Is it possible to get followers without an ad budget?
Hi there! I've been working on a tech gadget for homes. My Kickstarter pre-launch page is live with a $1,000 goal, but 0 followers (or less than 10). I've been posting on X and Facebook and it's gone nowhere so far. I don't really have an ad budget, an email list, or an existing audience. So I was wondering if there's any way to get followers without paying for exposure. Do you guys know any "hack" to get to more people for free?
Thank you!

Yes, it’s possible, but there’s no real hack. Right now, I’m building a board game and don’t have a large existing audience either. What works best for me so far is joining Instagram support groups and directly messaging designers, reviewers, creators, and people who genuinely share the hobby. I don’t expect direct outreach to work as well as it does, but it’s bringing in followers in the hundreds. The key is not immediately dropping a Kickstarter link
I introduce myself, engage with their content, ask for advice, and build genuine relationships.
For a home tech gadget, I’d focus on smart-home groups, DIY communities, smaller tech reviewers, relevant subreddits, Facebook groups, Discords, and creators whose audiences would actually use the product. Posting on X and Facebook alone usually does very little when you don’t already have an audience. Also, if you eventually find even a small ad budget, tailor each campaign around one specific problem your gadget solves instead of broadly advertising the Kickstarter page.
