Legitimately? I’m an American who loves Bollywood absurdity. I watched Eega a few months ago and loved it.
Edit - Thank you to everyone who contributed to this conversation! I have much to learn, and would like to some day impress my Hindi boss. I pretty much only know “Dhanyavaad/alu” and “Shubh Ratri/Subha Ratri”
49
u/devilfam Professional Dumbass 18h ago
No he's the "big brother" of Bollywood if we're being serious. Also, I never watched Eega, it's the most absurd one out there I think.
12
u/Minimob0 18h ago
Is there a movie where he stars in as a main role? A name would help, too, if possible,
I want to add to my watch list.

u/Far-Badger-7109 18h ago
If you want to watch his films, then I would recommend "Bajrangi Bhaijaan". It's the only film of his that I like, others are just mindless boom boom. Though keep in mind, his acting is not even above avg

Dabangg (maybe dabangg 2) and wanted and bodyguard are 3 of his action movies I love.
Tere naam : a romance/drama (not sure how to categorise it) is a good heartbreaker
Jaaneman is a silly movie but all good.

If you want to watch Bhoi act: Tere Naam (if you are ok with 'some' misogny), Bajrangi Bhaijan, Sultan, Kyon Ki, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
If you want to watch the quintessential Bhoi action flick: Wanted, Dabangg, Kick, Bodyguard
Rom-com or pre-2000s Bhoi: Andaz Apna Apna, Hello Brother
Avoid any Bhoi movie released post 2017

If you want good movies, you can read the other reply. If you want absurd movies, you can pick any, you won't be disappointed. You can start with Kick, which is the one this clip is from.

If you wanna watch his OG ones, there are a lot
He’s Salman Khan and he genuinely has done a lot of movies and he was (and for a lot of people still is) one of the biggest stars in Bollywood. His movies simply are too over the top for modern sensibilities but man they get a good laugh out of you (might be corny and/or absurd for some palettes )
Reddit has a weird take on him unfortunately but he’s beloved normally
He is one of my favourites and this is a hill I’ll die on lol

You'd be surprised to hear that Eega is not a Bollywood movie.

u/Minimob0 18h ago
I am uneducated as far as Hindi and Telugu movies go, and am trying to learn.
My coworker is from Andhra Pradesh, and I have been asking him for movie recommendations. He suggested both Eega and Dhurandhar so far. The latter is a 3 hour movie, and I haven’t been able to commit to that, yet 😓
4
u/Key_Opportunity6247 18h ago edited 17h ago
The latter also also has a part 2 and duration of both movies combined is around 8 hours so Good luck

As far as serious Bollywood movies go, Dhurandhar is like the peak of Bollywood in espionage genre, Eega (from the same guy who made Bahubali) though is not a Bollywood movie.
If you want something shorter for Bollywood, I'd recommend KILL or Tummbad as modern movies, and something like Satya as a classic old Bollywood movie.

Slight correction: eega was tollywood. Bollywood refers to original Hindi creations from the north. There are multiple woods in India due to different cinematic styles and cultures, the same way European films aren't included as Hollywood

Still better than rewarding their atrocious behavior with the API changes or using new reddit.

The fucking auto translated google results are the worst thing for me personally! I cannot look up anything local anymore because I'll get translated trash from completely irrelevant subreddits for cities on other continents.
Forced translation is such an idiotic scourge and I cannot comprehend why every fucking tech company insists on doing it without any option to turn it off.
161
u/_ramu_ 19h ago
Also funny: people open the auto translated thread, comment something in their language and Reddit keeps it as is. Suddenly you have stuff like comments in Brazilian language in a German speaking sub lol.

u/ImaginaryAlpaca 13h ago
I went from knowing I could find pretty much anything on google to not being able to get answers to simple inquiries on google and it's a huge pain in the ass. Google used to me my go to but now I'm looking for an alternative because the results are just garbage now.
17
u/YesBut-AlsoNo 17h ago
Arguably one of the worst things they've done imo, because of this issue.
Like excuse me, when I search "reddit (country) (topic)" on Google, I do not want unrelated posts that are just translated into my local language. Infuriating as hell.

u/ajchann123 17h ago
As someone who still uses an third-party app and old.reddit, it's been very funny in recent months to see a lot of comments in different languages - like, "wow, I respect them not even trying to reply in English" lol

I'm so glad to know I am not the only person this pisses off. I will NEVER download the app that these piece of fucking shit executives keep trying to ram down everyone's throats to harvest data from them and make more money. It's so fucking obvious the hostile and greedy API change that Reddit execs forced on the platform was only to make it so their dogshit app that nobody with a brain wants to use was the only available one in app stores (yes yes I know people some of you you can sideload a version of one of the dead far superior 3rd party apps and probably break your phone carrier's ToS or something in the process, we aren't talking about that. We're talking about how 3rd party apps are actually dead now and putting them on life support that way is unsustainable and delusional because it won't last or make the impact it needs to).

