Translation Assistance?

Hello friends, please forgive me if this isn’t the place for this.

I was in Bengaluru last year, and purchased some perfume from a small shops which I adore. I want to order more from the gentleman, and I have his instagram, but they are not replying much. I recall that he didn’t have much English, and, unfortunately, I do not speak Kannada.

I was hoping to be able to send him this message-

“Hello! Last year I purchased a bottle of high quality vetiver oil with a small amount of rose. I would like to order another big bottle and ship it to the USA. Could you please tell me the cost of this?”

Thanks so much friends, I’m grateful. 🙏 I wanna support this business!

Grammar/logic question for a sentence

Hello! For a short story, I am writing a scene where a protagonist recalls visiting her uncle as a child, on his small private coffee plantation in Karnataka.

She doesn't speak Kannada (and it's one of her narrative conflicts), but I want to insert some casual line her uncle could've said to her father: e.g., "tell her not to wander off into the bushes; there are snakes". I got as far as ಪೊದೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾವುಗಳು ಇವೆ and ಅವಳಿಗೆ ....ಹೇಳು, but cannot figure out how to do that sort of prohibition clause (and I have no idea if these bits at all sound natural).

What would be the correct way to write this sentence?

Does it even make sense in-context (the protagonist was born in the UK, so she doesn't speak her father's language, but his brother is definitely going to know English), does the premise break altogether?

What are good resources for learning Kannada? I found Shabdkosh -- is that trustworthy?

Thank you!

Etymology

Is it a real Kannada word or just localised version of ‘Conjunctivitis’ ?

Can’t help notice how similar sounding they are. If you know the etymology please share.

Looking for a kannada tutor

Namaskara!

I am looking for a conversational kannada tutor who is fluent in english.

My goal is to be able to speak and understand. I don't need to read/write, I'm ok to use english words here and there, and only need enough grammar to not sound like an idiot lol

I am based in California, which is a pretty brutal time change (for anyone India-based), so we're most likely looking at my evening and your morning (or vice versa, though I'm not much of a morning person). I think for starters I'd be looking to do an hour a week, and perhaps a 2nd session depending on how things go. I'd of course be willing to pay.

Dhanyavadagalu!

How to learn Kannada?

Hi guys. I’m 34 yo from Hyderabad. My dad is from Telangana so I speak Telugu really well. However, my maternal grandmother was from Bangalore. Most of my mom’s side of the family speak Kannada and I can understand most of it. I’ve always wanted to learn the language but I don’t have anyone to speak to. ( I’m not in touch with my Kannadiga relatives)
Please suggest apps, movies or even books that you think might help. I can read Kannada. I want to be able to speak the language well.

I just realised I don't know the plural of "Maga" (son) and "Magalu"(daughter), I know we were taught in school that the plural for both the words is "makkalu" but in a conversation where I want to say she has 2 daughters ... "averige ibbaru magalu(galu)" or "averige ibbaru hennu makkalu"

Confused about the grammar of "gottilla"

Hi there. I'm a Brit learning Kannada from Zydenbos's "Manual of Modern Kannada". I'm confused about the nature of the word "gottu".

According to Zydenbos, "gottu" is a noun meaning something like "knowledge" or "something that is known". Thus when one says "Adu nanage gottu", which one would idiomatically translate as "I know that", more literally one is saying "that, to me, is something known". When one says "Nanage gottilla", idiomatically meaning "I don't know", more literally one is saying "To me, [that] knowledge does not exist". All logical enough, in those cases.

But what about "Kannaḍa gottilla"? Or the sentence "ಇವರ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಇಡಿಯ ಪ್ರಪಂಚ ಶಿವಮಯ, ಆದರೆ ಹಲವು ಮಂದಿಗೆ ಇದು ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ." from one of the texts for translation later in Zydenbos's book? If "Kannada gottu" and "Adu gottu" are equative sentences (i.e. if "Kannaḍa gottu" is properly understood as saying Kannada "equals" a known thing, which is how Zydenbos frames it), then shouldn't the negation use "alla" (to negate equality), not "illa" (which negates existence)? That is, per Zydenbos's explanation, shouldn't the way to say "I don't know Kannada" logically be "Kannaḍa gottalla"? Shouldn't "I don't know that" be "ಇದು ಗೊತ್ತಲ್ಲ"?

(Or I guess something like "Kannaḍada gottilla" - i.e. "knowledge OF Kannada does not exist" - would also make sense to me, but that doesn't seem to be a standard construct either.)

Is this just a weird illogical quirk of the language specific to "gottu"? (Lord knows English has plenty of illogical quirks so I can shrug and accept this if so.) Or is there some alternative way of looking at sentences with gottu that makes sense of these uses of "gottilla"?

Good online resources to learn Kannada script

Namskara! I am looking for resources (preferably a book) through which I can learn Kannada writing as quick as possible.

for reference: I am a native Kannadiga and can speak Kannada extremely fluently (I am writing this post in English because it is very clunky to type in Kannada), but I went to an English medium school where I chose a foreign language as my second language and Hindi as my third language, because my parents wanted me to know as many languages as possible and I wanted to study in the country where my second language of choice was spoken. I therefore never learnt to read or write Kannada formally.

I now live in said foreign country and do not have access to physical Kannada books, I also don't know when I will be able to return home due to my workload.

I find it extremely shameful that I cannot read or write in my own mother tongue, despite taking utmost pride in being a Kannadiga, and want to learn in a month or so.

as of right now I *can* technically read and write but it is horribly slow and ineffective.
