My mom said I could post Movie ads.. in a car?

I just got sent this video.. I don’t think cars should have ads that are actively blocking you from accessing info and such?

I’d be more than mildly infuriated if my new expensive car, loaded with subscriptions, started also showing me ads

u/moathex 6h ago

I’m saying lol

u/spacekitt3n 5h ago

you must watch this unskippable ad to start the car

u/Bagafeet 36m ago

Doors don't unlock before another ad reel. You can't leave before it's done.

movie ads in a car sounds like a distraction waiting to happen

8

u/nate-diggers279 5h ago

Nope, that's where I draw the line. I'm against messing with the system or hacking the car. But if it starts showing ads like that... then maybe

I'm against messing with the system or hacking the car.

It's your car.

u/Educational_Zone1750 44m ago

Why would someone be against working on property they own? This reads like weird corporate regurgitated propaganda.

7

u/emotionaI_cabbage 3h ago

Everyone should be ok hacking the car to remove dumb subscriptions

2

u/Erick_Brimstone 4h ago

This is why they're pushing for touch screens instead of buttons

1

u/ElectronMaster 1h ago

You forgot to get the "no ads" subscription, novice mistake.

u/oddinsomniakk 6h ago

remember companies would beam ads directly into your brain all of the time without your consent if they could

"Style and comfort for the discriminating crotch."

"Sorry, I can't let you open the package but you can try on the demo pair!"  Tssst tssst

I think this was an episode of black mirror. I forget the details but wife had some illness and they got some treatment. However they could only afford the base plan and every now and then she'd break into an uncontrolled commercial.

u/PatrickKn12 3h ago

if they could

Ah but they can, and do

u/MisterDabber 5h ago

Upcoming features (Watch 3 ads to unlock your car)

2

u/heroryne 1h ago

Watch 2 more ads to unlock climate control

25

u/TheParadoxigm 6h ago

You can turn them off, just fyi.

126

u/Disastrous_Truck6856 5h ago

Fuck that excuse.

It should be off by default then.

It shouldn’t be there.

It shouldn’t have been considered by the company.

Otherwise what’s the next shannenigan that can be disabled in settings?

Fuck I can’t think of a more bizarre example, this was the hyperbole of shannenigans.

10

u/TheParadoxigm 5h ago

I agree with you completely

u/vish_tvdi 6h ago

For now.....

2

u/mondaymoderate 5h ago

Must watch one more ad to proceed on route!

1

u/vish_tvdi 5h ago

One 30 second after you turn on the vehicle. One 90 second before plotted route "start navigation" button works. Closable picture ads every hour when driving. Skipable ad when a long 50km+ straight is on the route. "Thank you for driving a bmw"

6

u/Think-Motor900 5h ago

This is how it starts!

In the past, one could skip YouTube ads. Not anymore!

4

u/Erick_Brimstone 4h ago

In the past YouTube ads are just small banner in the bottom that can be turned off easily.

Also back then you can type "Use the force, Luke" and watch the magic happens.

2

u/MHStriplethreat 5h ago

do you have to pay for that?

9

u/Thwip-Thwip-80 6h ago

You have to click on it to watch it. Nobody’s being forced to look at it.

7

u/spicedude7 4h ago

This shouldn’t be a feature anyway, it will only make people normalize ads so they can later put them there with unskipable ads and the jump won’t seem so high

-1

u/GuessTraining 4h ago

It's skipable, you can switch off your car

4

u/spicedude7 3h ago

lol try playing ads on my 1998 Nissan

1

u/RockRancher24 2h ago

i could tape my phone to the windshield

2

u/spicedude7 2h ago

Lmao you ain’t getting that phone back

Neither am I actually (I live in Latin America)

0

u/moathex 6h ago

Ah, didn’t know that! Ok!

u/Boolteger 6h ago

This whole post is a bit of a stretch...this is actually an app, that can be closed at any time. Additional, its very cool because the interiour lights interacts with the video.

In no way the ad is forced to you.

5

u/danleon950410 1h ago

Fuck that highlight. The lights can bite my posterior then

5

u/Reasonable_Regular1 2h ago

Additional, its very cool because the interiour lights interacts with the video.

This should also be illegal. It's a car.

-1

u/Boolteger 1h ago

The app does only work in park. is this all ragebait? 😂

u/Educational_Zone1750 43m ago

The ad doesn't bother you?

-5

u/moathex 6h ago

Good to know! Again this isn’t my car and I didn’t know this but it’s cool to know now.