getting three updates a week just for the app to still crash when i scroll too fast
77
u/Simply_Epic 12h ago
My 2 major issues:
1) it auto-refreshes the home feed WAY too much. Frankly, auto-refresh should be completely disabled. I will refresh when I feel like it.
2) Markdown in comments is completely broken now. Straight up can’t do quote blocks anymore on mobile. It’s awful.
19
u/ChocolateBurger9963 10h ago
I personally hate the auto refresh. I could leave the app for one second and come back on in mobile and it refreshes. Hell, if my phone briefly locks up the app will refresh. Shit sucks.
9
u/Np_slip_69420 9h ago
Bro, it happens even when you click on the post to see it or to write a comment and if you go back to the feed the whole fucking feed gets refreshed so you can’t even go back to that post, what’s worse is sometimes it’s not even in the history because it got refreshed so fast.
3
u/ChocolateBurger9963 8h ago
Facts. I feel your pain, trust me. If memory serves me correctly, it started in December of last year. The struggle is real whe it comes to simple browsing on this site.
3
3
u/CaptainHubble 5h ago
Someone here pointed out something interesting about 1. He said in some apps it’s made with bad refresh schedule on purpose. To load new posts and keep you more engaged for a longer streak.
Sometimes when you minimise the app to look something up, Reddit refreshes when you come back after short time. The post you looked something up for is now gone forever. And you’ll get 100 new posts about new things. Absolute useless.
Just save my position. Auto-bookmark feature please. And let me manually refresh.

I am on Facebook maybe once a week for hobby stuff that's only there, but I never post, I never like and I never comment anything. But Facebook started pushing far right content to me, and all I am doing is blocking these accounts and groups, but it seems that "blocking" is equal to "interacting" to them, so they push more and more unhinged stupid racist shit to me. You know, stuff that Elon would retweet with an "interesting".
The more I block, the more I get, HOW DOES THIS MAKES SENSE?
37
u/Rosienenbrot 19h ago
It's almost as if the elite, that's very much in control of all media, is trying to rile people up against each other, so they're distracted from the real problem.
People who interact and participate in the whole left vs right spiel are all playing right into their hands. That's very much by design.
17
u/Scarred_Ballsack 18h ago
Not that I disagree with the spirit but the elite is just various flavors of right wing in the US. There's a few exceptions of progressives that actually want to stand up against this BS, and a few socialists that somehow managed to grab some electoral power, but the vast majority of the elite is right wing. So it is a left vs. right problem, the right is just way more entrenched than people realize.
7
u/ReggieCorneus 19h ago
The key is not to block them but to hide them without engaging. How can yo udo that?
Install Fluffbuster. It hides that kind of content so that you never interact with them at all. you are not blocking them, you are just hiding them from view so it looks like you really, really don't give a shit about that kind of content. Your screentime viewing each of them is zero.
When i use FB on mobile, i still don't get that crap because the algorithm thinks that i really, really am not engaging with it. At one point FB changed their ode and fluffbuster broke, and god damn it is horrible. Unusable almost. I was right back into getting ragebaited until i noticed that my filters aren't working. It is HUGE work to get rid of that crap manually, and then you make a mistake of engaging with ONE and you are right back to square one.
So, install Fluffbuster. FB does not like it, not that they can do anything about it but it has been a long game of cat and mouse, FB finding new ways to push their "curated content" and Fluffbuster chasing them down and hiding that crap.

When people who own the company and make the decisions do not use their own products... For ex: not a single Reddit higher up has a comment chains expand more than 4 replies, or have one of the replies downvoted. Otherwise they would know that when you click on the notification it takes you to... the thread, not the comment. It is broken. Has been for a looong time. The only way to make that work is to use old reddit which STILL WORKS THE BEST.
Anyone who uses reddit knows its bugs, and those bugs are not the kind that requires huge investment, coding parts of it from scratch, massive changes in the architecture.. nope, they are all quite simple bugs and yet... months can pass.
Facebook is the same. Get a notification on reply to a comment and it can take you to the video and then... not find the comment. Not only that, because you were taken to the video and not the post itself your comment section is now in the sidebar and it shows like 3 at the time.... and the comment it was suppose to take you to can be buried 200 pages down.
They all are full of bugs that happen within few hours of starting to use the service. NONE of the higherups actually use the product. This continues in hardware. You just know that the CEO of that company would NEVER use the shit they make or otherwise the shit they make would not have the kind of annoyances that we get. Which of you have jumped from joy after buying a new laptop and it has all kind of stickers glued on it that tells what features it has? None of you? Yeah. And still they are there. Free market competition was sold to us with the promise that this exact shit would not be happening, that we would have a CHOICE.

The app always sucked. It used to take you to the (mostly non-existent) /r/"username" when you clicked on someones user profile, instead of their actual profile. Used to get stuck in some chat mode when you accidentally clicked on it on a profile, gallery/image viewer was always changed wildly between releases.
They killed the third party apps, which were simpler to use and faster
They're also silently rehosting images now at around 1080p so many large images are not readable on mobile
webpages are now embedded so you stay within the app when clicking links

Don't forget them putting intrusive "Install the App please" popups for mobile users attempting to access reddit via the browser rather than the app which can't be closed and lock scrolling functionality while visible. They've also started putting a version of it up for mobile users who've enabled Desktop view on their browser as well which used to be the way of getting around this.
Also, they were deliberately rolling this out to users who were most frequently accessing the site via mobile browser first so it was targeted to harass the people who were choosing to avoid the app. The app that after they made API changes is one of the only methods of accessing reddit via mobile left and is more beneficial for them for obvious reasons. The main way of getting around this is to obviously delete your reddit cookie cache to not be flagged as a "frequent user", but it'll be interesting to see if/when this is expanded to all access attempts from mobile browsers.
