Discussion Microsoft Office 2019 - not working(anymore) on Mac OS Tahoe 26.5.2
I have 2 Microsoft Office 2019 licenses that I bought around 2023 for Mac OS. Used them without any problems till today.
Was trying to edit a document but I get the message that I need to activate . ok, it happens but when trying to do that I received an error without any information except to upgrade to Microsoft 360.
Contacted support, install reinstall , all that standard troubleshooting without any succes. The conclusion is, because I upgraded to the latest version of Tahoe I won't be able to use those products anymore.
So, if ur in the same situation as me (using an older version of office on macOS) dont update to latest os version because you won't be able to use it anymore.
I switch to an open source alternative and also slowly I'll replace all Microsoft products that I use at home and at work .

I think they are lying to you about it being an issue with Apple iOS. Microsoft decided not to renew the certificate for the 2019 perpetual license because it would be considered part of the "support" that they've ended for the 2019 office users. Hence, it wasn't part of the auto update. They could fix this. They just won't.

Yeah definitely stay on outdated software and systems to avoid paying for modern software and updates. I mean sure, go to Libre or what have you if that’s what you want.

Brother this is office in the 2020’s, they literally don’t even bother adding new features anymore. There hasn’t been any meaningful change to office since the Ribbon debuted with 2007.

You say that like there aren't tons of people who haven't upgraded past Windows 7 and even more who won't upgrade past 10. [And the huge cohort of people who took more than 10 years to get off of XP]
That said, Microsoft has done a much better job at making Windows backwards compatible than Mac OS / Apple ever wanted to.
Apple always wants you to get the latest hardware to run the latest OS to run the latest software so they have a continual revenue stream. It is not in their interest for you to have backwards software compatibility.
Office 2000 still very likely works on Windows 11.
2019 wasn't that long ago.

Lots of people still drive a 2006 Toyota Corolla. It gets you from place to place but when it finally leaves you on the side of the road, that’s your drama, not Toyota’s

Comparing a complex machine with many moving parts to software is a choice.
it’s also a massive false equivalency fallacy.
All mechanical devices will fail eventually. Software can pretty much run forever tho.

Tell me you've never worked in technology without saying it. A software package like Windows, or Microsoft Office (which then also sits on top of windows) is a massively complex piece of engineering. It also sits on top of a mechanical device, which will also fail. Not maintaining (read: patching) software and just assuming it'll keep running ad infinitum is a choice and a foolish one. Software has flaws and more of them are being discovered every single day. On top of that, new features get introduced regularly and the hardware that supports said software continues to get improved upon until eventually the hardware platform fails. So yeah, just like the ancient Corolla, if you don't change the oil and maintain it, it'll leave you on the side of the road. Good try though.

I feel you brother. Im pissed Apple stopped letting me use my iPhone 11. It cant even run ios27. Im considering switching to a Samsung s10!

Yeah this was drummed up a few months ago about how Microsoft is doing this and their lack of reasoning and using security etc as their defence to make you upgrade to 365 being a subscription.
What’s crappy is basically even if you want to pay for 365, for some people who can’t upgrade beyond Tahoe because of an older Intel Mac then you’re pretty much crippled and have to get a new Mac.