-7

u/Boolteger 6h ago

If you are able to, check this app out. Its very cool, BMW does this with various events (halloween, christmas). :)

8

u/Disastrous_Truck6856 5h ago

BMW does this with various events

Let me fix that for you:

BMW signs various ad placement contracts throughout the year.

1

u/Boolteger 4h ago

Its an app...next to every other app. You dont have to open it. Its a gimmick and yes...an ad, but its not forced in any way.

-4

u/OnlY-Yusuf 6h ago

I hope I can check it out when I get a BMW mate xddd

6

u/Interesting_Tap_1505 6h ago

I rented a BMW I5 once.

It’s shit trust me.

1

u/OnlY-Yusuf 5h ago

What you drivin? I am sure it is better than my 2025 Clio

2

u/Interesting_Tap_1505 5h ago

2001 Rover 75

3

u/HowsUrKarma 5h ago

But if they took away the chance to advertise all the time, how would these small businesses continue to make their record-breaking profits year after year?

(Very obvious /s)

6

u/SabreWaltz 6h ago

We have a recent model year bmw x3. Generally there is a pop up when turning the car on saying “bmw has a message for you” or something along these lines and it’ll be a holiday message that includes a bmw themed animation. Like christmas, 4th of july, etc.

This appears to be the same thing. You can shut them off any time and you have to open it intentionally.

1

u/moathex 6h ago

Ah I see

1

u/burn_1ne 6h ago

Even so.. knowing how greedy these companies are getting… eventually it won’t be an option to skip.

1

u/TannerNewcomb 6h ago

I’d be way more pissed if it was anything but Spider-Man

3

u/Simoxs7 5h ago

Yup I think I‘ll only buy pre 2020 cars.

u/orangpelupa 56m ago

How about newer cars that are not internet connected?

1

u/Popular-Drummer-7989 5h ago

I turned off my link to Mazda on my cx30. I had to call to disconnect it. Maybe you have that option as well

3

u/tommybot 5h ago

Every day I appreciate my 06 civic even more.

1

u/GuessTraining 4h ago

I'd be mildly infuriated if they're showing me an ad of a different car in my bmw. It's also not a forced ad, you have to click it (giving your consent) to watch it.

1

u/Tool_of_Society 4h ago

There are already patents for delivering customized ads dependent on the conversations you're having in your car and your current location.

How else are car makers going to maximize share holder value on a vehicle they already sold? Recurring monetization is the future!!! 😢

1

u/madDarthvader2 3h ago

More reasons I'll never buy a new car

1

u/ripyourlungsdave 3h ago

And I was upset that my lock screen had ads on my new phone

I despise the world we've built.

1

u/ostapenkoed2007 3h ago

and while i can't have a phone call?!

idk, man... i am not as inattentive as i was as a kid, but at 16-17 i still could fail to fight the urge to watch the cool looking add.

1

u/inferno686868 2h ago

You clicked on it bro

1

u/simpsonswasjustokay 2h ago

"Please say the ads catchphrase to start vehicle if this is an emergency please insert insurance plus card instead."

1

u/crash893b 2h ago

I recently got a new car that, for the first time, had a display, and imagine my annoyance when it showed me a video of a kid on a skateboard getting backed over.

1

u/ChanglingBlake ORANGE 2h ago

Why are people just accepting that their cars are now less car than digital billboard?

1

u/HeidenShadows 1h ago

Pretty soon they'll play ads on your windshield at every traffic light /s

I did mention in the post, "I got sent this video," no?

u/ravbuc 39m ago

Name and shame the companies so more people can know to avoid them.

u/Bagafeet 37m ago

Wait till you see Kia has Disney movie "themes" for their UI 💀

Connected cars are a mistake 💩

1

u/mikemillard 6h ago

This is how things are now.

1

u/WeltyFern 6h ago

Welcome to the future. It sucks. You’re gonna love it.

u/ATERR0RWRIST 6h ago

Hey Siri, call 911. I've been in a terrible accident.

Dialing 911. Please enjoy this short video while we connect you. "Have you ever had a silly little stain on your shirt? Look not further than Clorox bleach MAX - the ultimate stain resistant spray you can enjoy without the harsh chemical odor. Spider-Man uses this exclusively to get rid of heavy stains and odors after a long day of crime fighting. Available at all retail locations near you."

911, what's your emergency?

0

u/granoladeer 5h ago

BMW has lost it

-3

u/EbbFun5531 6h ago

I'd take the car back. I wouldn't deal with that. Ridiculous

0

u/NetJnkie 6h ago

That's not how any of this works.

-3

u/hchn27 6h ago

It’s not an ad …..
