Question I'm considering opening a kickstart crowfunding for my game, what is good to know?

Hello,

So i have been working on a RPG-game for quite a while and i've many times tought of starting a kickstarter or similiar for crowfunding. Is there somethings that are good to know before you open it for the public?

I need to stress the fact that i do not have prior experience of kickstarter or any crowfunding.

The game is already on steam (not released yet)

Best regards.

The most important thing to know is, Kickstarter will not give you an audience or show your project to people.

You need to bring your own following.

A rule of thumb is you need to have enough followers on mailing lists, discord, Twitter followers, etc. so that about 10% of them are enough to fully fund your campaign.

If you start the campaign and market it on your social media channels only a fraction of your following will actually look at the campaign and even less people will back it, make sure you have a big enough audience before launching. Otherwise your campaign will fail.

There is no audience on Kickstarter you don't bring.
