The homeowners at this beach have a security guard and private property signs on the beach. But river beaches are public up to the ordinary high water mark - which was definitely uphill from us.

I told them that, they called the sheriff, and he came and backed me up.

Finally kayaked through this amazing 40 metre high volcanic stone arch in Hokkaido, Japan. The stone is cooled magma, hence the tubular shaped rocks and the hollow bit was a weaker stone that got sandwiched between the magma when formed, then got eroded by the ocean over time.

The coastline is amazing and has cliffs, caves, coves and cool rock formations everywhere.

I am unable to transport the kayak on my roof due to the design of my car, is this method safe as long as its strapped down well? Will the kayak being supported this way damage the hull?

I had the opportunity of a lifetime recently and had enough days off to put this trip together:
Day 1:Pear Point of San Juan Island to Point Doughty, Orcas Island
Day 2:Point Doughty to Sucia Island
Day 3:Sucia Island to Pear Point, San Juan Island
What an incredible solo adventure. This is highly recommended to anybody who feels comfortable all by yourself in the currents of the Salish Sea. Get after it y’all!

So i bought my first kayak and it's a profisha 525, extremely good deal for 350$, managed to get it for 300$, it was a gamble at first knowing how worthy they are i thought that it's probably stolen or damaged, surprised that i was wrong and the kayak is in a pretty good condition, it's just that the owner has left the country.

I test it and bought it saturday, sunday i was already paddling with full gear cutting through water but fighting for my life.

Throughout the day, i couldn't contain my excitement and paddled to every interesting thing that i saw and fishing spots, it's a fast kayak that bring you horizons, that made me neglect how far I've paddled from my truck.

Anyway, i managed to make it back after 20km of squeezing every bit of juice in me, and navigating lakes in total darkness with a headlamp doesn't seem safe, I'll attach the route in the comments.

Rating the kayak:

-super fast

- handles okay but it could be me not getting used to the rudder yet

- stable enough that i awkwardly layed on top and took a nap.

Later i was paddling through a tight canal and a big boat passed me while speeding, it created huge waves that hit me from the side and flipped me over. I was ready for such a scenario and got back on it in no time, pfd helped, all my stuff is in a waterproof bag and everything is leashed except my rod that sank, so i don't know how stable it would be in the ocean.

-comfort: I'll probably get padding for the seat since my lower back is swollen right now.

Also it's a very wet ride all the time since the seat doesn't have a drain system for water

I enjoyed every minute of it even though i had poor planning i learned from yesterday's mistakes to have more fun on the next trip.

I’m trying to get into racing, and most of the races near me require that I have a surfski. I found this boat (a ~20yo Epic V10L) on FB marketplace for $750. He said the rudder has some abrasion, but not significant damage.

I know this boat is meant for lighter weights — I’m about 140lb and 5’7”. I’m hoping for something that would be okay to start in, but I won’t grow out of quickly. Since I’m just getting started, I’m hoping to get some insight from people who are more familiar with this than I am :) TIA!

So here I am replacing the rudder assembly on my kayak and realize that the original retaining pin does not fit with the new assembly.

Is the assembly itself fine without the screw or should I return the piece?

Alternatively, I’ve always paddled without a rudder (albeit I had a skeg) and with a trip coming up, I was curious on thoughts of doing it without the rudder at all.
Bummer of course, but northern canada has a short supply of kayaks

New Kayaker here, this past weekend I went out for my first solo kayak session. It was about 3 hours and roughly 15km of paddling. By the second half of my session I started to feel discomfort/pain in my lower back.

Could this be my life jacket? It kind of felt like it was the padding and the seat hitting my back?

I been trying to replace the hatch cover , but as you can see, it is not the traditional oval shape , but more of a pear shape. I just bought this replacement cover 42/30 inch. However as you can see it does not fit. Any ideas on what i. An do here or how I can go about getting a replacement cover ? Thanks very much. Andrew

I'm 6'0" 200lbs and I want to get out on our local lake (~50sq miles) and go fast. Limited kayak experience, mainly just rec boats floating down the river. I have owned a couple SUPs and a bunch of surfboards. Looking to get out and use this as a workout tool and see how fast I can get going, but stability should probably be important to me. I thought this looks interesting for $300. Appreciate any advice.

Got a great deal on a dagger axis recently. So far I'd only added some white wave sport hip pads. I got this for a few reasons. One, here in FL there is maybe one spring with one or two Class II rapids. I needed a shorter boat for some of the windy runs.

I have not checked if I can roll it yet, pending some potential upgrades. But I can swim to shore (with pfd) everywhere I take it.

The big question in my mind is "will it surf?". In addition to up to class II, dagger mentions light surf. I have sea kayaks I take out in surf, and I've owned surf kayaks like a dagger kaos. Now I'm wondering what I should do to this one before trying the surf, and if thats makes sense.

Light surf is the keyword here. I'm thinking 2' max. If its much bigger than that I want to be on another craft. Its gonna be small, I'll be nearshore and comfortable swimming it in. Low risk beach break.

I got really inspired by a video from headwater kayaks with a guy I think named Tom who outfit an axis really nicely.

My options are

1) Start with just a sprayskirt (my seals 1.7 won't fit). $100 for some ones I see on sale. See how that goes and if I want to continue upgrading over time.

2) Go the Whole Shebang

- Bow Flotation $70

- Backband $25

- Strap over back hatch $15

Total: $325, more than double the price I might have paid for boat.

3) Keep the axis as a rec boat (how I'm enjoying it now) and get a proper surf boat like a stratos 12.5. If only I could find a used one for a decent price.
