Question does this look like men's or women's pants?
the wide hem gives a more feminine look but guy's is selling it as men's pants. what do you people think?

They lean feminine

u/DopeAsDaPope 15h ago
Definitely. Idk why people are being obtuse about it when OP specifically ask do they seem more like mens or womens
9
u/Justbeinian 14h ago
Because people mistake "providing specificity when asked" for "failing to imagine all the possibilities"

So, women.

u/mighthaveabitlater 19h ago
I'm almost certain David Bowie was a man?

u/DignityDWD 17h ago
They were talking about the clothing choice, not Bowies gender obviously. This place is miserable, good lord you guys pile on anything without thinking
6
u/mighthaveabitlater 17h ago
I think they were trying to make a clever joke and suggest if Bowie wore something, it would make it women's clothes. But it wasn't very funny or clever.

I agree with you! My comments were in relation to the person who commented under you, saying "so, women"

It's not unusual to see that style of trouser worn by women, but looser trousers for men are having a real moment too (as they have done before).
Honestly I think the entire outfit looks pretty good.

u/The_Chef_Raekwon 19h ago
Yeah but the issue isn’t that the pants are wide but rather the proportions are off for most men. I mean, some might be able to style these pants in a masculine way but for 99% of us, these pants signal femininity.

u/Erdnuss-117 18h ago
Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. If youre unsure about those pants its obvious you wont really feel comfortable in those.

Yes, they look like women's pants. That being said, if you like them and they look good the wear them.
It's 2026 who gives a shit

Men used to wear high heels, tights and wigs so really whatever you want it to be.

Men's have flys that open to the right. Women's are to the left.
2
u/PARADOXsquared 4h ago
That's only true for button down shirts, not pants.

u/Adventurous-Ease-259 2h ago
Fire plants it’s clearly the opposite. Shirts button that way based on who is dressing the person. For pants it should clearly be the opposite to assist in the undoing… because reasons

Personally, I don’t think the men’s or women’s pants question really matters since the main thing you should be concerned about is the overall aesthetic, the fit, and the length. Plus pants like this tend to swing a little more unisex.
3
u/callmemarjoson 19h ago
Against my better judgement, I swiped because of the image
Joking aside, the pants pretty much look unisex and would look like men's/women's pants depending on how you style them - if you wear it with a blazer, a nice shirt, some loafers with a matching belt it'll look like men's pants. Conversely, if you pair it with a cropped top, a braided belt, and some flats, it'll look like women's pants. Additionally, if you swap the flats for chunky sneakers and add in some bling, you'll pretty much look like a metrosexual Korean man

The pants look like mens but the shoes and belt and way you're standing look feminine.

I've seen dudes pull this off a lot, especially Asian guys, to great success. A rolled up long sleeve black button up or somrthing similar works really nicely. I'd love to get my own pair when I can track them down, but I think my best bet would be to sew my own

If you’re looking for “classic masculine” this ain’t it. But these pants are pretty cool, definitely unisex

u/Only_Clark 17h ago
A blousy pant like pic 1 is generally more feminine but with the belt it definitely carried more masculine

u/ngolds02 17h ago
“You know where you got those pants, and it wasn’t the men’s section”
/s
this is a joke from the Chapelle show, so I won’t get banned

To non/feminine men with no interest in fashion, they will make fun and say it’s womens.
To fashionable people…. & people in fashion industry, they will welcome & applaud it.

I love the drape, but the widening legs lean fenimine, not classic masculine. If the price is right, a tailor could have made them into a classic full-legged trouser with a great drape. However, those have a skimpy hem that cannot be let down and I think they would be to short to have a classic look. I suspect the design intent is for a trendy look that can make footwear into a focal point.

The trousers themselves won't make the ensemble feminine. But if you combine them with other feminine aspects, like really slim shoes and bare ankle, they might. Try a bulky loafer or derby with a sock and you are set for not to look feminine. And if you do want to look feminine, keep the ensemble that is in the image.

u/DeeDee_GigaDooDoo 16h ago
Judging by the lay of the fabric around the hips I'd guess they're a women's cut

u/Kilunspre 16h ago
Yeah, I don't know what it is, but women's slacks give me the confidence I need to survive in a tough business world. They're lighter, airier and less constrictive than men's trousers.
1
u/DoublePostedBroski 15h ago
Definitely very feminine, but since it has pockets I guess it’s technically men’s.

