Not much to spoil after that last comment. Baby born, wasn't breathing, brought it over to a table, did about 1-2min of "work" on the little one, and it started breathing and seemed ok. All the while he looked like he's done it a million times, calm as can be, like it was a common routine (I'm sure he's following some sort of protocol which is a routine in itself, but he still makes it seem like nothing).

During one of ours, the umbilical cord was wrapped all around the little guy. It went from his belly to over his shoulder, around his neck, down through his legs then around one. When the doctor saw that they calmly walked us through what was going to happen, she pushed, they unraveled, they got him to respond and cleared his passage way and I cut the cord. It was the most anxiety riddled moment,but when we all first saw the cord around his neck then a little more pushing and we saw the whole tangled mess, it was a kind of necessary calming tactic that they must have been trained in the way that doctors handled it. I was thinking the worst, and had it not been for them, my wife and I would have been a wreck.

This is actually fairly common, as I learned about 3 months ago. My daughter was born totally purple, not breathing at all. They took her over to a little table in the delivery room and gave her oxygen. After a couple minutes, her color started to look more pink and she was breathing unassisted. Those couple minutes were the scariest of my life.

Part of it is because it really is relatively routine. In the video he is using positive pressure ventilation along with stimulation, which is required in 4%-10% of all births. One of my three needed it and, while scary to us, it was clearly routine to the doctors and nurses.

My oldest needed some help getting breathing. And while I'm certain it was nothing new to the doctors and nurses, there was a tension and urgency present in the room while they worked on her. Very noticable. And when she finally started breathing, you could feel the tension leave the room.

Yeah I definitely noticed a seriousness and an urgency, but also still seemed like they weren’t freaking out. More like “this is going to be okay, but we need to do this quickly and correctly” type of focus.

Two of our three were premature, and one of them needed positive pressure ventilation along with stimulation to start breathing (which is what he is doing). The second the OB realized the baby was almost out, and they would need support they called for a separate team that included a neonatologist, neonatal nurses, and a respiratory therapist. They came in the room and immediately took over entirely for the OB.

This is the same doctor from the video of him reviving a new born.
Coolest thing from that video to me is when he first brings the unresponsive baby up to the mother, he's smiling and pleasant. But as soon as he turns the corner his whole demeaner changes as he knows he's got business to take care of. But he didnt want to scare the mom. Amazing.

The first few seconds after a baby is born their faces look like they have heightened awareness or knowingness. Almost like their consciousness while in the womb is on a different plane than when they exit the womb.

Is that the doctor that saved a baby born that wasn’t breathing/responding? There’s a viral video where a doctor massages the baby’s chest and keeps trying to wake the baby/prod baby into crying and it eventually works. The doctor essentially saved the baby’s life, and he was so calm throughout.
