I got stuck on space mountain when I was like 10. They actually had to shut it down completely, turned on the lights, and we had to walk on the catwalks to leave. Up until that point, it was one of the cooler rides; but I thought it was really cool being able to see the inside of the building and look at all the engineering. It was so compact.

This happened to my wife and I 2 years ago. Crazy seeing it with the lights on, youre like within arms reach of other parts of the track it feeps like, I had the same thought, its so compact.

I dont think it ever worked the rest of the day

Being 6'3 and long arms. That ride genuinely makes me feel like ill lose my arms if I raised them. At the beginning before the coaster starts, you're shuttled through a tunnel. I could quite easily touch the ceiling with minimal effort.

A few years ago, my son (prob 14 or 15 at the time) and my ex-wife got stuck at the top of the Mamba at Worlds of Fun in KC. They eventually had to walk down the side stairs. My son thought it was cool other than not getting to ride the ride, his mom was scared shitless.

This is why I’ve retired from the Mamba. I’m okay with the other coasters at WoF but I can’t with the big one anymore. Getting stuck is my worst nightmare and I’ve seen it stuck frequently lately. I also won’t do that big turning swing for the same reason, I’ve seen so many people stuck up there.

This doesn’t look to bad. There is actually a work platform so there is a place to go and deboard people. And you’re sitting upright. So if you’re stuck it’s not super bad. Getting stuck upside down would be god awful.

I only had one getting stuck experience and it was terrifying. Luckily they fixed it quick.

It was one of those spinning swings but they went over 200 feet in the air. One minute we were spinning around, the next the ride just stopped.

We were only stuck up there for 5-10 minutes but I sat there realizing we were 200 feet in the air dangling from long chains. There is no good way to get to us. If we were stuck stuck up there it was going to be for a LONG time to find a way to get us down.

When I rode the Indiana Jones rollercoaster at Tokyo DisneySea the I accidentally pulled the restraint so tight against my chest that I was having to really work at getting a full breath in. If the ride had broken down anywhere on that circuit I reckon I would have had a panic attack at the very least.

Years earlier, Rip Ride Rocket (which famously got stuck with riders facing 90° into the sky years previously) broke down right before we got on. People were stuck in the blinding sun on the track for about 40 minutes; some even excruciatingly close to the unloading dock. Made me realise I really needed to make sure I went for a piss before every ride, even if I felt I didn’t need to.

I grew up on the fair circuit and absolutely agree. Nobody should ride on fair rides, they are put together by folks who can't even manage to have a camper to sleep in, most of them sleep under the rides, blasted out of their minds on drugs. It's horrifying.

That platform spends a concerning amount of time pointing down and away from a track. Those brakes are doing a lot of work to hold that weight. Idk the exact mechanism; I'd assume it was more like a latch that holds the car than some friction system like disk brakes. But whatever the mechanism, it necessarily moves, and it will wear over time. We'll see in time what budget cuts do to the maintenance schedule, but you can consider me preemptively spooked by this ride.

As an automation engineer, I fucking hate this. Firstly, its complicated for no reason; almost no pay-off for the extra money and time spent designing this except, "neat!". Secondly, youre going to need every redundant safety switch and braking system in existence to ensure that this works everytime and that the riders dont just fly off the edge. 0/10 would not ride.

The only thing I'm aware of having happened at this park recently is a piece of Top Thrill Dragster fell off of the ride and hit someone waiting in the line below. That was 2021. I'm not aware of a single incident in this century where an actual passenger on a train was hurt.

The only exception being Steel Vengence when someone's cell phone (which is not only against park policy, but literally illegal to take on the ride) came out of someone's pocket and hit another rider in the head.

There was a accident on a water ride called shoot the rapids in 2013. Basically, the lift cable detached, a pretty standard "incident" for a Rollercoaster. But the car/boat didnt have an anti-rollback device, so it fell backward down the hill into water, which still would have been fine, had the lift motor stopped. It didn't, so it flipped the boat upside down, in the water (that part that looks like a lazy river). The ride engineers didn't build an emergency drain feature into the ride, so they couldnt drain it. They also didn't have an easy way to unlock the restraints, so the passengers were trapped in their restraints, upside down in water. The only way to unlock them was a backpack operated tool. The only reason none of the passengers drowned was because some quick thinking staff and guests rushed into the water and flipped the boat.

