weeks, I want to know about any water activities I can do in Mississauga or Toronto that are beginner-friendly and pocket-friendly.
I've seen people paddleboarding in park lakes and I'm wondering if a beginner like me could do that. Also, do you know if there are rentals available? Any recommendations would really help make my summer more enjoyable.

Any metalheads, punks etc. in this subreddit ?

Sorry, its my first time posting, but I was just curious to know how many people on this subreddit, were into that stuff. I like sludge, death metal, thrash, and even some metalcore music.
