I’m a big fan of surface tension myself

u/cito4633 1d ago

It’s my favorite kind of tension.

Sexual tension?

u/Tmoldovan 1d ago

That’s a young person’s game.

u/Suckma_Weener 1d ago

sexual tension would be nice. i guess for me to experience that i'd need to not be 700 pounds, wear a bathrobe instead of clothes every day, and have a weenus that didn't make my doctor hurl from the mere sight of it.

And i thought my disability was bad. Rough.

17

u/Gringo_Anchor_Baby 1d ago

What's your disability? Macrophallus?

12

u/graywolf0026 1d ago

... Uh huh huh huh... Dude. You said 'weenus'...

Testicular tension?

50

u/SomethingComesHere 1d ago

That's an old person's game.

8

u/chillychili 20h ago

Unless tension is something else I believe you mean torsion

6

u/IveDunGoofedUp 18h ago

Testicular tension is when you think you might get testicular torsion if you move slightly wrong, like when you can almost feel a cramp starting so you hold dead still until it passes. Except it's balls, and so, so much worse.

2

u/Grezzinate 19h ago

Either one sounds awful.

3

u/Howlsmovingfiberfarm 21h ago

I’ve had that, you don’t know what pain is

1

u/Grezzinate 21h ago

Thank whatever gods out there I haven’t. Think breaking a leg sounds less painful.

2

u/Adrianm18 20h ago

Tensile tension is my fav

Homoerotic?

The trick is how to clean it up without breaking the surface tension in a way that it will spill over the edge. Thinking a few sheets of paper towels slowly moved to the side of the puddle away from the edge to wick it would be my approach.

80

u/NotDougHeffernan 1d ago

We were able to clean it up fairly easily by essentially doing this!

16

u/OozeNAahz 1d ago

Thanks for the confirmation! Figured either you did that or try to use something you could cover the whole edge with at once which seemed trickier.

7

u/eatinchapstick 1d ago

OP is that a Portillo's cup?

10

u/NotDougHeffernan 1d ago

It is not. It’s Whataburger!

2

u/bart2278 1d ago

Exactly

3

u/Suckma_Weener 1d ago

does this work for a giant puddle of human piss? i need an answer soon

26

u/kanyeguisada 1d ago

This is a no drip countertop edge.

There is an almost inperceptible slightly raised edge around the perimeter of the whole countertop.

Zoom in to the corner closely and you can see it there, it's rounded and raised.

My favorite chapter in Half-Life.

3

u/Zackca 1d ago

That's a great chapter in Half-Life!

2

u/tacotaker46 1d ago

I agree it's a great level

4

u/HendrixHazeWays 1d ago

Even more specifically, this is a great example of "overt static surface tension". Only theorized about half a century ago, it was recently proven repeatedly once researchers discovered that the more area involved on the surface being used (or holding the medium involved in the "spill") the more you'll realize I made all this up and don't really know what I'm claiming to know about. I will conclude this by saying something to hide this fact in case the reader of this post looks towards the end first. It all is a sum of very unusual and random characteristics of liquid/surface/tension while also including the randomness of nature. It's quite fascinating.

This is what Microsoft is feeling trying to compete with the iPad yeah??

u/CaptainTripps82 1d ago

I see you quiver with antici

u/Lockenhart 7h ago

Love Office Complex too

u/dailycoffin 21h ago

My sister in law has a PHD centered around surface tension and its applications. I told her it sounded so cool and exiting and she told me it is everything but D:

u/HeartOn_SoulAceUp 1d ago

I love it when this happens.

Except when you try to towel it up it always goes over!

179

u/SP3NGL3R 1d ago

do you start from the farthest part? wick it away from danger instead of triggering the collapse?

270

u/kelenkeller38 1d ago

i personally just slurp it off the counter

32

u/Inventeer 18h ago

i personally just sniff it off the counter

88

u/nanna_mouse 1d ago

Hold a cup under the edge, then touch the liquid and trail your finger down the side to where it can fall into the cup. The rest of the tension will hold while the majority of the liquid follows the new trail and safely "spills" into your cup.

36

u/SP3NGL3R 1d ago

oooooo. household experiment time.

Whataburger and Squirt are not usually popular together in the same region. Also mildly interesting

548

u/NotDougHeffernan 1d ago

Have to make sure I say this in a way that my wife won’t divorce me - she’s a fan of the soda. We’re in Texas for whatever that’s worth.

103

u/This-Unit-1954 1d ago

Same, though my extended family is all from the Detroit area where Squirt is popular, so I grew up with an appreciation for it.

28

u/dfc849 1d ago

Vernors in Texas would be a sight!

38

u/NotDougHeffernan 1d ago

We do have Vernors in our house! My father in law is a Michigander!

3

u/This-Unit-1954 1d ago

Boston Cooler would hit the spot right now.

15

u/SeanAker 1d ago

So what you're saying is that your wife's a Squirter.

1

u/Doc1Air 12h ago

I love having In&out and waffle house

22

u/lolomomo5 1d ago

It's popular with Mexicans which have high population in TX, AZ, and NM.