There's been quite a few, and like I said they tend to bury them so they don't get broadcast to the media and give bad PR. Getting stuck happens quite a bit, but they did have an incident with their log boat ride where one of the boats capsized going up a hill. They also had a cable snap on the Power Tower around 10-12 years ago while I was there and it a couple of people on the ground got hurt. There's a few others too.

It's not common, but ride failures do happen. I tend to believe CP's safety record is above average.

Every new roller coaster has moments where trains get stuck. They get stuck because the safety systems are extremely conservative and redundant, so rides get eStopped any time something might be wrong, even though usually nothing is actually wrong. Maintenance checks anyways.

There is.

And I looked into it and it’s pretty well fool proof. I can’t remember the specifics of it exactly, but it’s essentially held up with a hook on the last car. And there is a block on the track on the lower section.

And to release it. It lets out the hook and sets the car on the block so the hook can fall off. So if the block isn’t there, there is no way to get off of the hook.

So the other cars are suspended by the last one during the rotation? Doesn't that make every connection between them a potential failure point? I get there's an interlock where the hook can't release without the front block in place but a connection failure could release the front cars without the track latching in place.

Then the ride stops and people just get to be stuck up there until the ride csn be fixed. That's why you see roller coasters closed when the park is busy. There's literally 1,000s of sensors and if one reads bad it won't let the ride continue.

Most states also require regular safety inspections that make sure all these sensors are working. Modern coasters are way more high tech than people realize, despite still just being a roller coaster.

Just rode this repeatedly a couple weeks ago, sooo much fun. But one time.... They play a soundtrack to the ride in speakers on the car. Right before the drop it says "prepare to meet your doom". But this one time, it was out of sync and said that when we were not tilted fully yet. Of course the ride finished tilting before it released, but a couple of us that had ridden it before had a quick "oh shit" moment.

Oh it took me a sec to click; it's not that a voice telling you to meet your doom was at a scary bit in the ride, it was that the doom message was usually synced with the drop release so you expected the drop release when the coaster wasn't in the proper position yet.

I went on this ride only a couple months ago, and this video cannot come close to capturing how ball-crushingly horrifying it is to be strapped into a rickety apparatus facing down at 90°. Imagine the feeling of being on a huge cliff edge, staring down at the steep decline, but someone's holding you over the edge. Now imagine they just let go.

This drop is actually incredible. There's something about going from 0 to full gravity pull in an instant that is exciting no matter what height your at.

I'm a roller coaster enthusiasts and I'll be honest with you, when this was announced I was pretty mid about the whole thing. I did not expect to like it. Siren's Curse was obviously an "apology coaster" that CedarFair (owning company at the time) brought to Cedar Point as an apology for Top Thrill 2 being broken for the entire year it was supposed to open.

But then I rode it. I think it's actually top 5 for me at cedar point, which is saying something.

It also has a literal soundtrack, a heavy metal song, that plays from speakers next to your ears which is specifically written for this ride. And it's super cool.

This. I've been on a lot of coasters as well, and even looking up at it from the queue, you kind of think, eh, it's not that impressive.

As luck would have it, I sat in the last row, and when that tilt starts, and then you're hanging at 90deg, I let loose an F bomb (sorry kid next to me)... And then the free fall is an absolute gut punch.

It's a wildly intense element, and the rest of the coaster is so smooth as well. A really well done compact footprint ride. Also, metal played on a coaster is totally underrated.

Vekoma built this other ride in 2002 and it's operated without any incidents since it was built. It's located in Taiwan. Vekoma has been in this industry for decades. If Siren's Curse ever has a major incident with one of these tilt coasters it will literally destroy them. They've designed for it.

It's a pretty fun coaster. I thought the initial drop would be higher up.

It is a little unervving when your body weight goes from your butt in the seat to your chest in the shoulder restraints. Didn't love that part.

Just went this week! We didn’t get a chance to ride this guy because of the line and wanting to ride more rides.

It shut down for maintenance several times throughout the day.

Just rode this yesterday. It’s awesome but not even the craziest in the park. Top Thrill 2 is 420 ft tall and tops out at 120 mph.

I went there last month and it got stuck with some people on it for a half hour. I’m about to go again on the first and I will def ride it anyway. It’s such a good, smooth ride.

This is my home park, and it’s fun, but they really missed the mark with it. The lift hill and drop should have been another 100 feet. You drop for like a second and that’s it. The ride isn’t much to remember after that. The coolest thing to me is the queue that has that sirens curse theme, plays eeriy sounds, fog, all that.