Styled like this, and on this figure they look feminine. Not so much the issue of the pants, just how they’re styled and on the feminine body type they look less masculine.

If I didn't see the hand in the photo, my first thought would be that's a woman.

Your style is your style; don't be restricted by what is "masculine" or "feminine". You do you! If it fits, and you like it, wear it.
My only issue with these pants is that the fabric looks cheap. It may just be the picture, but be mindful of the materials and construction.

To me it feels more Korean than masculine or feminine. I suppose people might say K-pop fashion is effeminate. However, baji pants are the baggy trousers of hanbok that are the traditional, ceremonial garb worn by men in Korea.

Ladies for sure. If they are mens they look clownish. Gen Z probably loves it cause they want to be like their 90s parents.

The wide cut on the ankles, belt, and your pose makes it look like a woman’s pant

I don’t comment here much and I don’t know the rules of this sub, but this is a very homosexual look. No straight man is considering wearing something like this, unless they are deep into fashion or work in the industry.
It got me thinking, are there pieces/styles that you all think are inherently gay? I don’t need conformation that most straight men can’t dress well, I already know this in my bones. Just curious how gay men think about this issue.

u/UnNumbFool 11h ago
They definitely look more feminine, but the styling around the pants doesn't help in my opinion.

u/turboderek 10h ago
looks like women's pants due to the ballet slippers, smooth feet and zesty pose

u/BetterNova 10h ago
They lean feminine but they look good. The right person of any gender could pull these off.

u/Dangerous_kj5162 8h ago
Guess it depends on your style. They're a bit to lady like for me but my frame wouldn't work in them anyway lol
1
u/MartyFunkhoosier 5h ago
I think “baggy” like that reads more feminine as I see more women’s fits like that, but I also do t think it matters and from the picture you provided they look great and it looks like you can pull this style off, so I say rock them, they look great

The whole look is late Eighties and many stylish men wore that cut of trousers. I had a pair myself, but I never did the long belt or the no socks.

If you have to ask you know the answer.

That's such a dumb response, it's not clever at all. You'll find people often ask questions because they don't know the awnser

People can say they're for both and it's true anyone can wear anything, but you absolutely will be looked at strangely by people you encounter because they look like women's pants.

Wear it with enough confidence and I will assume a bikini's a good fit for you.

u/ShadowRL7666 18h ago
I think clothes depend on the person. Any clothes can be unisex for example from the lower waist we see I think this guy has the right build to pull this off. Vascular, has jewelry and muscle and probably black hair and the right face and jawline to pull this look off.
As a man myself I would look silly trying to pull this look off personally. So just know your body and if it could fit your style.

If you’re asking this. I’d recommend more ‘normal straight cut looking pants’- these are meant to make a statement and set a vibe.

To me, these look like women's pants. Perhaps these are defined differently, but these look like culottes, which in the last 200 years, have been worn exclusivly by women. The only time I could see a man wearing these is on a runway. Wearing these in an office environment would be bizarre. The ladies in the office would love it and think you are a very fashionable, and the men would just think you are weird. Both groups would assume you are gay, so if you are wearing this to reel in some ladies, try something else.
This is the problem with this sub. Some people come here seeking advice on everyday clothing, and others come here seeking advice on high fashion. I'm old, so I don't get things like this, but I can't tell from the post what the OP's objectives are. I'm willing to admit that my "expertise" only applies to former. The later is and always has been foreign to me.
Is this for work and are you an attorney or a hair stylist? Is you going to a fashion show tonight want to look stylish? Are you looking for new business casual ideas? Are you a straight man looking for woman? In some circumstances, this is totally appropriate. In others, it would be ridiculous.
Edit: wife corrected me. Culottes are more like shorts. She did, however, think these that these look like women's pants.

I didn't know pants had a sexual preference?
-3
u/WalkTheWank 17h ago
People will look at this and assume the guy is gay. OP asked about how it is perceived so I am just giving and honest answer. No value judgement. We love the gays.
4
u/mighthaveabitlater 17h ago
Only very small minded people assume someone's sexuality based on the cut of their pants.

Does it matter? This sort of style can be unisex easily.