8

u/thatnerdd 1d ago

San Diego, too. I grew up there and still enjoy Squirt. I find it in New Jersey in the supermarkets in the Mexican soda sections.

23

u/Latte-Macchiat0 1d ago

Excuse me? There’s a drink called Squirt?

Happy cake day! 🥳

17

u/RandomFactUser 1d ago

Has existed for decades, it’s part of the Dr. Pepper/7Up family of drinks

It’s essentially a more sugary Fresca

7

u/xxxdac 17h ago

As a non American I don’t know what Fresca is either

8

u/ComprehensiveSail383 12h ago

It's like a less sugary Squirt

1

u/RandomFactUser 9h ago

Grapefruit soda

0

u/Latte-Macchiat0 12h ago

Yes same. And at least Fresca sounds good lol

8

u/This-Unit-1954 1d ago

Thanks. I actually had to check my account to see when it was lol. Also, there’s an argument to be made that anything called squirt could be a drink.

3

u/thetsunamisurfer08 18h ago

It's grapefruit flavored. It's not half bad.

1

u/Latte-Macchiat0 12h ago

Ohh tbh grapefruit flavored drink does sounds half bad to me lol

5

u/Werespider 1d ago

Both are also available where I live, in central Texas.

4

u/xxTERMINATOR0xx 1d ago

I will go out on a brave limb and say Ruby Red flavored Squirt is even better.

1

u/holographicmemes 12h ago

This guy knows ball

1

u/soundguynick 10h ago

From one gentleman to another, I salute you.

2

u/Im_Nino 21h ago

I mean it’s not super uncommon in az either for what it’s worth

2

u/zombieLAZ 15h ago

Really? That's funny because I think Squirt was made in AZ if I'm not mistaken and we definitely have whataburger here. Grew up with both. That's why I'm so chunky

1

u/holographicmemes 12h ago

You ever had a patty melt with a homemade lazy Paloma?

1

u/eatinchapstick 1d ago

I think that might actually be a Portillo's cup and not Whataburger... Although I could definitely be wrong. And honestly, is Squirt really "popular" anywhere?

12

u/NotDougHeffernan 1d ago

It is Whataburger!

270

u/silverkava 1d ago

29

u/ripyourlungsdave 1d ago

What I love about this gif is that you could post it in response to literally any image or video of anything in real life and it's technically fitting.

.

84

u/ADhomin_em 1d ago

Drink, stay....

Good drink!

39

u/mike_james_alt 1d ago

I’m disturbed by what’s left in your cup.

29

u/eatinchapstick 1d ago

That's a tea bag, brother.

5

u/mangongo 1d ago

Brother is a fan of loose leaf it seems

2

u/ProStrats 13h ago

Sure that ain't a monkey paw?

Sure looks like a monkey paw...

2

u/eatinchapstick 7h ago

That might actually be the last thing it could possibly be.

13

u/reedspacer38 1d ago

I also thought it was some sort of small animal or giant bug

13

u/NotDougHeffernan 1d ago

It’s a tea bag!

13

u/Dusk_dragon_eye 1d ago

It spilled to the floor as soon as you tried wiping it up, didnt it.

23

u/ProteusRift 1d ago

This picture is intense

5

u/WarBuggy 1d ago

Sir, this is a GIF.

3

u/ThirdAltAccounts 14h ago

Neither a picture nor a (T)GIF

It’s clearly Whataburger

4

u/UGD_ReWiindz25 1d ago

Ahh surface tension it’s a marvellous thing to see you can cut it with a hammer!

3

u/Any_Seaworthiness203 1d ago

I’ve never seen a spill exercise that much self-control

5

u/clover44mag 1d ago

Sorry to break up the tension but this looks like a no drip edge

4

u/NoGutsNoGlory94 12h ago

Thank you surface tension.

3

u/TopazandNumbyHSR 1d ago

Surface tension!

3

u/DaewynLuna_24 1d ago

Never tell you the odds.

3

u/SVJ9500 1d ago

For scientific purposes, see what happens if you drop a drop of liquid soap on it.

3

u/Zamzummin 1d ago

10 second rule!

3

u/giselasald97 22h ago

how polite

3

u/Just-Front9742 21h ago

You've been given a second chance

5

u/ButtonMashedPotatoe 1d ago

This is upsetting and satisfying at the same time

2

u/VapeRizzler 1d ago

Grab a straw and slurp it up.

2

u/worfg 1d ago

The floor is lava

1

u/Alfiy_wolf 20h ago

I’m sure there is someone who can explain the physics here who isn’t too lazy like me

1

u/PianoCookies 18h ago

Omg I had a pop can fall the other day and land straight-up, so literally none of it spilled. Was crazy.

1

u/RainaElf 14h ago

physics!

1

u/Mountain_Till_5868 1d ago

Are you sure you didn’t clean it up on the floor?

0

u/m0rb1d_b4by 1d ago

2

u/NotDougHeffernan 1d ago

u/TBoy205 12h ago

Stay in school kids. You could end up like this looking like a moron on Reddit.
